first the snow, couple of inches in many towns, and now a blast of cold, ready to turn it all to ice. >> the new snow tonight, dangerous for drivers. cars were sliding all over the place. >> we have a live look at roads right now. trucks are out sanding and salting as we speak, trying to make sure the morning commute isn't too messy. we're in a bit of an intermission. flakes will start to fly again in about an hour. >> eric fisher is tracking it all for us. what can we expect? one more area of snow showers moving from the west through the berk shires. this is the cold front moving through. not going to last long, but we'll get one more coating of snow moving across the state, vermont, new hampshire as well, then we all clear out after that. snow totals up to this point, pep recall at 3.3 inches of snow. foxborough at 2 1/2. thank you to everybody who sent in reports all evening long. very helpful. the story also becomes the cold for tomorrow morning.

orange at 22 degrees. this clipper is going to move through. with that cold front, sharply colder air by tomorrow morning. all the snow, the slush that came down earlier, all freezing up pretty hard. we're looking at upper teens to low 20s out the door for tomorrow. not just the cold, but the wind starts to ramp up behind this front. late tonight into tomorrow morning, wind advisories are posted and gusts will be out of the west at 30 to 45 miles per hour. so feels-like temps to start our day, teens and single digits. cold stuff out there. we're watching another storm for the weekend. we've got details on that. >> lot to watch, eric. thank you. the first part of the storm made it a slower, slippery drive home tonight. as we just heard, the snow is sticking around, going to accumulate a little more. kate meryl is live for us tonight in worcester. >> reporter: lisa, from 5:00 to 8:00, it was snowing very hard in worcester, as people were trying to get home. couple inches on this truck from just those few hours. the snow has thankfully stopped right now.

they are finally clear of that snow. but tonight's commute home was a nightmare. slipping and sliding into our first real snowfall of the season. in worcester, this is no treat for drivers. >> it's scary, too, because you saw him, went right into the cars. >> reporter: ashley carpenter tried to make her way up and had to give up, turn around. >> the main roads are wet, but the side roads, no good. >> reporter: anyone hitting the hills faced a battle. the snow falling so fast, hard to treat in time for the evening commute home. >> it's really unsafe. it's not a joke. you can't even walk up it. >> reporter: salt trucks were loading up, moving out, but too many cars, too much snow made for a treacherous traffic mess. >> it's not good either. it's not good. as you can notice, it's not. you can't even clean it up.

as it is daylight in the persian gulf. the two small boats were en route from beirut to bahrain. they drifted into iranian waters after mechanical difficulties. secretary of state kerry has been assured the sailors will be allowed to continue their journey. it would seem a harmless incident, except that two weeks ago, iranian revolutionary guard ships fired off rockets within a mile of the american aircraft carrier truman. the rockets fired live munitions in crowding shipping lanes, drawing strong protest from the u.s. a top u.s. official says there is nothing to indicate this was hostile on iran's part, adding the sailors lisa and david? >> thank you. president obama just wrapped up his final state of

the shortest of all of president obama's state of the union addresses. now at 11:00, a deadly accident in ross lan dale. washington street. emergency crews rushed her to make it. the driver stopped and is not facing charges. police are also investigating a crash that injured a pedestrian and the driver near beacon street in truemont place. the driver apparently hit the pedestrian and a number of cars. injuries there. and a boston firefighter is recovering tonight after getting hurt putting out a fire. the fire broke out at the back of a two-family home on cummings highway. the firefighter suffered minor injuries. seven people on this cold night, though, are out of their home. investigators are now searching for the cause of that fire. now at 11:00, we are learning patriots player chandler jones was taken to the hospital after a medical emergency over the weekend. >> of course this news comes as the patriots get ready for this

steve burton is in the studio with more. >> reporter: wbz has learned that the patriots has confirmed that chandler jones was hospitalized on sunday and released that same day. now, details have not been confirmed why jones was in the hospital or what he was even treated for. this video is chandler jones on the practice field with the team yesterday. patriots say he reported to work on time yesterday and has participated in all meetings and practices since then. jones did miss the last game against miami with a toe injury, but has taken part in then. meanwhile, bill belichick was sporting a black eye under his it's unclear how it happened, but he said he will live. tom brady seemed to be jogging okay at practice, as he continues to deal with that sprained right ankle. they said everyone is aware of what's at stake on saturday night. >> i think the ramifications for a loss are a lot different. you really don't have next week

pretty hard to get to this our best week. playing. >> reporter: got that right. stick around for sports. brady talks about why he is not guys? >> steve, thank you. now to a wbz exclusive. a brown university student attacked on the streets of providence and left on life support. tonight, he is talking for the first time about his road to recovery with our jim armstrong. >> reporter: it may not look like much, watching joe sharky shoot hoops in his driveway, but for a guy who had to relearn how to walk and how to talk and how to chew his food just a couple of years ago, this is sort of amazing. >> it's a slow process, but over time, i've just had patience with myself. >> reporter: on mother's day 2013, the brown university basketball player was with some friends just off campus when they spotted a fight down the street. without warning and though joe was not involved, someone sucker punched him in the back of the head, sending him crashing to the sidewalk, putting him in a coma.

that's like and you go through a period of mourning because you lose -- you feel like you've lost who he was. and he's, he's back. i mean, he's joe. >> reporter: but first, months of therapy. the ivy league athlete had to relearn addition and subtraction. >> it was bizarre because i knew it was very easy, but at the same time, it was so frustrating because i knew that and i couldn't do it. >> reporter: and he made a tough call not to play again for the brown basketball team. >> for the past three years, it's been a million-pound weight on my shoulders, just trying to come back. it was always something that was a huge part of my life. >> reporter: but he is back at school, ready to graduate in may, only a year late. as for his attacker? >> at first i had wanted an eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth kind of thing. >> reporter: but something changed during the trial this summer. in court day after day, the family realized prison wouldn't solve anything, so they came up with a better punishment. 1000 hours of community

those. dick in south berwick, 3 inches of snowfall. cambridge, quarter of an inch. belmont, new hampshire, inch and a half. not enough to make a snowman eric sent this picture in. 2 inches of snow scooping up across the yard. wet snowfall and the kids finally getting to make the first snowman of the season. remember our first storm, mostly sleet. not good for the snowballs or snowmen. taking a look at this picture from lowell, via twitter, looks like an atmosphere of winter sneeze. a burst of snow came down and covered up. pretty picture. a little weird on the south coast tonight, from south dartmouth, a little bit of hail and thunderstorms that formed along the south coast and toward martha's vineyard this evening. odd weather all around. most of the initial snow is all gone. thunder snow in portland, maine. now we're watching this area moving east out of the berkshires, most of that line

a little bit of additional snow is possible. then the cold front moves through. these temperatures are chilly right now, much colder air behind that cold front. this is going to be ushered in by the time we wake up tomorrow morning. expecting temps in the upper teens to low 20s out the door. if you haven't done it yet, maybe sweep the snow off the sidewalk or car. it's going to freeze up pretty solid by tomorrow morning. i don't think there will be any delays. we're looking at dry conditions, windy, cold at the bus stop and temperatures staying stuck in the 20s heading through the day. definitely want the winter gear. behind that cold front, we have stronger winds. that's why wind advisories are posted across massachusetts, rhode island and connecticut. gusts out of the west will be 30 to 45 miles per hour late tonight, tomorrow morning and through much of the day tomorrow. so you can notice as soon as the front sweeps through, winds pick up, howling out there for tomorrow morning, adding extra bite to the air. it will stay with us through the afternoon, slowly subsiding heading into tomorrow night. so a very midwinter morning out there tomorrow. cold temps, snow on the ground, but quite beautiful.

we've woken up, looked outside and said a nice winter coating with the fresh snow. strong winds at midday lunch. then we're drying out as we head toward the evening, wind calming down. blustery in the low 20s. high temps tomorrow, ranging from 23 in worcester, 32 on nantucket. toward the end of the week, winds start to die down. still a chilly thursday, but mainly dry day. friday, a little more moderation and then we'll watch our next potential storm approaching for friday night and saturday. the usual questions this far out, where exactly is this going to track? if it sneaks farther east, we get a glancing below. there's not a lot of cold air involved. i do think anywhere near the coastline in southeast mass, this will be a rain event. inland, coming close enough, a chance for snow. we'll have much more on that and a quieter weather night tomorrow. accuweather seven-day, when your warmest day is 40, you know winter has taken control of our weather. we're watching the saturday storm. interesting for the patriots. >> i think we should scrape the

standouts was hospitalized on sunday and released the same day. details have not been confirmed on why he was in the hospital or what he was treated for. but the good news, he has been back at practice and he is okay. head coach bill belichick showed up to his press conference this morning sporting a shiner over his left eye. we don't know how he got it, but he did say he'll live. wonder what the other guy looks like. just kidding. belichick had his troops on the practice field today for the second full day in pads. rob gronkowski didn't participate, but the team report. julian edelman was out there. tom brady was also out there, seemed to be moving okay on the bulky right ankle. we know he's an intense competitor on the football field, but what's he like with teammates this time of year? of it year round.

i think there's a lot of high expectations. and i try to put a lot of pressure on everybody to get the best out of us and, yeah. >> yeah. meanwhile, the chiefs were back on the practice field today, but wide receiver jeremy maclin did not participate because of a sprained ankle. quarterback alex smith could use him on saturday, no question about that. smith certainly doesn't have the type of reputation tom brady has around the nfl, but he's steady and helped the team win 11 straight games. however, he's still in awe of q b12's accomplishments. >> yeah, he's who everybody's chasing. to be doing it as long as he has is, you know, it's remarkable. it's tough to put into words. all right. all-access friday night. as for saturday, wbz has you covered from start to finish, beginning with a 90-minute edition of patriots game day at 2:00. kickoff is at 4:35, immediately followed by the fifth quarter post game show.

facing the knicks in new york. rookie sensation showing off his range, nailing the long three in the first. porzingis, team-high 26 points. knicks led by 10 at the break, but thomas puts the celtics on his back, in the third quarter, scoring 16 points, including this layup off the steal. celtics go up by three in the fourth when sallinger drives and nails the banker and the foul, putting the c's up 102- 99. but the knicks keep coming. now up one, evan turner misses a three. knicks with the board and quick outlook to derrick williams for the emphatic finish. there you go. they go on to win 121-114. thomas finished with a game- high 34 points.
