spring thought coldest weeks of the year. so here is the first flower believe to have been grown in space. so astronauts scott kelly tweeted this out earlier today. after a few trials and tribulation got to grow in the international space station they have grown things like lettuce up there before. but this is believed tonight first flower. so they are experimenting on how to grow things like this in micrographickities and real life matt damon martian going on there. it's not potatoes but looks nicer. let's talk about the snow that fell earlier this morning. we got our inch in boston. in fact 3.1 inch at logan airport. it was the third longest wait for a 1 inch snow convenient on record and see the first place back in 20 07 remember we waited until valentine's day. that was sleet storm for much of the area too. you might be thinking okay, i heard this script somewhere before. why does this sound familiar? if we look at the last couple januarys to date, we had 2.6 inches of snow last january 3.4

boston and we are at 4.3 we know things end differently and hundred inches this winter but this week. in the near term all about the cold and the wind. strong gusts out across the region tonight and this wind is going to stay with us through tonight and through tomorrow and even into tomorrow evening service posted wind advisories out of the west northwest at 20 to 30 miles per hour and the gusts 40 to 50 miles per hour long duration this is going to go into tomorrow evening. and delivering plenty of cold teens and 20s right now single digits and teens off to the west arctic front moved through this evening and couple snow showers in the berkshires where most will be staying tonight and snowflakes falling in western massachusetts. so it's just a frigid and windy january night real feel temperatures zero to 10 below air temps close to 12 for most towns on the average and a few single digits when you combine the temperature and the winds your wind chill values will go

and about zero to 10 below. so obviously going outside it's lots of layers and covering up exposed skin and making sure too long. heading into tomorrow afternoon single digit wind chills the coldest day of the week. in the morning that frigid wind temperatures single digits and teens and feeling subzero at midday it's a blustery and bright just very cold that ineffective late january sunshine as we head towards the evening windy chilly andsit seat 4:41 and that's -- and sunset at 4:41. and that's rock bottom. storm system slides through wednesday night and doesn't look to bring significant towards next is the weekend. what we are looking at is a very powerful storm tis em-- east coast. right now high confidence area is the mid atlantic. this looks to be a slam dunk as you can get four days out for a major snowstorm in that area. southern new england. will it move farther west and maybe bring in milder air will

us out of the brunt of the storm this highlights the high could have dense storm roanoke to dc and baltimore and philly and new york sit they. that. i do still think we are looking at a chance for significant snow it's going to take a the details. the other thing to watch we have got onshore winds and a full moon on saturday so the potential for coastal flood something higher with the storm. so here's the accu-weather 7- day forecast and a cold dry saturday morning. that's the timeline and important to note david and lisa a slow moving storm most of saturday and sunday. >> that's why we don't know exactly what's going to happen at this point. >> five days out you-- there's no way to draw the lines. wait and see for now. >> thanks. >> thanks. big name celebrities are boycotting the oscars for the second year in a row. most of the nominees are white. stars like spike lee and jadda pinkett smith sounded off and lee says he won't support the

wbz news at 6 starts right now. a snowy start to the week and this could be an early taste of what we might see next weekend. now it's very early but we are tracking the chance of a significant snowstorm over the weekend. >> until then we will be enduring a very cold week. eric fisher is tracking for us the appetizer possibly to an all you can eat buffet. >> all you can eat buffet as fun as lobster and shrimp but we are talking about cold and we felt the front move through this afternoon. in the near term it's about the wind and cold. wind advisories are out across the region. the weather service in new hampshire didn't issue one but winds region wide gusts 40 to 50 miles an hour out of the west northwest feeling like 8 wind chill of 1 in worcester. it's deep winter cold settled in and the front offshore few snow showers towards the berkshires and most of us will be dry and wendy with wind chilled values zero to 10 below. so be layered up heading out -- if row are heading out and
