layers, the hat, the gloves, the whole deal. >> all of it. we have a wind advisory in effect until 7:00 p.m. wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour. that is strong enough to cause isolated pockets of power outages and damage as well. near 40 miles per hour from province town back down to the cape. the wind gusts will get stronger. 2 below zero. the real feel at logan airport right now, 9 below. temperatures are actually in the teens, but you have to consider the wind and that wind will be strong from start to finish. the skies are clear. we will see clouds mixing in with the temperatures in the 20s. blustery, 20 degrees as we head into the ride home. i will let you know when the wind lets up a little bit. let's get you on the roads.

i want to get you to video from overnight because they started to prepare ahead of the storm. they started running the trains to make sure everything was all set to go. that was to get ahead of any potential problems. i can tell you according to the transportation secretary, track breakage is known in these cold snaps and all they can do is try to stay ahead of the issues. >> i want people to understand that being prepared for winter does not mean there will be no issues whatsoever. >> reporter: and this is another test for the t today. of course, we had another cold day a few weeks ago, but certainly, the last thing these people on the tracks want to do is to stand in all of the chill waiting for a delayed train, or a train that never shows up.

time in the afternoon, the windchill is still going to be running in the single digits. we are going nowhere here, the wind is still going to be strong out of the northwest and when we wake up tomorrow morning, there will be a slight improvement, maybe not below zero, but still around 10 degrees on the cape and the islands. mostly clear overnight as well as we drop back into the teens. similar to this morning. we will make slight, keyword slight improvements tomorrow morning. in the 30s as opposed to the 20s. the real feel, knocking off about 10 degrees. there will be some clouds mixing in, but no precipitation to worry about. we will get the snow to the north, but no big storms in the forecast through the middle part of the week. there will be a little bit of disturbance with the snow from

the mid atlantic. that will push off of the north carolina coastline. that sets the stage for our potential weekend storm. gulf of mexico energy all the way from the tennessee river new england. right now, it looks like the storm would pass to the south and east of nantucket. side. this many days out, there's still some uncertainty. the time frame looks like saturday to sunday morning. that is the biggest concern with potentially the most snow we have had so far this season. could be up to 6-inches of snow not out of the question. temperatures right in the teens through the start of the week. visit. this is the second and third graders.

up on 6: 30 right now, i'm chris mckinnon. >> and i'm kathryn hauser. it is tuesday, january 19th. it's so cold out there. we have been saying all morning you need the hats and the gloves and the scarf. >> even if the kids refuse, i don't want to wear the hat and scarf, put them on. the sunrise is coming up about 40 minutes from now and we get a couple of clouds out there. the camera is shaking around a little bit because the wind is strong. frigid start from start to finish with the temperatures rising into the 20s, that's it by the time school is out. up near 40 in the vineyard in nantucket. we may see some gusts as high as 40-50 miles per hour. windchill right now, 2 below in boston, the real feel is 9 below.

opened on the expressway because of an equipment problem according to mass dot, it's about a 15 minute back up now on the ride from the split up to columbia road. the ntba is working to make sure some passengers are not left in the cold this morning. >> the agency taking extra steps to keep the trains running in the tough conditions. you are dressed perfectly, nicole for the cold weather. [ laughter ] >> reporter: and let's hope these commuters are dressed well as well. i'm sure they are hoping not to have to stand out on the platform today waiting for the late train or a train not to show up, and i can tell you the ntba has been working this morning to warm up the trains to make sure the tracks are not frozen.

it's moving nice and easy this morning. they did start to do that earlier, but even with that preparation, they say it doesn't mean that they wouldn't be completely void of weather relate ted issues because these prolonged cold snaps make the tracks brittle which, in turn they say creates a lot of problems. so taking another live look here, we are at north quincy station, the red line here. we have been keeping up the twitter which is one of the ways that ntba officials let commuters know ability the delays or the status of their trains. we have seen minor delays, but nothing major given the cold. reporting live in quincy, nicole jay sobs. >> thank you -- jacobs. >> thank you, nicole. a judge could set a new

plenty of sunshine in the forecast today and tomorrow. we will get a couple of clouds mixed in, even a couple of snow showers in northern vermont and new hampshire today. the wind and the cold is the story for now. there could be a little bit of a disturbance with areas of snow from-on-on, virginia -- ohio, virginia, tennessee. we don't have to worry about that. a new area of high pressure is coming in and locking it in place and then we turn to the south. areas of snow spread in. it looks like the jackpot maybe in virginia, west virginia. but cold enough here that the storm makes its closest path south and east of nantucket. we are likely to see the snowfall here as well. a little bit early to say the amounts, but be prepared.
