stretch. lots of layers. windy and frigid. real feel temperatures in the single digits. actual air temps in the low teens. the storm system we are watching, the energy moved ashore. that is important. once they are over land there is better sampling of them. you can start to hone in on a solution. high confidence that we will have a major east coast storm system. in particular the mid-atlantic gets the brunt of this one around d.c. to virginia and as far north as new york. for us, saturday afternoon into sunday morning, we will live on the edge of this storm system. we expect a very sharp cut off between who could see significant snow and who will pick up no snow at all. we will take a look at potentials and biggest totals in a bit. clearly a lot is undecided. stay with eric and the weather team the next few days for the latest on the storm.

a shooting on the blue line. two people wounded as the train pulled into the maverick t stop. christina hager is live with the latest. >> reporter: david, right now, police are looking for the gunman that shot two men. first 29-year-old as he was getting off the train and a 43- year-old on the platform. we spoke to a witness who got video on his cell phone. >> there is an individual here lying on the ground. >> reporter: marty says you never know when something like this might happen. he was heading out to get new glasses, just boarded the train in east boston when -- >> just at that moment i heard or shot. and then what i saw was the people in my car started from the doors. was going on. i could see there was a body.

blue line service stopped leaving dozens of passengers in the bitter cold waiting for a ride. transit police if planning it started with an argument on the train. >> one male pulled out a firearm and fired at least two rounds at the victim striking him. the fight then spilled on to the platform. >> i heard two more shots and a couple of ladies came on to our car crying. >> two men shot with what police say were nonlife- threatening injuries and a lot of witnesses shaken up. >> the first thought that came not only to my mind but to everybody, are we in the middle -- is this something -- is this a public shooting. >> reporter: after those scary moments, the blue line trains are back up and running while police continue to look for the gunman last seen running away

christina hager, wbz news. back to you. >> scary moments. thanks so much. more breaking news tonight. a verdict in the trial connected to this horrific crash. liam martin has the details. >> reporter: the driver has been convicted of negligent operation. nikolas papadopoulos was 18 years old when he crashed into a pickup truck on the arbor way. prosecutors say he was speeding up to 80 miles per hour on that narrow road. a passenger in papadopoulos's waist down. the pick up driver suffered a recovered. verdict was red. to read guilty. he changed his mind when he learned the deal included two years in prison. we will see how much he gets 3rd. the maximum is two years.

behind bars. florida supreme court declined to here his appeal. he was convicted of tipping off whitey bulger about appending indictment in 1994. now a developing story. threats against schools all across the state. a recorded message warning schools about a bomb on campus. take a look at this. all of the cities and towns that received the threat, there were 15 of them, for all of them it turned out to be a false alarm. this is more than a nuisance for police, teachers, students and parents. bree sison is live in newton. >> reporter: newton north high school is one of several dozen schools threatened since last friday. in an automated message, a recording was saying that there were bombs placed in backpacks and students would be shot as they tried to flee the school.

agencies are investigating this but evacuating the schools and trying to figure out who made the threats is wasting resources that could be used somewhere else. newton north high school surrounded by police and fire trucks, a scene that played out in 15 towns across the state including arlington where it was clear a hoaxster frustrated officials. >> what do you have to say to the person or persons? >> i like forward to meeting you. >> -- i look forward to meeting you. >> difficult decision because it involves a lot of students, very young students for that matter that have to be moved. >> reporter: moving students creates lingering problems for educators because the buzz among the community doesn't go away instantly, according to the director of the massachusetts association of school superintendents. >> just a ripple effect in terms of the number of people whose anxiety increased and

>> tim scott says our state has the best public schools in the country. doing nothing isn't an option in these cases so resources, most significantly time must unfortunately be spent creating protocols and procedures. >> even when they are low level incidents like this where we get robo calls or continually seeing computerized threats. you can't just dismiss them. you need to do something reasonable. >> reporter: so, all these local towns are working with the state police and the state fire marshall through the fusion cerne connected to the fbi. law enforcement reminds the fbi that it is a severe felony to call in a bomb threat tunisia punishable by up to 20 years in prison and $50,000 fine. bree sison, wbz news. back to you. >> serious, no question. thank you. mayor marty walsh delivers

strong storm system developing in the mid-atlantic. blizzard conditions, huge snow, likely over two feet around d.c., virginia. any plans here? i would think about rearranging those. we will be on the northern periphery of this. a nice edge between who gets the big snow and who gets little. the highest confidence zone is in blue. the chance of snow extends across new england. this does not look like a northern new england storm at all. i wanted to break it down where the highest risk is, over two inches and that could be much more than that. the highest risk cape cod island, south shore the higher totals. moderate risk happening in the boston area. northern massachusetts and new hampshire very little and maybe no snow at all. being there are four days left there already things to monitor. i wouldn't rearrange plans at this point.
