trying to peep for the nor'easter wondering what -- prepare for the nor'easter wondering what we are in for a blizzard watch for new york long island and new jersey as well. >> that blizzard watch is in effect in dc and baltimore and down that part of the country they got a taste of what's to come last night snow brought the evening rush to a standstill in the nation's capital and more snow is on the the way for them. >> what's going to happen with us that's what we want to know. what's the news with our territory. >> nothing like through new historic snowfall. for us the first flakes saturday afternoon and evening from south to north. the worst saturday night that's the peak of the snow and wind especially in southeastern massachusetts and it will be morning. high tide cycle on sunday morning may be a concern coming up around 11 a.m. and with the building seas whoa may be talking about beach erosion and minor coastal flooding.

that. 5:02. a warning for airline travelers ahead of the weekend storm. >> so many carriers are telling passengers to change flights now ahead of the snowstorm. nicole jacobs is live this morning and airlines just telling passengers to get ready because it's going tubes cancellations -- it's going to be cancellation. >> reporter: there will be but we know this is also a big travel weekend for patriots fans heading to denver for the afc championship. but the big question for anyone traveling to and from anywhere on the east coast is how early you can get ahead of the storm. we have been hearing about it for days now. a winter storm moving up the east coast sure to affect north carolina virginia and washington, d.c. and maryland and philadelphia and new york. it will put a halt to travel plans for many as delays and cancellations have proven to be

darius fleming knew he couldn't hesitate. >> the mome smoke started to freak me out and i was leek ican't tell her i will be right back and get her out now. >> reporter: on the way home from practice last thursday he saw a woman trapped inside a smoking car. he stopped to help pull her out. >> there was smoke coming from the front as it was smashed in. and then i started to try to kick open the passenger side window when i saw someone approach and he gestured that you know he would kick the window open for me and he did after a couple attempts. >> reporter: the victim didn't want her identity revealed but she did want to make sure fleming was properly recognized. >> ever so grateful he was able to be there and pulled over and he was heroic in that way. >> reporter: she said she didn't know he was a patriots player at first she was overwhelmed by the scene. fleming's teammates say they expect nothing less of him calling him a hero on and off the field.

a lot of the rest of the region and the wind chill will stay in the teens today. but any clouds we had overnight are tending to fizzle away here. so we are in to ar-- in for a lot of sunshine and looks beautiful in terms what have it locks like. real feel and teens coming up around or just shy of 30 degrees and the wind will gust occasionally between 20 and 30 miles per hour. that will be the case tonight too. so clear and blustery and dropping into the teens and the real feel in the single digits at times. not as windy tomorrow. that's the biggest difference. plenty ofshoin and a few late day clouds for tomorrow and up around 30. where is the storm right now? areas of snow and ice back through arkansas and missouri and nebraska and kansas and we will tap the gulf of mexico a chance severe weather for the gulf coast states and snow blossoms through ohio and later this afternoon and through the day tomorrow. by saturday morning, the snow is advancing in new york city. we are fine here at home while it's going to be battering

for us snow arrives from south to north late afternoon into the evening. the height of the storm is saturday night and the center passes south and east of nantucket with the snow on sunday morning wrapping up pretty quickly here. we may get mixing concerns when nantucket. so we still have wiggle room and we are over 24-- 48 hours out from this event i can tell you this looks like it's going to be a very sharp cut off so farther south here. if that is the case we will have to shift everything farther south. sharp cut off means a few inches and around the city of boston and little if anything north of that. highest risk still 6 or more inches is along the south coast. and back down near the cape cod canal. maybe a few inches in the outer cape and nantucket because of that mixing concern. wind gusts projections strongest winds come in saturday night and into early on sunday morning. places like plymouth to sandwich near cape cod bay with

27 through the mid-day lunch hour gusts over 20 miles per hour will make it feel colder. cold and breezy for the ride home. sunset at 4:43 and temperatures in the mid-20s. so the storm itself is going to be developing during the day today and tomorrow. across the southeastern united states. snow from louisiana stretching back through west virginia by tomorrow morning. the snow for us doesn't arrive until saturday. and impact the snow -- in fact the snow will fall hard tomorrow night into saturday morning through philly and dc and baltimore. notice the rain closer to the coast and then snow advances in for us from south to north saturday late afternoon. height of the storm comes in saturday night for us here in southern new england. i will take you out through what i am thinking in terms of accumulation and coastal impact. traffic and weather together. >> reporter: pretty quiet right now with no major backups or accidents out there. but we have water main break north of the city. it's up in salem route 1a near riverview street north of the square total traffic network

need help getting out the car. look at the intense smoke. no one was hurt. in redding police are investigating after an elderly man was struck and killed by a sidewalk plow. the-year-old jacob goldberg was hit walking near his home on monday. a man driving to the gym witnessed the crash and called 911e says the victim was walking in the road when the plow hit him. >> i see that he keeps walking and keeps walking into the street and across as he was going to cross 129 lowell street and i said to myself he is going to get hit the guy is going to get hit and then i didn't see him anymore. >> goldberg is survived by two adult children grandchildren and a wife of 6 decades. it's 5:43a star on the reality show wicked tuna plead guilty to fraud charges. paul hebert of gloucester was charged last sumer with accepting 400,000 dollars in government benefits while claiming to be disabled and unable to work.

the rockies and today, it's down across at least portions of the missouri valley so this is going to dive to the south. gulf of mexico moisture picked up by the storm center as it blossoms during the day today but especially dour the day tomorrow. threat for severe weather and the snow advances across southern ohio stretching through the mid at lant being evening. the snow coming in to dc, baltimore and new york city by early on saturday morning. for us we are dry. storms intensifying here coming off the coastline snow arrives from south to north. late saturday afternoon and evening and the height of the storm for us so to speak comes in on saturday night and sunday morning during the predawn. by sunday morning, notice well inland the snow is going to be tapering off and that happens pretty quickly from northwest to southeast on sunday morning.

this is looking like low impact it canly north of the mass pica sharp cut off on the northern extent where the snow comes down. little if anything over the mass new hampshire border a coating to an inch or so northern massachusetts but a few inches from boston to the providence corridor with the highest risk of 6 or more inch coming along the south coast. cape cod canal we may get mixing issues on the outer cape on nantucket that may hold our totals to a couple inches. if the storm were to track farther south we have to squeeze everything further south and that will be lesser totals along the south coast. weekend tides to watch. at the coastline, we will be saturday night at 11:02 p.m. and because of the full moon this is going to be an issue. minor flooding and beach erosion. sunday morning may be more of a concern let's say the plymouth duxbury areas. the sun comes out by sunday afternoon.

in school buildings. many are questioning whether this move helps or hurts students. here's robi with more. >> reporter: chris 85 of detroit's 100 schools were forced to close yesterday. parents forced to make last- minute day care plans a massive teacher sick out that is expected to happen again today. disgruntled detroit teachers used the outside voices in freezing temperatures to call attention to the plight of the schools. some of the problems they documented including floorboards coming up. moldy ceiling tiles falling down and they had video of mice classrooms. and also, 44,000 teachers schools are closed we can't show you the bathroom pictures that they posted they are to gross for morning tv. sick out meant that all the kid will have to stay home parents are going to have to make other plans and everything. teachers very upset about pay cuts 515 million in the red. that's what the school district
