moves in thousands of flights are canceled and mass transit is set to shut down tonight. the federal government closing offices at noon and nonemergency workers are being told to stay home. >> danielle niles tos is in tracking the storm and this thing really has started to gain--ing -- gaining ?reengt we have white new pink greens orange red and light ening across the gulf coast and a sign of how much energy there is with storm. snow is advancing across virginia now and the storm center is going to redevelop here off the carolina coast. this is the classic set up that will strengthen as it moves off the delmarva coastline later today. so what does it mean for us? we know the mid-atlantic will get blasted with a major travel disruption from new york back down to the carolinas. we are on the edge. the main impact for us will be along the south coast cape and islands for snow and wind. we are also watching the coastline closely as well with the full moon and rough seas

and again on sunday morning. so here's the hour by hour timeline. today's quiet by the way. tomorrow morning we start with clouds. snow advances from south to north. timing may be quick here but you get idea. coming in tomorrow afternoon, tomorrow evening and night is the height of the storm. notice you get north of the mass new hampshire border and we are talking about little if any snow and there may be a little mixing from nantucket to the outer cape and sunday morning, all the snow is wrapping up ending by late morning in the cape and islands. who are's what we are thinking. flurries to coating in northern massachusetts. you get to the mass pike and southern essex county and boston and worcester coating to two inches and higher amounts two to five south of town back through plymouth county and through providence and there may be locally higher amounts on the came and islands as well. so we will keep you posted on track. and today it's quiet and chilly. temperatures rising into the 20s with wispy clouds on the increase. let's get you on the roads this morning traffic and weather together. >> reporter: good morning. the friday morning commute is

somehow the vehicle slammed through the wall outside and plunged into the swimming pool. we know the driver was able to get out on their own and we also know that it took crews quite a while to remove the suv from the swimming pool and tow it away. i can tell you as well according to cambridge police no one was injured in the situation which is certainly good news. as we take another live look here and crews continued to workto clap things up there's questions as to exactly how-- clean things up there's questions as to exactly how this happened. police are investigating to determine that. but what we know right now is there are no charges. we will continue to teem you -- keep you update on the story. nicole jacobs wbz this morning. >> thank you very much. we are following a developing story in cambridge this morning. schools there will be opened today but there will be extra security in place. cambridge is the latest

an e-mail was sent threatening a bomb at the public schools for today. district says there's no evidence that this is a credible threat. but as a precaution, there will be visible police presence at all cambridge public schools. police making the first arrest in the rash of school threats we have seen. methuen police say a 15-year- old student threatened an attack yesterday. they tell us it was a copycat of wednesday's threat which forced the evacuation of methuen high school and a bag by bag is search. in a week there's been threats in around 20 communities across the state. don't mess with maria. a gutsy store clerk fights off an armed robber in brockton. maria alves says when a man in a hoodie threatened her she had this and her instincts took over and she grabbed the wooden club and hit him once and he took off. she says she won't be scared away from her business.

we have winter storm warnings and advisories and watches and blizzard warnings up for the capital back up to philly and new york and for us, we have just seen the winter storm watches expanned to include- -expand to include the cape and islands far southern bristol county and plymouth county as well. that comes up tomorrow morning and last until sunday morning. currently we are in the teens. we get a quiet day today. we can take a deep breath and watch the storm evolve and the real feel is running in the single digits so it's another cold start to the day. we do rebound coming up to around 30. or just over that in boston. low to mid-30s on the cape and cooler north and west of town. you will notice as an increase in whys pi clouds through the day today. meanwhile here is our storm just an impressive shot this morning. we have got snow on the backside of it reaching back down to mississippi and through arkansas and we have severe weather ongoing in the florida panhandle. a sign of how much energy we

advancing through the northern portion of virginia now north carolina and dealing with ice and snow and what does it mean for us? today's quiet tonight the clouds increase. tomorrow morning, we are quiet as well. but the snow will be coming through new york sit they by tomorrow morning advancing into can't cut and moving in south to north -- connecticut and moving in south and north. the timeline may on the faster side. notice the height of the storm comes in for tomorrow evening and night. and you get over the mass new hampshire border, it's going to be little if any snow. so it's sharp cut off from where we see a coating to a few flurries to several inches. there may be some making that goes on from nantucket to the outer cape briefly. but then cold air snaps back in and we will change back over to snow if we have making that occurs. everybody else it's all snow by sunday morning it's done. look at that. sharp clearing comes in too. the sun comes out snow wraps up by late morning on sunday. and it's out of here as the storm pulls away. so in terms of what we are

mind we are over 24 hours out. it will be a lot of tweaking that goes on. flurries in northern massachusetts a coating but it's more like a coating to two from essex county into the city of worcester. and we may end up with two or three in boston and 2 to 5 when you get south of town and there may be higher amounts right along the south coast over to the cape. if the storm tracks closer we will shift everything a little farther north. same goes the other way. tracks farther out to sea we will trim the amounts down a little bit. we will show outwing. forecast wing got over 50 miles per hour tomorrow evening and night. from plymouth down to the cape and that's where the strongest winds will occur that may result in isolated pockets of outages and blowing and drifting snow. saturday evening through early on sunday morning. monday it's a beautiful start next week and we jump into the 40s on tuesday and wednesday. looks quiet too maybe a couple flurries on tuesday night.

look at the storm right now just really starting to take shape. we have thunderstorms and the live lightning on here. down across the gulf coast states snow is advancing and we have ice and snow in north carolina. on backside of the storm it's snowing in arkansas and back into northwest mississippi so this is a big storm. what does it mean for us? the timeline looks like the first flakes will arrive south to north tomorrow after nonand evening especially. the peak snow and wind will be saturday night and the focus along the south coast through southeastern massachusetts and it will be moving out pretty quickly as we head into sunday morning. the winds will subside the sun will come out too. now until then we are quiet. temperatures in the teens right now. 19 in boston but, stale little bit of an active wind. wind is going to subside through the day today but it's creating real feel values in the single digits right now. so, it's another blustery start. through the day today you will notice how increase in the wispy clouds and clouds that thicken up tonight and tomorrow morning.

5:32 checking our top stories an suv crashes into an indoor swimming pool in cambridge. it happened before midnight at a condo complex on museum way. you can see the suv floating in the pool. it's unclear how this happened right now. we want to take live pictures at the cleanup situation still underway. we are told the driver did get out on their own nobody was hurt and so far no charges have been filed. also developing in cambridge this morning, heightened security at all cambridge public schools today. following an e-mailed bomb threat. district says there's no evidence that this is a credible threat but there will be a visible police presence throughout the day as a precaution. this is the latest in a string of threats at schools across massachusetts. in other news one defamation lawsuit dropped against bill cosby a a federal judge in pennsylvania said a woman's claim didn't meet standards necessary to move forward. anita hill sued saying her

accused her of lying about sex assault allegations. more than 50 women have come forward to accuse cosby. he is facing criminal charges in one case. police are trying to track down two dogs that were stolen from a somerville home. both dogs are pom rainians. take a look -- pomeranians. the male weighs 14 pounds and the female is about 7 pounds. somerville police believe they were taken from a apartment on somer street on tuesday before 7 p.m. it's 4:-- 5:34 police are crediting a norton teen for help them catch a career criminal. steve mudge broke into the teens home wednesday night and the 14-year-old girl hid in the closet and called 911. mudge took off when officers arrived but they quickly tracked him down. we are getting ready for sunday's big showdown between the patriots and broncos. so this morning, we are giving you a rare look at action that takes place behind the scenes of the afc championship game.
