good morning. this was yesterday. high winds whipped the snow into white out conditions. good morning everybody. thanks for being with us. i'm carrie. nor'easter. pamela is here now. i was a little concerned driving from the south shore. it. >> yes. >> it will take a while to dig yourselves out of there. we did have slightly more snow than expected. the big band moved a little bit farther to the north.

in this one didn't she? those snow showers are all across the south coast. nothing too heavy. this is the last little bit of snow before we get sunshine out here. by 9:00 a.m. and beyond the snow is gone. temperatures in the upper 20s, low 30s. not warming up too much. but how much snow did we see? 4.5 inches of snow. 13.3 inches of snow. danielle has been monitoring the situation where we did have the jackpot snowfall. how is it out there? >> reporter: it's cold, pamela. it is a little chilly.

from the north now. i have been reading gusts over 30 miles per hour. when that wind whips in it's so pasty down here. it is really a sticky wet snow. a lot of the poles, banisters, signs have the snow kind of plastered on. now it will be watching the coast sign. check out the wind gusts. we are still gusting over 40 miles per hour in parts of the cape as we get a strong gust right now. a lot of gusts over 20 miles per hour when you get north of boston and over 30 miles per hour towards the south shore as well. that wind will slowly subside, gradually through the course of the day.

built up on the seas. as high tide approaches we'll see minor areas of splash over and flooding and there's lower risk of moderate coastal flooding. it is in effect until early afternoon from the south shore into cape cod. so we are digging out here. not many people out but it will warm up in between. the windchill is running in the single digits and teens right now. i forgot my waterproof mascara. >> that's so stressful. i know you stayed with your parents last night? can i give your dad a shout out

>> my mom was cooking me a cup of tea. >> they are the best parents. >> they are. nearly 7000 flights were canceled. logan was up and running. airlines have started cutting monday service. there are already more than 600 monday flights grounded. in boston more than 6 inches of snow fell in some areas. after last year most people felt relieved the city didn't get hit harder. communities worried about possible flooding. high winds combined with high tide to ramp up the anxiety of homeowners. >> we were very lucky. >> reporter: brenda says the early saturday high tide came right up over the sea wall. thanks to some protection the

>> this is what my husband did to protect the house this year. we don't think any waves are going to get through it. >> reporter: the wind was howling all night long, a maximum gust of 51 blowing snow bands in off of the atlantic. the high tide was expected to be extra high but the south this storm. >> we remember the storms from last winter. you can't beat last winter. >> reporter: this is a walk in the park? >> yes. compared when we were clobbered with storm after storm every night. >> reporter: not a block buster storm and some are disappointed.

officials expect nearly 30 inches of snow in the big apple. >> the rate of this know storm continues to be intense between 1 and 3-inches per hours. >> reporter: philadelphia could get up to 3 feet of snow by the time the storm ends. >> well beyond the idea of winter wonderland. no romance to a blizzard in my mind. >> reporter: this bride was going to the chapel to get married no matter what. high winds caused blinding white out conditions near the nation's capital. snow has been falling so fast crews can't clear roads. side streets are out of the question and officials warn it

now to campaign 2016, two major endorsements nine days ahead of the iowa caucuses. they have endorsed hillary clinton and marco rubio. the paper supported candidates who then lost the caucuses. donald trump was also out in iowa. he had some bold and wild predictions about the loyalty of his supporters. >> the polls. they say i have the most loyal people. i could stand in the middle of 5th avenue and shoot somebody and i wouldn't lose any voters. >> glenn beg just wrote an anti-trump eases say and endorsed ted cruz. thinking about an

flooding was a big issue. water covered the streets of the city. the mayor said heavy winds and freezing temps made it worse than super storm sandy. how are we looking this

pamela has a look. >> all of the snow accumulation is done here in boston especially along the south shore and north shore. showers. minute. it was officially a blizzard for nantucket and plymouth. it is for 3 hours or more. reduced visibility under a quarter of a mile. it was obviously snowing at the time too. it is official for you. boston. we did get 6.1 inches of snow. total forthe season 10.4 inches of snow. this is below average for this date. no additional snow in your seven day forecast.

a few light snow showers continue to fall along the south coast. light snow showing up there. it is on the outer cape getting light snow. we will continue to see things shape up today with some sunshine. winter storm warning until 7:00 a.m.. it will take a little while to get through digging ourselves out of all of this heavy snow. this is where we saw the brunt of the storm. it's not over yet. >> no. it's not. i stayed at my parents last night. the viz ability, once the snow moved in went from pactly perfect to near zero in a few minutes. a couple of flurries but the

and the totals were impressive. let's check out the weather watcher reports. over a foot, east sal -- nantucket picking up just under a foot and the windigos too, wow, near hurricane force. nantucket with a 73 miles per hour gust. rock portagues over 50 miles per hour. what's the wind doing right now? i have to say it feels like it is stronger. some of the gusts i have been measuring over 40 miles per hour. it is over 40 on nantucket and over 40 on the south shore. the wind will gradually subside. we are near the canal. you can see there's a bell over there.

wind was coming in from. you can see the snow plastered on one side of it. we have about 8 inches here. it is a sticky wet consistency. i have a feeling a lot of kids will be out making snow men and snow women later on today. >> yeah, that's great packing snow and even snowball fights out there. awesome. we'll check back with you later. temperatures running in the 20s and teens out there. it will be a chilly day even though we'll get sunshine. it will be deceiving sunshine. it feels more like 6 degrees in boston as that wind comes from the north, northeast. highs will be right around the freezing mark and overnight dipping into the teens. it looks like we'll continue to clear things out for the next seven days.

good morning everybody. you're looking live at the city of boston which got around 6 inches of snow from the massive storm that blanketed the east coast yesterday. good morning everybody. thanks for being with us. we almost got through january. two big stories, the patriots and the weatherment we begin with danielle and pamela keeping an eye on things in the studio for us. good morning. >> good morning.

it is a direct link to the moon. we still have a few light snow showers falling right now. it is not expecting any additional accumulation. it is so light on the outer cape and over the next couple of hours this will continue to move out to sea completely out of our area by the next hour or so. this afternoon temperatures will be in the upper 20s and low 30s. we do have a winter weather visely in effect. you do have still all of that heavy snow to dig out from. the wind will be an issue and flooding will be an issue later today. danielle is experiencing what mother nature has in store for us down on the cape. >> reporter: some of the totals

there is still some outages on cape cod as well because of the heavy wind and snow. temperatures right around the 30s it was more of a pasty consistency that sticks to everything. it is caked on everything in cape cod. it is not snowing right now but the wind is still gusting over 25 miles per hour. i have been reading readings over 30 but compare today what new york city saw this is nothing. so what we are waiting on, and you'll see in the graphic coming up here, we're waiting to see if we have broken the all time snowfall record for a day. this is absolutely remarkable. this was 26.9 inches. this storm 26.8 right now.

the greatest snowstorm in new york city. what about us from the south shore back down? hanover 7. picking up 3 inches. so it was a tale of two different things. system of the bands and reduced visibilities, blizzard conditions and little of anything getting north and west of boston. really we talked about that sharp cut off. we certainly had it from this storm. back to you. >> all right. thank you so much. we are going to touch base with you. go grab a cup of warm coffee and we'll see you shortly. boston got about a half a foot of snow. it is enough to cause problems on the roadways. most people took this storm in stride though. >> reporter: from work to play

[laughter] >> reporter: the bulk of the snow is out here. wbz news this morning. >> while portions of the islands were hit hard washington d. c. is digging out. as much as 3 feet of snow fell in the area.

as three major airports in the region. they are expected to be closed today as well. there were at least 18 storm related deaths. 26 inches of snow recorded at central park. it lead to a travel band as 2 feet of snow fell on manhattan. wendy reports public transportation and even broadway shows were even shut down. >> reporter: tunnels and bridges were shut down. >> it is very important so

whether the patriots are headed back to the super bowl. i wish i had a crystal ball. fans gathered to get ready for the game. they could not believe who joined their party. [ music ] >> reporter: it is a party strictly for patriot fans in denver from posing with the players to the music straight out of boston this is all new england. in the middle of all of this madness a super bowl sized surprise. robert craft makes an unexpected appearance. the owner of the patriots telling us he had to be here to say thanks. >> these fans are great. it is the sixth time coming to this event.

the patriots have a chance to go back to the super bowl. i sat down with brandon for an interview. you could see it and asked how it feels to be one win away from a second straight trip to the big game. >> you really have to put yourself in mind set that tomorrow is not promised. i have to go in here. i have to study, lift and make sure i'm in the best condition i can be. you never know. if we go out there and we lose can i honestly say was i in any decent shape that i feel like i was stronger than my opponent? >> reporter: there's your focus. they know what's at stake. >> confidence. that's the beauty of playing in the final four of the nfl here.

because two years ago they came and beat the patriots here in the championship game. they are confident as well. the broncos held their final full practice on friday. patriots were flying here. the team had a good week of practice but he knows to expect to unexpected when facing a team. >> he is very difficult to prepare for. his team is very difficult to prepare for. they do a tremendous job of coaching and doing a lot of things. their players handle a lot. you can show up on sunday and you can work on one thing all week and doing something totally different. >> reporter: he is very hard to game plan for. peyton manning here at the stadium in denver. tom brady here at the stadium in denver. >> that's an amazing stack.

peyton manning is throwing one touchdown pass at home. >> i run for his team defense and then peyton manning. it has been effective. back. he got hurt last game. he is helping and ready to go. key. >> yes. we saw it when he has it totally different offense. on the other side the patriots defense, they ran for 179-yards in three touchdowns when they won here in overtime. it will be another key to watching today. >> it is all about stopping the run. >> we have two full hours today. >> it is fun. >> absolutely. >> and danny talked about wbz had your covered. kick off at 3:00.

after the game join us for the post game show. how about the hockey team in town. the bruins hosting gregory campbell. campbell went two cup finals. gives up for a two goal lead. the blue jackets were tied at two and send the game into a shoot out. in the shoot out they scored to lift the bruins past columbus. the bruins did their job last night. we'll see if the patriots can get it done in the biggest game one win away from super bowl 50. back to you. >> thank you. the storm is like an interregesser bunny in washington, a time lapse video

as you watch this you realize and his neighborhood. it was a historic storm in the nation's capitol. some areas getting as much as 30 inches. that's pretty cool. and pamela is standing by for what's for us. speak. so far we have accumulated over a foot of snow. this is it.

this is 15.3 inches of snow. this was the latest report with a foot of snow. notice clear skies and no snow falling for areas to the north or west. on the vineyard we are still dealing with light snow moving out at this point in time. we are dealing with a winter storm warning. they are doing a pretty good job. it is a bit of a challenge. hour by hour forecast you see the clouds for a good part of the morning.

we are experiencing the wind out there, the cold and takes measurements in the snow too. danielle, the next big challenge will be the coastal flooding. >> yes. all eyes on the coastline. we have been measuring wind gusts. the windchill is in the teens at types. we have the west snow. it is kind of caked on everything out here. i haven't seen a lot of cars this early in the morning. just under 900 customers are without power. under 900 customers not too bad. a lot of crews heading up there. meanwhile let's talk about the wind gusts because the wind is not nearly as strong as it was yesterday. okay. we had near hurricane force gusts.

30 miles per hour. we are 40 back down to nantucket. if you get a bit of a wind it creates a windchill value. it is running in the single digits and teens this morning. bundled up. warning. it has been upgraded. to nantucket. that's where we are expected to experience minor to moderate pockets of flooding. the rest of the coastline is in a coastal flood advisory for widespread areas. high tide time coming up at 11:00 a.m. this morning. it is either side. it is two hours either side of that. that's why the advisory is in effect until 2:00 p.m. this afternoon. pamela, residents at the
