headed north on 128 lost the tire. the tire flew across the highway and went through the windshield of a car heading southbound. the driver of that car was killed at the scene. >> a shooting outside of one of boston's most luxurious hotels. police tell us andrew flack lost his cool when employees told him he could not leave the hotel with his drink and he fired outside. a water main mess in waltham. a big break at a major intersection. repair crews are still on scene. >> it could be a while before anyone can drive through the area. kate merrill is live at the scene with a closer look. kate? >> reporter: liam, it's a mess on river street in waltham. it's been a long day digging up the street after a water main sprung a leak. now the race is on to fix the hole in that street.

a water main leaked and there was a gas leak to contend with. the danger for the gas leak is over but i'm told that main, that water main simply sprung a leak causing water to flood the street. the road buckled. they have now rerouted the water but businesses are being affected because customers can't get near lilly's kitchen and the u-haul. it made for a tough day because customers can't get close because all the roads nearby are closed. they are not able to get here. >> not able to get her so -- difficult? >> it is. >> oh, yeah, the street is no traffic or anything. >> people are calling in asking how to get here and stuff. >> can they get here? what are you telling them? >> i don't know what to tell them. i don't know what is going on down there. >> reporter: here is the good news, half the hole is filled in. i am told this should be fixed

they didn't fix the leak. they simply rerouted the water. again, this intersection on river street should open, they hope by 8:00 p.m. tonight. kate merrill, wbz news. >> a lot of work hated that possible. a new hampshire man is under arrest accused of stalking and groping three female students. manchester police arrested 19- year-old this morning. the central high school student say he approached them as they were walking to school and tried to lure them to his home. they also say he touched them as they walked by. police tell us they are increasing patrols around that school. two boston city counselors talked about the plan to arm police with tactical rifles. they wrote an open letter to the university's president saying mission hill and roxbury residents should be able to weigh in. the counselors say is the move could encourage mistrust and fear. tonight parents and school officials in newton will talk

late as 9:00 in the morning. studies find that teenagers may perform better in school if classes start later and they get more time to sleep. they hope to vote this spring to put the changes in place by september. the public forum starts at 7:00. the owners of el faro reached a settlement with some of the crews families. in october it got caught in a hurricane and sank. all 33 crew members were killed. family members sued saying the ship was overdo for repairs. the owners have paid 500,000 dollars settlements to ten families. other legal claims are still pending. tonight hollywood is mourning the loss of a great character actor. abe vigoda died in his sleep at his daughter's new jersey home. he was best known for his role as detective fish in barney miller. he was 94 years old. a developing story. a dramatic warning about a dangerous man that escaped from

hi praise for an apple store employee that jumped into action when the boy needed help. >> he saw the boy run into a wall. >> the boy's mom said he knew what to do to help his son. she wants the world to know about it. >> this is lynne marie and her 9-year-old son james. he has down syndrome. a few years ago he was diagnosed with autism. >> when you are a parent of a special needs child you get lots of stares and you get -- some people are kind but you never know what you will get. >> reporter: james uses an ipad to communicate. he and his mom were at an apple store buying a new one. something outside the store caught his attention. he tried to run after it but ran smack into a glass wall. >> he just took off running full steam ahead and he smacked himself into the wall.

morning. in particular the south coast, cape and islands. everyone above freezing until early tomorrow morning. looking hour by hour, a lot of clouds out there. a chance for a few showers across southeastern massachusetts and a lot of clouds for tomorrow morning and a chance for that rainfall. not expecting too much but a damp start. then as the day goes on tomorrow, clearing from west to east. we will introduce more sunshine. also drier air and a chillier feel to the air, especially by tomorrow evening when you head home from work. out the door, well up into the 30s. a couple of showers. winds out of the west southwest. midday more sunshine in central massachusetts seeing the most breezy and drier. we will top in the low 40s and hold there through the afternoon. tomorrow evening. tomorrow night will be a cold night. 43 boston. 30s in the worcester hills and

plenty of melting snow on tap. thursday another nice day after the chilly start. we managed the low 40s, nicks mix of sun and -- nice mix of sun and storms. the main part moves out to see but there will be a link can between that storm and a polar disturbance to the west. there is still a chance for areas of snow to break out and snow showers friday, not a big event but something to keep tabs on. i don't think we will get the brunt but we have a chance of snow showers in the area toward friday. the cool day will be saturday in the 30s, a few snow showers and flurries. sunday back into the 40s. mild one. a chance at 50s on monday. i do think that any snow we have on the ground is gone by the middle of next week. >> 30s saturday. >> rough, right? >> talk to me at the end of next week.
