i do live from the channel 4 starts right now. >> and a new discovery in a north shore home. peabody. >> this investigation began from a frantic phone call from ken mcleod is live with the latest. ken? >> reporter: police, as you can see, have cleared the scene now. but they say the woman killed here earlier tonight was on the phone with a relative in brazil when she was fatally attacked. >> reporter: as the swarm of officers worked a taped off stretch of winter street tonight, neighbors felt violent crime hit close to home. >> really close. i mean, i wouldn't expect it to be this close. but, i guess, i don't know -- anything is possible now,

>> reporter: the relatives of the woman who lived here called police after a disturbing long distance clue. >> she was on the phone with a relative in brazil. that relative heard commotion and altercation and the line went dead. >> reporter: they discovered the woman stabbed to death and a man she haven't i.d.'s also dead with self-inflected stab wounds on the front door. >> outside the home, yes. >> reporter: police declined to discuss chatter from neighbors indicating the female victim had recently broken up with a hot-headed boyfriend. >> it goes on anywhere now. it doesn't matter where you live i don't think anymore. even the small towns have it now. so it's not good. >> reporter: about 90 minutes ago, police towed a car from this intersection believed to be from that ex-boyfriend's. they haven't released any names.

>> thank you! a home tribute tonight. crowds line the street from boston to hangam. hundreds showed out in tribute to christopher orlando. julie is live tonight where orlando's family just returned home. julie? >> reporter: it was truly an incredibly moving sight to behold. they waited for hours in the cold and were honored to do so. >> i got it right here. >> reporter: so many wanted to do something. >> in honor of this amazing young man who -- who -- is defending our country [ holding back tears ] >> our daughter is serving out in hawaii with the navy. and she was close with some of the guys. so she asked us, of course, if

and we certainly wanted to be here. >> reporter: so many came to honor a marine they never met. >> to see a young man whoas life ended so abruptly -- whoas life ended so abrupt -- whose life ended so abruptly, it's heartbreaking. >> so young and his whole life ahead of him! it's a terrible thing. it's a terrible, terrible thing. >> reporter: 12 marines were presumed dead this month after their helicopter crashed off the coast of hawaii. christopher orlando was among them. and tonight, his parents returned home without their 23- year-old son escorted by state and local police. to notify the family of this horrific crash. on edge. >> reporter: there isn't much left of the toyota camry crushed by a flying car that unexpectedly flew into the northbound lane of 128 and lexington on tuesday. the man behind the wheel was killed. >> i'm standby it. i think it's craze -- i'm stunned by it. i think it's crazy. >> it's scary, yeah. >> reporter: the drivers nearby that saw the crash just had no idea how tragic it was. >> i never in a thousand years would have guessed it was a tire that flew across. the chances of that happening are probably even less than getting struck by lightning. that's pretty scary. >> reporter: the tire came from the southbound side off of this truck driven by a 19-year-old woman. >> we all drive everyday. and heavy vehicles, they can kill. and accidents, unfortunately, are going to happen.

>> reporter: tony salvador spends his days driving a truck. he's seen terrible accidents and knows there's not much you can do. >> you just got to be ready. you know? you just got to paw attention. that's all. there's nothing you can do to stop it. >> reporter: a terrible tragedy that happened on a highway most of us use everyday, reminding some that safety can sometimes just come down to luck. >> it means that it could have happened to anybody. you're innocently driving and because of something that happens on the entire different side of the highway, you're dead! it shocks me to hear about it. >> reporter: the truck was driven by a 19-year-old woman. but that truck is registered to another man. no charges have been filed. but police are still investigating tonight. live in lexington, wbz news, lisa? >> thank you, kate. and police in south boston are investigating a deadly accident. they say a driver hit a 66-year- old man that was crossing an avenue tonight. we're told the driver did stop

officers have not released the victim's name. looking live at downtown boston tonight. yes, it's cooler now. but when the sun was out today, it didn't feel like winter. >> it's amid week meltdown. not going to stick around forever. >> late january, 11:00 at night, and 34 in boston. 35 in bellwood. the cool spot is orange at 35. that's warm for the middle of the afternoon, let alone middle of the night this time of year. the reason for it? cold front to our west and southwesterly breezes ahead of it. but the cooler, drier air behind that front will filter into the day tomorrow. before we get that, a couple of showers trying to move up the south side of cape overnight. no icy spots. so hour by hour into tomorrow morning, we're in the 30s out the door. it'll feel cooler. we don't see a lot of temperature rise as we get through the afternoon, staying right in the low 40s. and increasing sun as the day

is finally out. they used a crane to remove slabs of concrete where that fire was deep underground. yesterday's explosion. a cab driver is credited with grabbing a gun out of a man's hands near one of boston's swankiest hotels. police say flax stormed outside and fired a gun, then took off in a cab. the driver said he took the weapon from the man after he fired it in the cab. tonight wooster police are investigating whether a man hit by a freight train was actually killed first. they found 74-year-old hector ramos' body near the tracks of lincoln and press cot streets yesterday night. they're waiting to see if he actually died before the train hit him. investigators believe a bus driver had a medical emergency before crashing last night on

they caught him trying to buy a machine gun -- in milwaukee. they caught him trying to buy a machine gun from undercover agents. california investigators on this case referred to one of the inmates as hannah belector. and stunning new video shows a deputy's dramatic brush with death on the highway. a semitruck losing control hits the deputy, threw him 40 feet. it would have crushed him but he rolled with the truck. that move saved his life and he walked away from this unbelievable crash with just minor injuries. a teenager is warning others to learn of his mistake after an internet game almost killed him. fish said he took part in the duct tape challenge. it's a game popular online that involves breaking free from tape.

slammed his head into concrete, causing a brain aneurysm. >> i'm just really lucky to even be alive. >> he hit the corner of the window frame. and it crushed his whole eye socket. >> reporter: fish may permanently lose vision in that eye. well, new tonight, rescuers in maryland save a woman buried in snow since friday. national guard troops found her stranded in her car on a side street that hadn't been plowed. and because the roads weren't clear, they used a humvee to get to her. she ran out of gas and kept warm with blankets. she was hospitalized with hyperthermia but should be okay okay. be okay. state house. all walking around. >> most would prefer what we had today! >> really? what's your sense of anticipate!

>> it was fun -- adventure! come on! >> it was fun once. last year, boston had over 2 feet of snow in that blizzard. the low was about 11. tonight is 38. fall. that's the biggest all-time record of snow there. and in just three weeks, 83 inches of snow in wooster and boston. the amazing thing of last winter was every town had just about the same amount of snow. all the way from wooster to cape c.o.d. certainly not the case tonight. 44 degrees in boston. winter haven at 48. drier, cooler air to our west. that will start to spill in. not terribly cold. but you'll nose a difference tomorrow. there's a long strung out front to the southeast into new england. some cloud cover tonight. and a few sprinkles trying to move across. and the best chance of

into tomorrow morning the south, coast, cape, and island. low temperatures before dawn all above freezing except for central massachusetts. may see a few towns dipping below the freezing mark and ice developing. so watch that first out the door. hour by hour, the best chance of showers moving across far eastern massachusetts. that's where the clouds will be thickest tomorrow morning also. as the day wears on, we'll work in clears from west to east. the sun shining brightly. and temperatures about stay put. they start the day and end the day in almost the same spot. and a few snow showers as you're traveling west toward southern vermont tomorrow afternoon. well into the 30s and a couple rain showers. we work in more sunshine by lunchtime. what you'll notice is the winds start to kick up out of the west, northwest. and the air getting drier. more winter-like again toward the evening. so it'll very quickly start to feel chillier as the sun goes down. high temps in the low 40s across all of eastern massachusetts and staying in the 30s for central mass and new hampshire. thursday, beautiful day. partly cloudy skies.

more melting snow. still watching the ocean storm for friday morning. but it looks like it'll move a little farther off to our east. now, there's a little what we call a trough. it's where air is coming together, reaching back into southern new england and could spawn areas of snow fall or snow showers late thursday night into friday morning. the big idea is nothing significant is expected. doesn't look like a plowable snow fall at this point. and chillier air moves in for saturday. we stay in the 30s. few flurries, couple of snow showers. not significant. we warm up by sunday. well into the 40s. if you want to get outside, the milder of the two weekend days. we run into the 50s on monday. we may hit the 50s again on tuesday. [ chuckle ] >> and then on thursday, the big storm moves to our west. warm fronts have a tougher time making it through new england through winter. wednesday's in question. but big snow is not part of our forecast anytime soon.

although it's not incredibly warm, easy to take. toward next week, i think monday will end up being our warmest day of the forecast. well into the 50s!
