morning hours so not too bad out the door. 42 in boston right now. winds from the west at 13 mice per hour. 35 not too bad and currently most of us are in the lower 40s from lawrence to boston and a couple middle to upper 30s from worcester to keenate 37 and i am tracking a couple showers out there too. generally light for the most part and they will continue over the next couple hours over the cape. light from providencetown and to the islands moving to the east a couple skirting along bristol county. so those will continue between now and mid to late morning. temperatures may drop a couple degrees and come back up. steady in the lower 40s this afternoon with increasing sunshine and we will be breezy the wind gusting occasionally over 20 miles an hour. an isolated temperaturey or sprinkle for -- flurry or springel for the ride -- sprinkle for the ride home. >> reporter: we have slow downs

city and a truck fire out to the west. let's look live over the expressway. looks like the expressway northbound bumper to bumper from east milton square to columbia road. 10 minute delays. 128 southbound hangs up between logan express and the split. route 3 north sluggish between union and the split. to the north 93 southbound now heavy and slow between river road and 133. and then we have that box truck fire fully engulfed 495 northbound after boston road. up there. but the right lane is blocked emergency crews. chris and kathryn. >> thanks for the update. it's 6:02. we are following several breaking stories this morning. first in norwood war police officer was hit -- war police officer was hit-- where a police office wears hit during a traffic stop who is now at the hospital being treated for mondayor -- minor injuries. the driver refused to get out

the office wert door or mirror knock him to the ground. that's when chase began. police had to use stop sticks to end it. two men way rested. arrested. breaking news in mansfield. one person was egeeked from a car after a rollover crash. no word how bad the injuries attleboro sun kron cal reports the vehicle may have been going 100 miles an hour when -- sun chronicle reports the vehicle may have been going 100 miles an hour when it crashed. susie steimle is live with the latest on the what can you tell us. >> reporter: i can tell you in this case police have not made any arrest. this happened around 1:40 this morning. we have ed by vow -- video from the scene when police were blocking off washington street. a man was shot and killed and pronounced dead on arrival. the medical examiner was here for a couple hours as well. homicide detectives were canvassing the neighborhood

to figure out what happened. not a lot of details at this . but they anticipate being able to release a little more information around 8:00. we are live in dorchester, susie steimle wbz this morning. >> thanks for the update. we are following a developing story this morning. police investigating what appears to be a murder-suicide at a home in peabody. nicole jacobs is live on the scene. what led police to the house. >> reporter: chris, the victim in this case we are told was actually on the phone with a relative in brazil when that relative reck. >> ied something was -- reck did -- relative recognized something was wrong. police arrived and found the man dead as well as the man they believe is responsible for carrying out the crime. all of this while residents are stunned at the violence. police tape surround the area where tragedy struck tuesday night. >> really close. i mean you wouldn't expect to be this close but i guess i don't know anything is possible now right.

relatives of the 51-year-old woman alerted authorities. >> she was on the phone with a relative in brazil and that relative heard a commotion and altercation and the line went dead. >> reporter: they arrive at the death. self-inflicted stab wounds. >> on the steps to the house here at 11 it appears outside the home. >> a lot of it goes on anywhere now. it doesn't matter where you live don't think anymore. each the small towns have it now so it's not good. >> reporter: the motive for now is unclear. although neighbors point to a boyfriend possibly disgruntled over a break-up. police have not identified the woman in this case who is the victim and the man they believe carried out the crime. they do say that they have not received previous calls domestic wise to this home. live in peabody nicole jacobs wbz this morning. >> thank you.

trial will be made public. a federal judge just order the release of more than 600 court filings and exhibits in the case against dzhokhar tsarnaev. it includes fbi interviews and search warrants and dna reports. a stand off at a wildlife refuge in oregon is over this morning. one person is dead and several others under arrest. shots were fired when federal and state authorities intercepted the armed group during a traffic stop. the group was apparently heading to a community meeting. one of the group members was shot and killed and another one wounded. leader ammon bendy and 7 others were arrestedch the group took over the refuge on january 2nd as part of a dispute over the federal management of public land. it's unclear if anyone else isholed up. two people killed three wounded in a shooting at homeless came in seattle. all victims lived at encampment known as the jungle. police are look for two people

>> we need to check forecast. >> have you heard ethan running mom. >> yeah he has mama and dada. >> he will be on that and much more soon enough. current temperatures in the lower 40s out the door right now a warm start. by january standards. typically in the morning, we should be in the 20s. so it's warm. 36 in worcester and cooler there. a bit of a wind but the real feel is upper 20s in the coldest spots so we can handle this. 35 in boston couple showers out there right now. let's zoom into the northern side of them through plymouth back down in the south side of middleboro and freetown moving to the east southeast. and there's light showers too a. pockets of rain from providencetown back to the islands. these will clear the coast loon by the time we get to mid to late morning on nantucket and chatham. look at that hour by hour timeline in a second. snow showers lake-effect measuring the snow doing so in inches across western new york.

cape and islands by the time we get to 8, 9:00, pushing back down to the cape, look at the snow that may mix in. we may get a couple wet flakes that try to come down with it. no impact. don't be caught off guard if you see a couple flakes mixing in. the trend is for increase being sunshine. it -- increasing sunshine. the wind will be a little active gusting over 20 miles per hour. and a little cold front comes in later on today. can't rule out an isolated sprinkle or flurry wouldn't be a big deal. isolated just that. sunshine starts tomorrow morning and we get an increase in clouds. that's how we had two disturbances we have a disturbance from the great lakes and moisture out over the oceanch the question was how quickly would the two link up and looks like they will link up too late to cause significant snowfall in new england. we can expect clouds on friday morning and a chance of a brief rain or snow shower as we head into friday afternoon and evening. in the meantime, temperatures in the 40s today. so pretty much what you see is

i am not -- it's not going up that much through the course of the afternoon. tonight we do dip below freezing. so my one concern is with the melting that continues we had some yesterday coming into the 50s, and then a refreeze tonight. we may get a couple icy patches sidewalks driveways and things untreated. 28 overnight in boston. and tomorrow, 40 to 45 for most of us. again another above average day and that's the trend here. we are in a pattern that features above average temperatures on through the 7- day forecast. upper 30s on friday, and saturday upper 30s looking good to start the week and partly sunny. we jump up by 10 degrees on sunday. pleasant second half of the weekend. 5 # on monday could be a -- 52 on monday. could be a couple rain showers and 40s on tuesday. traffic and weather together how is it looking. >> reporter: we have plenty of slow downs north and south of the city. checking north of the live look over 93 and somerville. 93 southbound has one bumper to bumper pocket between commerce

route 3 southbound heavy and slow between trouble cove and to the south expressway stop and go from the square to columbia road. 10 minute backup. hang up between logan express and the split. and then that box truck fire out in westward causing slow downs. 495 northbound after boston road the right lane is blocked there. guys. >> thanks very much. a flying tire is being blamed for a deadly crash on 128 in lexington. investigators say the tire flew off a pickup truck in the southbound lane of 128. and smashed into a toyota camry heading north. that car's driver was killed. >> i never in a thousand years would have guessed it was tire that flew across. chances of that happening are probably even less than getting struck by lightning. >> can't predict what's going to happen right. >> scary. >> yeah. >> a 19-year-old woman was drive the pickup truck but it's registered to a man in

and another deadly accident in south boston -- deadly accident in south boston war 66- year-old man -- where a 6 of- year-old man -- 6-year-old -- 66-year-old and was hit and killed. the driver did stop and iscooperating with police. president obama calling for more research into the zika virus with a hope of developing a treatment. he med with the public health official as national security team about the virus which is believed to be linked to birth defects to now borns in mothers who are infect. u.s. officials recommended pregnant women avoid traveling to areas where there are outbreaks. and two u.s. airlines are offering refunds to passengers worried about the zika virus. united airlines says customers who have booked trips can reschedule or get refunds. american airlines will give refunds to pregnant women who were set to travel. on the "healthwatch" a push to make sure moms get the medical treatment they need

a government panel is recommending all women be screened for depression during pregnancy and then after giving birth. all though the condition is drastically underdiagnosed mental health experts believe asmany as one out of seven women suffer from depression beginning in pregnancy and continues postpartum. one of the first debates in newton over a proposal to start school later. school district committee members are considering starting as late as 9 a.m. right now the start time is 7:40 and 7:50 a.m. some students have shown that later start time have given students more sleep and less stress but the students we spoke to last night were concerned about conflicts with after school activities. >> i agree we need more sleep, but i don't think starting school later would help that because then school would be pushed back later and sports would be pushed back. so then you have to get your homework done until later and you wouldn't get anymore sleep

there are plenty of backups. check the north with a live look over route 1 in saugus. route 1 southbound bumper to bumper between main street and route 99. 93 southbound jammed wilmington to woburn taking 25 minutes. and hitting heavy traffic again rose velt -- roosevelt circle to the leverett connector. 128 southbound heavy between logan express and split and route 3 north looks sluggish union street to the split. chris. >> thanks very much. we are following several breaking news stories for you this morning. we begin in norwood where a police officer was hit during a traffic stop. that officer is being treat at the hospital for minor injuries. the officer pulled over a truck look for someone wanted on several warrantsch driver refused to get out and took off hitting officer with a door or mirror knock him to the ground. a chase began and police used stop sticks to end it.

and breaking news in mansfield. police investigating a rollover crash there. one person was ejected. the vehicle may have been going about a hundred miles an hour when it hit part of a bridge. breaking this morning in dore chester's man shot to death early this morning. >> susie steimle is live with the latest. >> reporter: police have been quiet about the investigation overnight. all we know is a man was shot here on washington street around 1:40 this morning. our camera weres were on the -- our cameras were on the street. police shut down the street war man was shot outside in the middle of the night prompting homicide investigators to spend several hurst here canvassing the neighborhood and stopping a number of neighbors to talk with them to see if they can provide more information as to what happened here overnight.

able to release more information around 8 this morning. and at this point we know that no arrests have been made. live in dorchester, susie steimle wbz this morning. we are following a developing story this morning. police investigating what appears to be a murder-suicide at a home in peabody. nicole jacobs is live on the scene with more on what we know. good morning nicole. >> reporter: good morning to youkathryn. we are told the victim was on the phone with relatives when the phone line went dead. that's when they knew something was wrong. that's what alerted police to the home. i want to get you to video from last night it happened here on winter street. 11 winter street. police arrived here to find a 51-year-old woman dead of stab wounds and unidentified man dead of self-inflicted stab wounds. police say it was an international phone call with relatives that alerted them to the the home.

relative in brazil that relative heard a commotion and altercation and the line went dead. >> reporter: again police arrived found the woman and the man actually on the front porch they have not been eye dent toyed but according to police -- identified but according to police they have not been called to this home for domestic issues before yesterday. live in peabody nicole jacobs wbz this morning. >> thanks very much. 6:35 right now. a local cabdriver credited for grabbing a gun out of a man's hand after firing shots at a boston hotel. it started what taj employee tried to stop andrew flack from walking out of the hotel with a drink e stormed outside and fired the gun and took off in a cab. the driver took the weapon from him after he fired it in the cab. dollar bail. it took more than 24 hours to put out the fire in a water

crews used a crane to remove slabs of concrete from where the fire was burning deep underground. it started in an explosion on monday. five workers suffered minor injuries. over to campaign 2016. donald trump says he will skip tomorrow night's republican debate. the gop front hundreder has an issue with fox news network and one of the moderators. this morning our jon keller looks at the latest move by trump. >> reporter: good morning. i have a shocking confession to make. my analysis always sincere doesn't always turn out to be right. i know you are thinking it's hard to believe but it's true. in fact, i predicted last summer that the donald trump boomlet would not survive the fall and i said i would eat my script if i were wrong. even mixed with a nice salad and some tangy cesar dressing it was not a tasty lunch. i have another prepredict that may turn out -- prediction to make that may turn out to be

with politics and human nature. in spite of his promise to skip thursday night's nationally televised gop debate after a spat with the debate organizers fox news, donald trump will in fact be there. as we pointed out last night on the 11:00 news, almost immediately after canceling out of the debate in a huff, trump was softening the antifox red ribbing. this leaves the door opened for the network to back down a bit as well. watch for conciliatory rhetoric and a dramatic 11th hour decision by trum to show up after all-- trump to show up they get astronomical ratings and he gets the new psycheled dominance he wants through thursday at least. everyone comes out a winner he except poor forgotten ted cruz. sorry ted, you're playing checkers and trump is playing chess. i could be wrong about this and i am sure i will hear about it from you if i am, but i've

so pretty mild by temperatures by january standards. we should typically be in the 20s in the morning and most of us are waking up to 30s and lower 40s. 41 lawrence and 36 one of the cooler spots in worcester a bit of a wind. notice it today creating a little bit of a real feel. but even this not too bad right. 28 the real feel in worcester and mid-30s coming into the city of boston. live radar a couple showers this morning. leading edge maybe a quick spritz in the north side of marshfield coming near plymouth and duxbury and light pockets rain from the south coast to bristol county and back to the cape so you want umbrella or raincoat. these are moving to the east you will notice. we will clear the coastline by the time we get to mid to late morning. in the meantime, lake-effect snow bands are getting dumped on the east side of lake erie and ontario. measuring a foot by the time the late morning is done. for us, clearing skies increasing sunshine comes in.
