>> reporter: could you feel a bang? do you -- did you feel a bang or a bump. >> yes. >> reporter: did you hurt yourself? >> yes. >> my phone was beeping and i just came here and there was her-- i am sorry. >> reporter: your daughter was on the bus. >> 6 years old. >> reporter: is she okay. >> she is okay. >> reporter: you know the driver of the vehicle. >> yes i do. >> reporter: can you tell us about her did you see her get out of the car in. >> when i got here she was out of the car. so i just helped her back into the car and until medics came to take her to the hospital. >> reporter: you can only imagine how frightening the initial moments were for parents and many of them for coming to the scene here to check on their children. again 10 student went to the hospital they are elementary aged children only minorly injured. we are told bumps and bruise and many of them are now out of the hospital.

the bus checked out but is okay. the remaining students on board were pecked up by a secondschool bus and driven home. we are live in framingham cruelly loncich now back you. also breaking on the zika virus a first case confirmed in boston. a person who traveled to a country where the virus is spreading contracted it there and then came back to boston. the person is expected to recover. there are thousands of suspected cases of the virus in latin america and in the caribbean and something we have been following over the past couple days. dr. mallika marshall is here and the question i always have should we be freaking out about this? >> reporter: no you shouldn't be freaking out. this is kind of what we expected. people travel all over the world and there are more than 20 countries included in the sort of at-risk list and so people are going to be traveling to the regions and coming back to home and including massachusetts and new england. and this is a man so he is

their two kids and 11-year-old step daughter. 35-year-old marty mcdonald was led into court the familiar live julie meede cringed and her father wept as the prosecutor described the brutal murder and 911 call from her 11- year-old daughter. >> indicateing that her mother had just been stabbed by her stepfather and they found 34- year-old julie meede appeared to be have been severely beatened and stabbed multiple times. >> reporter: she lived here with her three daughters. a 9 month old and 3-year-old were fathered by marty mcdonald. the couple had been having problems and they were separated but neighbors had no inkling of what was possible. >> never had any incident you you know hour before what happened i waved to him and never thought anything was wrong. >> reporter: last night mcdonald snapped then beat and stabbed his wife in front of three kid. kids. >> then at some point took out a knife and stabbed her

girl then indicated she tried to call 911 at which time the defendant struck her in the head area and took her phone so she couldn't call 9 len. >> reporter: renee lives next door. >> knowing that he would do is mind blowing. >> reporter: after the murder he crashed his truck and apparently confessed to a state trooper. >> the trooper insquired as to what was -- inquired as to what was going on and he said i just killed my wife. >> reporter: a court psychiatrist testified he knew what was going on in court and knew the charges and he has been ordered to undergo a 20- day psych evaluation. in norton bill shields wbd news -- wbz news. >> some people may see rain or snow showers during the drive to work tomorrow. eric fisher is tracking it and we are happy with the temperatures we have been seeing. >> it's been comfortable to say the least. we are in the middle of the coldest time of the year and it hasn't felt like it. we are watching two storm

first from 1974 to 1984. and it ended when he attacked his ex-wife's lover. he was reelected mayor in 1990. starting an era which he is credited with transforming providence and the downtown. he resigned again in 2002 after being convicted of federal corruption charges and went to prison for four years. he ran for mayor in 2014 but lost. he had rerecently fought -- recently fought colon cancer he was 74 years old. 30 years ago today, our excitement turned to sadness as the space shuttle challenger exploded shortly after lift off. 7 astronauts died including christa mcauliffe the framingham native and concord new hampshire woman who was going tonight first teacher in space. we remember that smile. she wanted to travel abore the shuttle to spread her -- aboard the shutel to spread her love of education and teaching further. she never made it to space her enthusiasm for learning lives

beth germano takes a closer look. >> today is the 30th anniversary of the explosion. >> reporter: 5th grade teacher kristin jakes can give this history lesson from personal experience. as her student study a biography of the christa mcauliffe. >> christa herself just as a person left a mark on people. >> reporter: and on her. christa mcauliffe the first teacher in space was her social studies teacher at concord new hampshire high school and she remembers the excitement watching the challenger lawnch with fellow students. the confusion and then tragedy. >> that time we were not watching launches and we didn't know what to expect. and then there was hope they were parachuteers coming out. the idea was to get the program reeper jized. >> reporter: -- reenergizeed. >> reporter: mcauliffe shared her training and the experience least mark now kristin has followed in her footsteps.

and she brought the best out of everyone. >> reporter: when mcauliffe was finalist for the program, she told me in an interview about the inthews a for teaching and from space. >> i think i've always been a risk taker and like to do things he had a venturesome and i am hoping that it generates a lot more excitement in the education process and gibbs teachers a more positive -- road. >> kids would be in the black of the class that didn't want to be there and she got them participating. she brought the best out of them and i thought that's a talent to be able to do. >> reporter: and a model she has adopted for herself. >> yes. good. >> reporter: krista -- christa mcauliffe is i touched the feature and there for i teach not just christin but other student have gone into teaching. >> he think we remember where we were. it's one of the moments it was

here were so excited especially school children. you were at the high school in concord new hampshire watching with students there what was that like. >> reporter: there were reporters there that day but it was a party atmosphere. the launch actually had been scrubbed once before and this was the day challenger was going up. concord new hampshire high school auditorium was packed with students and balloon and confetti and a party atmosphere but when challenger went up they were clapping and cheering so loudly no one understood what happened until a teacher yelled something was wrong this was confusion and there was not a lot of information. reporters look myself were immediately asked to leave the school and theyushered the students out and -- they ushered the student out and no one could figure out what happened but they rallied around and protected the kid in the coming days. rallied around the staff to help them deal with the aftermath. it's a moment you don't forget and hearing her words today is a moving thing to hear the words again. >> it is.

warmer on the second for groundhog day and look at the difference on february 3rd. 22 degrees last year and forecasting 60 this time around. so a huge difference people are saying we are going to pay for it and i say we paid up front and paid last winter and this is the balancing out of the extremes. temperatures are in the 30s tonight and 30 in hyannis one of the cold spots and we watch a storm system around the southeast atlantic coast. that's moving northward as we head through the improver night hours. there's a disturbance across the great lakes starting to swinging in and they will meet here in southern new england as we head into the day tomorrow. for tonight, we stay in the upper 20s and increasing clouds and late snow flakes towards form tomorrow morning. look towards-- towards tomorrow morning. this is where snow will break out for the morning drive. the model doesn't have it and he think it is wrong. i think we will have rain and snow showers continuing into the afternoon before it wind down heading into the evening.

doesn't look like a big convenient not expecting a lot of wind and major issues but there's burst of rain and snow especially in the central and eastern end of the state and that can lead to a coating to as much as an inch of snowfall. temperatures warm enough where it won't add up too much. this will be areas of slow and snow. low 30s out the door. by midday upper 30s and meeting that falls as a wet sloppy snow and won't add up too quickly. wind will switch around northwesterly bringing in the drier air as we continue to dry out for friday night. so all this mess will be moving out to sea and off toward the east. looking at weekend and the next system is to the north. snow showers in northern new england and good knees for the ski areas and a quiet day. and then on sunday, we break into the sunshine southwesterly winds and we warm sprurs for this time of the year -- war temperatures for the this time of the year. saturday is fine. sunday approaching 50 a brighter afternoon and a great day to be outdoors all the snow

isaiah thomas is headed to toronto to play in the first ever all star game. he was started practicing after twisting his ankle celebrating with teammates during win over the nuggets at garden. he did say he will be okay and won't miss any games. thomas admitted he was nervous about tonight's announcement but feels worthy of the honor. averaging over 21 points and 6 assists a game. >> i just work so hard and i feel look i deserve it. not just the individual success but as team we are 5th in the east and we have been winning and we are playing at a high level right now. so i just feel like and on top of that the numbers don't lie. >> i feel like he put a lot work in this year and pee personally i am sure i can speak for our team we all want him to make it because we see what isaiah does every day how he prepares for each game and how hard he works and he deserves to be rewarded to make
