gunpointing it at an osar bill shields is live with the latest. what can you tell. >> reporter: this happened about 8 this morning and this is an active scene. you will see the investigators from the essex county da office is here along with state police and the local police. this started really as a routine and there's no such thing as routine traffic stop they tried to pull over the dark car on corner and well, that driver apparently started to shoot at police. >> shots fired. shots fired. >> shots fired. >> shots fired. >> shots fired. >> i got the gun. >> reporter: judging from the markers on the street, it was a virtual shootout. source indicate a lynn police officer tried to pull over a man in this dark colored car. he apparently pulled a gun and started to shoot. cop returned fire killing the suspect.

western avenue in a rest --happening on western avenue in a residential area. >> how many did you hear? >> 7 or 8. >> reporter: did you see >> no. anything. >> no i am just came into the windows and i see the cops and the lady down there that's it. >> reporter: back live now this is still a very fluid scene ace said investigators still going over all the evidence and all the shell caseings that are on the street and again that suspect has not been identified is deceased. reporting live, bill shields wbz news back to to you guys. >> thanks. also breaking right now, insomerville the search for an escaped prisoner is over. gape yell castillo perez escaped after being picked up as a massive raid in and around boston. this morning he was rate ofed in everettt. perez is a known gang member and was picked up on immigration charges during the early morning raid. 55 other people were also arrested. many facing drug and weapons charges.

thisnoon a store clerk slashed by a thief and customers sprang into action. susie sometimeel is live with more on how this unfolded. good afternoon. chris. this 7-eleven in brookline was closed earlier this morning and it has since reopened and thanks in large part to a couple of good samaritans who stepped up this morning and helped out that clerk. around 7 this morning a man came in and attacked the clerk cutter. he was able to cut up his face a little bit but thankfully two customers saw this happening and sprang into action and pulled that man off the clerk. the clerk was taken to beth israel hospital with minor injuries and he is expected to be just okay as for that suspect, he is being charged way salt and battery with a dangerous weapon because the two civilians were able to hold him until police arrived. it has been a tough week in brookline with the stabbing and shooting that we have been covering all week. police are thanking the public

taking a closer look at the charred remains you can see how intense the fire was. tucked away on wiley street in groton a little red house many on the rural street recall telling us off camera the couple once had horses and seeing the now charred home and the story behind it makes this day a sad one. >> during the course of the fire, we did discover that two fatalities had occurred. >> reporter: a deadly fire, the two people inside have not officially been identified. we know they were found on the first floor when crews arrived. along with the incredibly difficult conditions. >> due to the amount of fire and also the advance stages of fire the building was compromised and we weren't able to send firefighters inside to try to make any sort of rescue attempts. >> reporter: fire leaping from all front windows the chief says. crews from multiple departments putting forth extensive efforts

burning with the two adults unable to get out is not known. people believed to be family arriving at the scene too saddened to speak looking on at what's now destroyed. that little red house and those inside gone. state and local fire officials are investigating trying to determine exactly what started this fire. in groton nicole jacobs wbz news. new at noon, lawyers for boston mayorton bomber dzhokhar tsarnaev have officially appealed the conviction and sentence with the u.s. court of appeals. his lawyers are also appearing the recent ruling that tsarnaev paid -- pay 101 million in restitution to the victims. earlier this month a judge denied his bid for a new trial. the first case of the zika virus confirmed here in massachusetts. the state health department has not identified the patient. they say he's boston man who contracted the virus abroad.

we are following breaking news out of somerville. an escaped prisoner captured hours after he managed to break free from fred rail authorities. paul burton is live with an -- federal authorities. paul burton is live with the latest. >> reporter: police wrapped up the press conference five minutes ago and the than me cr -- the man they were look for a known gang member is under arrest. gabriel perez was arrested around everettt after escaping and running from officers during a homeland security sweep. police and federal off thers arrested 56 people in the boston area for gun drug and criminal charges. perez was arrested on criminal activity and immigration offenses.

we want the snow. boston 39. real feel temperature 32. mixing in the wind from the west at 12 miles per hour makes a bit of a difference out there. so wind chill is a factor. current temperatures running in the 30s or 40s here. 44 degrees taunton. 43 falmouth. chatham 42 and comfortable. average high should only be 36 and we will be above it in the hour by hour forecast. temperatures in the upper 30s mid-30s for the rest of the evening. overnight dropping to 30 degrees and with many location in the suburbs reaching the mid- 20s because we expect the skies to clear overnight radiational cooling and a chilly start to the saturday. and high temperatures rebound nicely. we have low to mid-40s for a lot of areas here. 41 boston and 42 bedford and 42 degrees in lawrence and a great set up for the jimmy fun snow challenge at ski valley in the ski area 39 degrees.
