>> 6:00 right now good morning. i am kathryn hauser. >> i am chris mckinnon it's thursday february 11 and we want to get you to danielle nice who is looking at cold weather. >> the weekend will be brutal. temperatures in the teens. that may be a little generous on valentine's day. the temperature right now is 26 in boston and 19 taunton 19 nashua a bit of a wind creating real feel running 7 degrees in worcester. 15 in the city teens from lawrence to falmouth and clouds are filling back in. there's snow showers and some steadier squalls back across eastern long island and eastern connecticut that will miss us to the south. but we have got a cold front coming in so scattered snow showers and squalls develop today just like yesterday. not everyone sees them. but there may be a quick coating to an inch possible and a few communities reduced visibility and a few slick spots that may result. aid blend of sun and clouds this morning. 6:47rise. snow showers will be most numerous through the lunch hour until about early evening and

a chance of a light snow shower heading into the commute home. let's check the roads traffic and weather together. >> there's an accident blocking the left lane of 24 northbound in bridgewater just before 495. cars are directed off the road to the left and right. it's about a 6 minute delay through the stretch right now. if you have to take the expressway now is the time to go with stop and go between granite avenue and columbia road but you know it's going to get a lot worse heading through the hour. and north of town volume build on route 3 between exit 30 and trouble cove road. part of the mass pike shut down after a truck slammed into a bridge abutment in sturbridge. the cab sheered off and the driver was flown to the hospital with serious injuries. mass do -- dot inspectors are checking the overpass for damage. all lanes of the pike are now opened. dramatic surveillance video of a hit-and-run and we are hearing from the man who clung

windshield wiper terrified for his life. that crash isn't him to the hospital. >> right now police are trying to track down the driver who injured the man. nicole jacobs is live with reaction from the victim. >> reporter: speaking with woburn police we are told yes the man who was driving the car morning. in the meantime the man hanging on says he did so for so long because he knew if he let go, he would be dead. without a second to think. >> which the -- by the time i seen the car the car was dead center on me. >> reporter: nor a moment to spare. >> i just got on the hood and held on for dear hive. >> reporter: fred pica was in a death grip he never saw coming. >> i begged him please, please, just stop and let me off your car. please. >> reporter: according to police, tyson delgado was behind the wheel. surveillance images and those etched in pica's mind tell the story.

phone -- talking on the cell phone. >> reporter: the 65-year-old lost his hold and delgado immediately took off. he was already wanted by police for a larceny and assault on an officer hours earlier. they searched for him only finding the car he ditched. >> i am a very lucky person. >> reporter: leaving pica grateful he is only nursing a broken foot and mental scars not soon to be erased. >> people think they don't have no courtesy for nobody else. >> reporter: and at this hour again we are told a driver of the car delgado, is still on the loose this morning. anyone with information is urged to contact wobeen police. nicole jake -- woburn police. any coke jakeons. -- jake -- nicole jacobs. three men in custody following a tense stand off. they robbed a store clerk in dorchester and barricaded

a hostage negotiator helped end the stand off. all three are facing armed robbery charges. about -- charges. a shooting investigation underway in wareham. police found a 70-year-old man dead in his home on glenn charley road on tuesday. officers say john williams had been shot several times. they say they don't believe there is any threat to the public. police in maryland say two sheriff deputies shot and killed at a panera restaurant outside baltimore may have been targeted. one of the deputies was killed inside the restaurantch the other was killed in a gun fight with the 68-year-old shooter who was also killed. the families of whitey bulger's murder victims reportedly offered a financial settlement. a 16 families could split 822,000 dollars. money found in bulger's california apartment when he was captured. and tell split proceeds from an

the catch they can never sue the governmentch the families have until february 28th to sign the deal. a stand off at a oregon wildlife refuge could come to a end. the last four hold outs say they will turn themselves in. they seized control control of the building -- control of the january. the father of amon bund -- ammon bundy was arrested. prosecutors are deciding whether to retry a man freed after 30 years in prison. george perrot was released yesterday in new bedford. he was convicted of rape in 1985 an though the victim claims someone else attacked her. the key piece of evidence was a single strand of hair at the crime creep but the method the fbi used to link it to perrot has been discredited. after 30 years in prison perrot admits he lost hope. >> absolutely i been in prison

>> reporter: i am excited about this. i have no complaints other than the fact that i am getting to know a different side of the two ofyou in the studio who want me to pull extreme events. yesterday i was told to jump on the back of the truck you want. want me to slide down this thing which i am saying no way. i will say i'm snow border and all be it not very good but when's intimidating about this ramp is not necessarily the top of it but the bottom of it. if you look closely and i am eyeballing there's only about 30 or 40 feet of flat space for athletes to stop after launching off the huge ramp and getting big air which is of course the name of the event. this is big air fenway. it's a skiing and snow boarding free style competition. thankfully the men and women participating in this are professionals. a number of them are trying to compete in the 2018 olympics in south korea. some of the best athletes at this type of support in the

#:24 on your thursday morning. harvard university received a -- 6:24 on your thursday morning. harvard university received a record number of am cakes more than 39,000. that's 5% from last year. harvard says the boost comes amid new efforts to reach out to lower income students. applicants will find out by march 1st if they have been accepted. last year harvard only accepted about 5% of the applications. and a warning for bu students if you have a jacket like this. thieves may be targeting you. boston university police say they have received more than a dozen reports of clothing thefts in september. -- since september and most involve canada goose jackets. the jackets are expensive andcan cost as much as $1300 many most thefts happened in the gym. gas station owners on alert. someone is planting skimming devices on the pumps. the first was found in hingham and more in bridgewater and

getting inappropriate material sent to them. and police are working to track the person down and urging all parents to talk with their kids about the use of social media and say they should never accept anything from someone they don't know. a major drug bust in boston. 5 pounds of heroin taken off the streets. state police say two men tried to sell more than 200 grams of heroin to a undercover trooper. the men had been under investigation as traffickers since last october. they will be in court next month. a crime caught on camera. a new hampshire convenience store clerk fighting off an armed rob remember. the -- robber. the masked man came into the market tuesday and showed a gun. at first, the clerk cooperated and started emptying out of register and the thief came closer to the clerk and the clerk realized that gun was a fake. >> right then and there i was kind of turned the tables where i know this guy is just probably nervous too and he is in a panic but i am not going

trying to do. so, then i ran over the counter and i tackled him and got him pretty good a couple times. >> you see the robber takes off out the door. this was the first of two robberies in manchester on tuesday night. the second just minutes later at another market a mile away. the suspect descriptions are similar and detectives are trying to figure out if the two crimes are related. >> a guilty-- a guilty plea from a former middle school lunch lady charged with raping a 15-year- old boy. janelle foley assault the boy during thanksgiving and new year's party at the family's home. she pleaded guilty to five counts of rape and now faces up to 4 1/2 years in prison. investigators in fitchburg are looking into the cause of a deadly fire that culled a woman and -- killed a woman and badly injured her brother and sister. the surviving siblings are at the hospital.

a legal battle in ferguson missouri. council voted to change the terms of a deal with the federal government for police reform in the is city there. city leaders say they modified the plan because of costs. but the justice department is now suing over the changes and this all comes in the wake of racial tension in the city following the shooting death of michael brown by a police officer. robert kennedy's killer will remain locked up. a parole board in california yesterday denied the request for release. he shot and killed kennedy in 1968. this is the 15th time he has been denied parole. 6:37 on your thursday morning and time for the daily talker and today we are talking about a new push to curb jaywalking. >> the senate majority leader wants to increase the fines. under the current law sent set in 19629 fine for jaywalking in boston is a dollar.

is very much here and incredible unique way at fenway park. look at that. this reaches 140 feet up into the air towering way over and dar of-- dwarfing the grown monster and it's man-made scaffolding for the big air free style snow boarding and skiing competition taking place tonight at 6 p.m. and tomorrow night at 6 p.m. as well. the athletes are some of the best in the world at what they do. they will get two passes to go through this ramp and show off to the judges. a number of the athletes hope the competitions like this will get them the bid into the 2018 olympics in south korea. this is a new event for the olympics. big air skiing and snow boarding competition has never been recognized by wint are olympics and will be in 2018

on the way for the weekend especially by time we get to valentine's day single digits and teens without the wind factored in. this morning 20 degrees in rye new hampshire. 21 at littleton middle school and 22 degrees. kind of uniformed most us in the teens to lower 20s out the doors on a touch milder at 26 in boston right now. so it's a chilly start. there's been flurries and snow showers across the coastline of connecticut and through long island. we won't get hit with these. they will pass to the south. but there is a cold front coming in later today. so just like yesterday, we will get scattered snow showers that fire up from late morning through the afternoon. so he there will be flurries and a dusting here or there and some of the deal deeper blues indicate a steadier area snow reduced visibility just like yesterday. not everyone will see them but where they come through a coating to as much as an inch
