wbz news at 10 starts right now. -- starts right now. would begin with the trained in the dangerously cold weather. rescue crews -- there were 41 people stuck on one trams. seven people on the other. they were between 50 and 75 feet from the terminals. it took rescuers to help these people. repelling down from the trends. admin chemical issue -- a mechanical issue cause the lockup. subzero temperatures and wind chills more than 30 below and the temperature will drop again tonight here that those elected blankets ready tonight. we have not seen code like this in more than half a century. we do have live team coverage tonight.

it is ever so cold. more than a week ago, this is the coldest there i can remember coming down from canada. it was going to be a direct shot and eps directly last night -- it hit us directly last night. nine below which is historic in boston. the lowest since 1957. when it was 12 below. record by 5 degrees. the boston record by 6 degrees setback in 1934. we got back down to nine is mine this morning making this record. right now, it is a mild 11 degrees but it still feels like 5 degrees below.

transformer blowing up leading to a fire. all of this on the coldest day in decades leading to no electricity and no heat. >> now, we have no power and it is called.>> reporter: what is that like? >> for right now, i am putting up with it until it gets really cold. we can sit in the bus and get heated.>> reporter: the situation was serious enough to call in the red cross. >> there are a number of units without heat at the moment. we may have to go to a shelter situation. we are working together to get supplies in case that happens. >> reporter: a huge generator was brought in to supply heat while the work goes on but victor rodriguez is not taking chances. he is leaving with his family.

-- 200 foot section of that water main. this was in one of the corridors. not out on the course and there were no delays. hartford and boston police are searching for a missing man, 24-year-old zachary morrow was last seen last night in samuel hall. his family says he was going out said -- outside to smoke and he vanished. his family says he has never done anything like this before. antonin scalia and his -- the death of anthony scalia is sending shockwaves. the president's constitutional duty to fill that seat and they -- and mark albert has the details.
