forecast, we've got snow coming our way. >> a little bit of everything, warmth, snow, ice, rain, the start is this burst of snow, developed between 4:00 and 8:00 p.m. this evening, may be amounts to top out near three inches across the interior. then we turn icy, across the interior through wednesday morning with select spots. then the warm up comes in after that. temperatures spike to near 60 on thursday with heavy rain and damaging wind coming through early on thursday morning. until then, we're pretty quiet. it's chill kwi out there -- chilly out there, 28 in boston, 16 keene lower 20s manchester, across new england. and the clouds advancing in, a little bit of sunshine, sunrise coming in 29 minutes from now. this is going to be the brightest time of the day because the clouds thicken up 38 by lunch time. wind coming off the ocean, a bit of a breeze making it feel colder. 36 for the ride home. snow develops, shouldn't cause any headaches for the beginning

breaking news overnait, a 4-year-old -- overnight, a 4-year-old boy wandering in roxbury, someone spotted the called police. ems evaluated the boy then medical center. >> more breaking news right now, a bomb threat leading to increased security at two schools in chatham today. there will be spreks police on -- extra police on hand at chatham and montmoy. students were evacuated but nothing was found. this is inside their home. >> and this is just the latest in a series of hoverboard fires across the country. susie steimle is live in susie? >> reporter: well, chris and kathryn, you know these stories about hoverboards catching fire have been in the news for several months, particularly as they became one of the most popular toys over the christmas and holiday season. this is just another example of

and that's that the regulations has yet to catch up with the technology of these hoverboards. so parents and kids who have them need to be careful. take a look at these pictures from this fire that broke out in chelmsford last night. an 11 -year-old boy was riding this hoverboard around his family's living room when it caught fire. we know that ordinarily that combustibility with these hoverboards is due to the lithium batteries inside of them overheating. that's why in some cases, cnet has warned consumers about purchasing a hoverboard less than $300, we know parents have also been told never to leave these hoverboards unattended whiem they are -- while they are charging so they would be ever at risk of overheating while you're in the room. there are a number of airlines who have banned these devices on this. at least in this case we know this little boy was not hurt. but still certainly a scare in the series of scares with this

we're live in chelmsford, susie steimle, wbz "this morning" a cambridge police officer accused of hitting a bicyclist with his car and then fleeing the scene, cambridge police aren't releasing the officer's name but tell us he was off duty, out of uniform, and in his own car sunday night when he allegedly hit a woman on a bike in kendall square. police tell us a witness got the license plate number which led them to the officer the bicyclist in her 30s spent the night at mass general hospital with head and neck injuries. the police will decide whether the policeman will face charges. . police tellase 19-year-old driver stopped it at the scene after hitting a 76-year-old man, they goelth doent believe he was speeding. and a new search for answers in the search for zachary mar from massachusetts. his family tells us divers will

>> and now that scene could be recreated for a hollywood film, nicole jacobs live in water town with the details, nicole? >> reporter: chris and kathryn, recreating those scenes could happen we're told overnight. and that's according to a local paper here. it could include simulations of the gun fire as well as other loud noises but the big question here is wlo that would fly with residents here -- here is whether that would fly with residents here who have been through much. it was the backdrop of the shootout where dzhokhar and tamerlan retreated after detonating bombs, killing three people and an m.i.t. officer. water town where residents heard the shootout there, the swarms of law enforcement, some of their hopes damaged. they were on lockdown for hours while authorities searched for dzhokhar. that was their reality in april 2013. now hollywood wants to put it on the big screen.

the first part of the commute i think we'll be a-okay but it picks up in intensity, north and west of boston. tomorrow morning's commute, i see north and west of 128 an impact on your commute during the evening tomorrow. a moderate impact of areas of rain and then the heaviest rain early on thursday morning combined with wind. that will slow you down, high impact for the thursday and then much better low impact by thursday evening, with just a couple leftover showers. out there right now, 28 degrees, no weather related issues for your commute, 16 keene, 22 manchester, lawrence right now. any sunshine we have right now is going to be limited, enjoy it while we have it, sunrise 15 minutes from now, the clouds win out later on this morning. our storm coming in two parts. the first part down to the texas. notice how there's a little lull in between.

break down is that burst of snow going to arrive later on today. between now and midday, the clouds to increase and thicken, around 40 degrees, no weather related issues. even by 5:00, snow just starting to advance in the lower connecticut river valley and back down through connecticut. that snow will advance in from south to north between 5:00 and 8:00 p.m. for the most part and then back through the new hampshire border by 9:00, 10:00, the snow will come down at a good clip, notice that rain snow line also works northward. around midnight the city of boston, taking longer. your typical scenario, it's a little colder across the interior. early tomorrow morning, the temperatures very borderline, right around 32 degrees. a slick start, your morning commute impacted. the closer to the coast, northeast or massachusetts, 40 degrees with showers tapering off for a bit. snowfall totals one to three

the closer you get to the coast coating to an this much and then close to the cape. and then the rain comes back in tomorrow late in the day. the cape and islands exempt from that. the rain fills in, steadily and heavily at times, wednesday night early thursday morning that will ship off the coastline pretty quickly with a much drier second half of the day on thursday, even as early as late morning. we should be doing okay. so projected rainfall totals may be over two inches in some of the deeper reds here across central massachusetts. we may get localized flooding tomorrow night, early thursday. and the wind will be strong as three to 9:00 a.m. on thursday. that's when we may see gusts that exceed 50 miles per hour, some pockets of damage may result from that. the rest of thursday is warm and windy, but not damaging wind during the afternoon. we'll be up around 60. much colder on friday, the weekends looking quiet, sun and clouds, temperatures running in the 40s. by the way, barry had a great school visit from the daniel

right now, police are searching for two men who robbed a chipotle in dartmouth. forcing three employees in to a freezer at gunpoint then demanding two others empty the register. they made off with $300, police are hoping someone will recognize them from the surveillance video and turn them in. >> boston's school superintendent says it's case closed at boston latin. tommy chang has no intention to reopen the investigation, found the school mishandled just one of seven incidents over the past year.

changes. chang reaffirmed his support for the school's head master. the mbta opening up about its huge overtime costs. officials released details yesterday of an audit of their system. it cups after a report -- comes after a report last year showing mbta employees were doubling and tripling their pay with overtime. employeeses were approving their own overtime. the audit found no standard procedure for requesting, approving, and documenting overtime. the t says they want to change that. and the mbta also said its scheduling a vote for next month on its potential fare hike, two plans which would raise prices between 7 and 10%, the mbta held a series of hearings and received 3,000 comments online, those hikes. still lots more to come in our next half hour, including our daily talker. >> why more and more hospitals

this is the latest in a series of hoverboard fires across the country. >> susie steimle live in chelmsford with a closer look at that damage, susie? >> reporter: chris and kathryn, as you know, this is hardly the first time we've seen a warning against dangers of this popular toy. and unlikely this will be the last time we hear a story like this. last night there was an 11-year-old boy riding his hoverboard around his family's home when it caught fire. the issue with these hoverboards in the past has likely been the combustibility of the lithium batteries and the ability to catch fire so quickly, this time the boy was riding on it and caused a lot of damage to his family's home. fortunately he was not hurt but this is why the number of airlines have banned these toys from being allowed on board. the expert advice is that you should never leave these devices unattended while they're charging so that they would be

sexual assault suing the comedian for defamation. a 16-year-old dorchester teen held in the stabbing death of a 15-year-old. pope in court yesterday, pope stabbed 15-year-old hopkins in the heart on sunday after hopkins got in a fight with pope's girlfriend. prosecutors say pope approached officers at the scene and said quote, i think i killed someone. pope has a prior record of gun and assault charges. meanwhile, family and friends held the vigil to remember the 15-year-old victim. dion hopkins family says his violence. prosecutors say the uber driver charged in a deadly shooting rampage in michigan has confessed. but they're still trying to figure out dalton's motives. one passenger says he snapped after he got a phone call then started blowing through stop signs and side swiping cars. that passenger got away. authorities say dalton randomly killed six people and wounded

several hours saturday night. uber says dalton had cleared a background check and received high ratings before this incident. right now ride sharing services not regulated in massachusetts, but boston's police commissioner says it's about time uber steps up to better protect riders. yesterday all taxi drivers were being fingerprinted for more in depth checks. commissioner bill evans says uber should do the same. an uber spokesperson says the company does check all drivers' criminal histories and driving records, but claims beyond that it's unnecessary. the water town shootout with the marathon bombers could be recreated on location for hollywood. it was a terrifying night some local residents will never forget. nicole jacobs is live for us in water town with all the details. nicole, good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, kathryn. nearly three years ago residents lived through that nightmare. now with filmmakers wanting to recreate it, it brings it back

i want to get you right to some video that was the reality in this area. it's a film called patriots day starring mark wahlberg. according to the local paper, cbs representative have already been in this neighborhood, surveying it, taking time to talk with residents, really trying to get a sense of whether welcomed here. the water town paper indicates it would be overnight filming, a simulation of sul -- actual noises. cbs films says it would also repay residents for the quote intrusion, coming in, building sets and headaching all that -- making all that noise that they speak of. according to that paper, the process would begin april 25. they would completely move out of here by may 21. but -- may 11. but it would have to be signed off by the city manager and the majority of residents here in water town.

the man accused of sparking a lockdown at u mass amherst without bail this morning, macchione pleaded not guilty to assault charges. the campus went in to lockdown after he attacked a student. a woman turned himself in to police after crashing her car in a norwood starbucks. driving home from work when she hit the guard rail, lost control, and crashed through that starbucks. she initially ran from the scene, officers say drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash. 6:38 right now, time for our daily talker. hospitals are changing the way they care for newborn babies, but not all mothers are in favor of it. >> the days of seeing babies lined up side by side in the nursery may be over, robi's here with more, robi? if the baby is in one of those nurseries, chances are the mom is catching up on zs while

dr. marshall found many are eliminating the nursery and putting them in full-time, rooming in, keeping them in the room just after birth. baths, swaddling, breastfeeding all done with the assistance of a nurse but at the mom's bedside, not the nursery. they've been doing this for 10 years at the request of new mothers, many told them they wanted to be there when their babies were having such things as being weighed or a hearing exam, the nurseries not going away completely, there as an option. as for the mother getting more sleep when the baby is out of the room, a midwife told dr. malika the mother is actually able to snooze more if the baby is near her. interesting reaction from this this morning. let's check out the latest comments coming in. craig on facebook says we roomed in when our twin were born and i wouldn't have had it any other way.

the start of the evening commute is fine. this is the map at 5:00, but as we take it out even further through 7:00, 8:00, the snow is advancing in right along and south of the mass turnpike. back up to the mass new hampshire border. by the time we get to 9:00, 10:00. and there are deep blues here. the snow will come down at pretty good bursts and issues at 495, see where the temperatures do dip at or below freezing? otherwise the rain snow line changes on the cape, right around midnight in to the city of boston or just after midnight. and then early tomorrow morning, there will be some slick spots for your morning drive. keep in mind, right around the freezing mark, just one depiction, bedford 33 degrees, likely slick spots tomorrow morning, 128 points north and west the transition of sleet and freezing rain occurring at that time. by mid morning and late day, that cold air will eventually get scoured out, just takes a little bit of time.

advisory up until noon time for those areas. one to three inches of snow, back out to the cape and then evening. heavy rain downpours tomorrow night in to very early on thursday. by 9:00 a.m., the heaviest shifting off shore. it is an early morning event here. but actually, the rest of the day on thursday looking fine, just a leftover shower thursday night that could mix with a well. projected rainfall amounts, topping out around an inch or two, the heaviest amounts, see that band of red? may feature amounts over two inches with some of the heaviest downpours that come in. the strongest wind is going to coincide with the heaviest rain. this is the forecast with uses, 3:00 a.m. thursday, it ramps up. 3:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. that's where we see gusts that top out over 50 miles per hour, particularly southeastern massachusetts.

morning, a 4-year-old was found wanderingst streets of -- wandering the streets of boston alone. >> someone found the child around 3:00 a.m. and called police, ems evaluated the child then transported them to the medical center. a police officer accused of a hit and run, that officer was off duty when he allegedly hit a woman on a bicycle on kendall square, a witness gave the license plate number which led them to the officer. the cyclist in her 30s recovering from back and neck injuries. the officer on paid leave, investigators are deciding whether to file charges. a fire at a chelmsford home, an 11-year-old boy was using a hoverboard inside his home when it caught fire. and you can see the damage there. a burn mark on the living room floor. wheel missing. no one was hurt, this is just the latest in a series of hoverboard fires nationwide. today nevada will hold its republican caucus.
