specifically reddit.com posts have generated necessities like food deliveries for volunteers trying to get every possible voter. >> we are all jazzed here. you walk into this office and it's an inspiration every day. >> reporter: there are 116 delegates at stake for democrats in massachusetts today. even if hillary clinton gets all those, it's not enough to seal her up as the nominee. coming up at 6, some of the strategy behind bill clinton today. >> and while the race for the democrats may come down to the wire, our polls show donald trump with a huge lead over the rest of the republican field. we have a closer look at the race for the nominations.

big rushes of the day, people stopping in to vote on the way home from work. on the republican side, the candidate with the most visible support we've seen is already leading in the polls on the republican side, donald trump. katie stopped for a snapshot. it's a big day. >> i voted for obama but now i'm disappointed about obama, the thing that he does. so now i think trump can make america great again. >> reporter: she like many in what's largely a liberal state, today motivated by the heated republican race. in some cases, bringing out voters and people who never campaigned before. >> i'm not involved politically. but it's come to a point where i felt i had to do something to try and turn the tables on what's going on. >> i voted for governor kasich. >> donald trump just frightens me to death.

candidates hit massachusetts this super tuesday, they were represented in signs and stickers. our own republican governor was a bit cagey after casting his ballot. >> i said before that i wasn't going to vote for donald trump and i wasn't going to vote for ted cruz, so you can take it from there. >> reporter: all too eager to say he's not voting for donald coming up today. for him or against him, he is today. back to you. >> back in 2008, 1.8 million massachusetts residents cast ballots during the primary and the secretary of state said be broken today.

who benefits most from that? >> would you think i'm a sap if i said democracy benefits? bernie sanders predicted his campaign would struggle if the democratic turnout is low, and i believe him. hillary clinton has the entire local party establishment behind her, people who know how to turn out the vote. and she's got major labor union backing. however, the site of bill clinton working polling places shows you how seriously they're taking this. bernie sanders has support too, as well as a committed core of local activists with proven credentials. in the end it's not the raw turnout as much as it is who it is that's showing up. and we know an unusually high number of democrats dropped their party registration so they could go into the gop primary.

>> reporter: the report confirms the operator of the red line train broke the rules and cut corners, putting a lot of passengers in danger during the morning rush hour. the december 10th incident happened at the red line's braintree station. because of a signaling issue at the stop, 25-year veteran david vasquez stepped off the train to activate bypass mode. when he flipped the switch, the train took off with no one at the helm. the train was stopped by other workers and he was fired immediately. the phone cord had been wrapped around the speed control, which caused the train to take off without vasquez on board. the report proposed moving the bypass so drivers don't have to step off the train. another idea, installing

supervisors can keep an eye on their employees. more information coming up at 6:00. also breaking tonight, the first confirmed case of zika virus in new hampshire. a woman contracted the virus after having sexual contact with a man who had traveled to a country where the virus is prevalent. she is fully recovered and she was not pregnant. gusty winds caused big problems today. boston police say early this morning construction debris blew off a site, breaking windows at a hotel and part of an atrium. nobody was hurt and the area has been cleared. powerful winds knocked a tree into power lines on south street and sparked a brush fire. crews put that out quickly and got the lights back on. tonight rain and a little wintry mix rolling in.

and winter still on the cusp. >> a little back and forth hear in the weather department. clouds increase tonight and a quick-moving weather system is moving in from the west. it's going to run into some marginally cold air. we are in the 30s and we have winter weather advisories for the overnight. i don't think it's going to be a big deal. approaching midnight, we're getting a little light sleet and freezing rain. it only lasts about three hours and we're all rain. we have 50s, rain and gusty winds out the door, but the big changes after a wet morning, we'll see the temperatures drop into the 20s with winds by the evening. so it's a busy wednesday forecast, coming up. new tonight, one man is

a suspicious package left in brockton. this was the scene this afternoon. investigators evacuated that neighborhood and a health center there just after noon today. >> reporter: earlier this entire area was shut down due to a bomb scare. >> it's very scary. >> reporter: s.w.a.t. officers forced people out of main street. >> i drove by the building earlier and called my husband to let him know i was going to go in for my interview, and he said, don't go in, the building is not safe. on.

could come here for shelter, i thought was fantastic. >> reporter: police later took a suspect into custody. people in the neighborhood aren't holding grudges. >> i feel sorry for that person. i think they maybe need to do some changing in their life and seek some help. >> reporter: that suspect's name has not yet been released. hundreds of police officers are showing support for the family of a new hampshire native killed in the line of duty. 28-year-old ashley gwenden was shot saturday responding to a domestic violence call on her first shift as a police officer. today at her funeral, so many people were in the church, many had to stand outside. fellow officers paid tribute to a young woman who dedicated herself to service. >> that was her desire, to

things that mattered, to give her life to something worth giving it to. that's exactly what she did. >> her family plans to bury her next to her father next monday in springfield, massachusetts. sad news after a woman lost her life in this house fire. firefighters rushed to the home on main street about 8:15 to find heavy smoke and flames. investigators are looking for the cause. raising the smoking age in brockton? city leaders talked today about raising it to 21 for smoking and vaping, and talking about banning flavored cigars. no word on when they will vote. tonight at fenway park and a number of other stadiums, smokeless tobacco is off limits. the letters to that effect are up in spring training clubhouses and it's especially important for the rookies because there is no ban on

>> a little bit of hope on the way? absolutely. we talked about the second warmest winter we have had. it was number two to 2001-2002. there's a full post at cbsboston.com if you care to read all that. and we have a storm system off to our west. a lot of mild air on the southern side of this, and for the most part, this will be a milder storm for us. big snow coming across michigan this evening, thunderstorms toward charleston, west virginia. we could get a little thunder tomorrow morning. temperature wise, we are close to 40 degrees right now. look at the setup and you can see how close to two air masses are, the cold on the northern

on the southern side of it. morning. on the onset of this, we have a chance of rain and sleet. i only think it's going to last for a few hours and it's in the middle of the night. if you have to be traveling late tonight, mainly midnight to 3:00 a.m., it could be icy out there. hour by hour, temperatures dip over the next couple hours as the cloud cover isn't too bad. toward midnight, the first of the drizzle moves in. we're close to the freezing mark here. it's rain everywhere else. by 4:00 a.m., i think everyone is over to rainfall at this point. throughout tomorrow morning's drive, we have thunder and heavier downpours moving through, especially early on. it's a rough morning drive with all that rain and temperatures

you say it's nice and comfortable outside, but the cold is right behind it. break that winter jacket. we are in the 20s by the time you come home from work tomorrow and also gusty winds, so big changes in one day. we are looking at a half inch, maybe an inch of total rain. shouldn't cause flooding issues. the wind you'll feel tomorrow out of the south but toward the afternoon that's going to shift around and stay with us. strong winds all day long. we'll get the stronger gusts and heavier downpours in the morning time frame. as the cold front passes, the winds will go more westerly and we're gusting 30 to 40 miles an hour during the afternoon. two power outages are possible. the storm system for the end of the week, we have an area of low pressure moving toward the coast. right now looks like most of

we have a grazing with maybe light snow, cape cod and the islands at most risk for this. looks like mostly a miss for now. the seven-day forecast, a lot of chill, our last significant cold stretch for a while. next week the warmup is still on track. this was an incredible sight in the skies over scotland. take a look, a bright flashing light illuminating the area before people say they heard a loud boom. experts believe it was a meteor that turned into a fireball as it entered the atmosphere. loch ness. you have probably seen these ads online. we wanted to find out if the deals are too good to be true. >> and brotherly bond on and after the track, twins who are

down negative posts. i went to four sites that advertised all over facebook. >> all looks great on the models. >> reporter: i picked a black shirt and leather jacket for $16, a yellow dress for $23, a red coat from maxidress. >> you cannot get a wool coat for $25. >> reporter: this is the black jacket. the first thing i notice is the feel. this look like fake leather, the jacket in the picture does not. it's called a wool coat, this looks like felt. this black shirt is supposed to be longer, and this is a medium and it's a little tight. this dress is too short and too tight to show on tv, take my word for it. the color is a little off compared to the picture.
