year-old kaiser willis. chantee lans begins our coverage. >> reporter: i spoke with the parents, the grandparents, the aunts, and the cousins, and at this hour they just want the same thing they wanted yesterday as they do today, some answers. >> i don't understand why they wasn't watching him at that >> the pain no mother should ever have to endure. kaiser willis found dead five hours after disappearing from a boston run day camp. >> this question is unanswered. and i need the questions answered as soon as possible. >> reporter: kaiser's family waits outside the medical examiner's office nearly 24 hours after he was recovered.

we don't know nothing. they don't know nothing. >> my grand baby don't deserve to die like that. who is watching a 7-year-old baby? you're kidding me. >> it wasn't a counselor. it was a 9-year-old cousin who called first. she's like kaiser is missing. >> what do you mean he's missing? >> how do you not watch kids >> caser's older brother heard him just before he disappeared. >> his brother told one of the counselors that he heard his brother scream. told the counselor i heard my brother scream. >> he's a smart, outgoing daredevil who knows how to swim. mayor marty walsh went by the

>> the grandfather said if something positive can come from his grandson's death -- that might give us a little bit of peace. >> reporter: and investigators say he was found 15 yards from the shoreline. detectives returned to the beach to piece together what happened to him. for now, live in southporten, chantee lans, wbz news. and that's the haunting questi late there afternoon, mayor marty walsh and the police commissioner answered some of our questions about what happened. >> and those included the number of campers and counselors there they day. the camp's director is now on leave. julie loncich is live at city hall. julie-- >> reporter: we spoke with mayor walsh immediately following his meeting with kaiser willis' family. he didn't discuss the investigation with them only

his condolences. the big headline coming out of the news conference, the director of the community center has been suspended with pay pending the outcome of the investigation. the city will also be reviewing all of the day drop-in programs at the end of the week. city leaders are still trying to account for the three-minute time period in discovered missing and when the police were called. 56 children were enrolled yesterday. and 25 hired counselors, and normally, there are 28. in addition, there were eight life forwards on hand as well as the director, a supervisor, and an assistant supervisor. i asked mayor walsh to address the family's claims today, including who notified them something was wrong. and what his brother says he heard. the mayor said he was unable to

pointing to the ongoing investigation. but the commissioner said where the investigation stands. >> we're waiting on the autopsy results. he was found in the water probably about 15 yards from the shore behind the bathhouse. and again, we hard to find that child. >> reporter: center will reopen tomorrow but to adults only. campers will be bused to other locations in the city. for now we're live outside city hall. >> just heartbreaking for everyone involved. we have breaking news on cape cod. officers are responding to a man who has barricaded himself inside a store. sky eye was over the scene and this is a distraught employee with a gun who is threatening

crossing plaza. and police are investigating a crash. >> one of the drivers was going the wrong way when the cars collided. it happened in the southbound lanes at 2:00 this morning. state police say a 24-year-old woman from middleborough was driving north in the southbound lanes. the woman and the driver of the other car, a 27-year-old man from taunton were both pronouncedea and there were no passengers in either car. a fight over a banner in somerville will come to a head tomorrow night. a police rally and counter- protest are planned over a black lives matter banner that hangs on city hall. this has been here since august of last year. the police officers' union wants it replaced with a banner that says all lives matter.

stay now. >> this week -- penned a letter insisting that we take down the black lives matter banner. essentially asking the city to pick a side. let me be clear. that banner will not come down. >> there's a banner at the police station which honors officers killed in the line of duty. turning now to the weather, a live look at the boston skyline. and we had another hot day but so far, we have not hit magic number of 90 meeting the official heat wave is over. let's check in with eric fisher to see if the number continues to shift. >> we have one more hot day to go and then we'll get significant changes. the heat wave, six straight days, and there's a slight chance it could pop over the next hour or so.

30,000 e-mails that are missing. i think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press. >> reporter: the clinton campaign issued a statement saying in part. this has to be the first time that a major presidential candidate has actively encouraged a foreign power to conduct espionage against a political opponent. the statement also called it a matter of national security. bernie sanders trail as promised and made a couple of surprise stops including for massachusetts. >> trump is a demagogue. >> reporter: bernie sanders not mincing words on why he is fully supporting his primary challenger, hillary clinton. >> this is a man who is running his entire campaign on bigotry. >> the surprise appearance receiving rave reviews from the massachusetts delegation.

and therapies, something that the family is ecstatic to hear. beth germano has the story all new at 6:00. >> reporter: it's a challenge that became a sensation. buckets of ice water poured over the heads of the enthusiastic all in the name of research. a former baseball star suffering from als, better >> now it's bearing the fruit that we need. >> reporter: it funded another step. dr.john landers is part of a team of researchers discovering a new gene in als patients that could lead to new therapies. he received funds to join an international team of scientists. and he took the challenge himself saying the campaign raised money and awareness.

i worked on als they gave me a strange look or didn't know what i was talking about. >> reporter: they helped spearhead the biggest medical fund raising campaign in history. and now the gene is another piece of a complex puzzle. >> we have a long way to go from a gene discovery to a treatment for people who are living with als today. we implore everybody to with us. >> reporter: two years ago. dr.landers wanted to become part of the project but was told the funding was not available. the ice bucket challenging changed everything. it's a mixed blessing. they say pete is now in an advanced stage of the horrendous disease.

bit. you'll notice more humidity tonight and tomorrow. we're also watching the front off to the north. and this is dropping down out of canadian and is going to bring pop-up showers and thunderstorms for tomorrow afternoon. back in the 60s and then a space station fly by-tonight. at 10:14 tonight it will be visible for six minutes, taking a really high arc acro and we'll be in the 90s for one more day. and then we're watching a chance for showers and storms developing in the afternoon. a good possibility of them in vermont and new hampshire. and all the way to the border. and then this one model is trying to bring it down to the pike or farther south. i think most of the activity will be across southern new hampshire and far northern massachusetts. if you have plans late tomorrow evening, a chance for the

across the region. hot day. the only way to end a heat wave. if you're heading out to gillette. mid-90s and bring hydration for sure. friday, 79 is the high and a chance for rain moving in. here's what we're focusing on. a boundary here will be stalled out and a wave of low pressure that's going to move off to the south. this is a pretty good setup for heavy rainfall. and i think this develops on friday morning. area. and there could be a couple of thunderstorms embedded in here. and it departs friday night. this could be the biggest rain event in a long time. i think these numbers are legit. we could see 1 to 3 inches of rainfall. from the pike to southeastern massachusetts with lower totals heading into new hampshire. we'll be updating the forecast. and that's how it looks.
