jamie yuccas is in philadelphia. good morning, jamie. >> good morning, anne-marie. >> reporter: i don't know if you can see behind me right now but a lot of construction is taking place. they are going to set an entirely new stage for hillary clinton tonight. chelsea clinton will introduce her when she accepts the nomination. but as of this morning, everybody is talking about president obama's speech, as well as all of the other speakers and how they went after republican rival donald trump in a much hsh hillary clinton joined president obama on the convention stage. her former political foe, turned biggest ally. >> she is fit and she is ready to be the next commander in chief. >> reporter: the president used his address wednesday night to bash her opponent donald trump. >> the donald is not really a planned guy and not really a fact guy either. >> reporter: vice president joe biden, newly minted vp tim kaine

the attack. >> he has no clue about what makes america great. actually, he has no clue, period. >> you cannot believe one word that comes out of donald trump's mouth. >> trump says he wants to run the nation like he is running his business? god help us. i >> i'm a new yorker and i know a con when i see one. >> reporter: top democrats also used their remarks to bash russia to find hillary clinton's missing e-mails. >> it is inconceivable to me that any presidential candidate would be that irresponsible. >> reporter: clinton will have the last word tonight when she formally accepts the democratic nomination for president. now after trump made those comments, his running mate mike pence actually released a statement saying that he thinks russia should stay out of the

trump's campaign now clarifying those remarks saying, quote, trump never urged russia to hack clinton's e-mails. >> jamie yuccas in philadelphia, thank you, jamie. cbs news contributor bob schieffer says trump's remarks appear to call for moscow to interfere in a u.s. election is unprecedented and are a game-changer. >> i don't know if we will remember what was said in this hall as in florida today when he called for the russians to help him win this election. that is a first in american politics and the more i think about this, i think this election may be decided on what donald trump said today and the temperament of the man who said those word. people here were fighting. some laughed aloud. they were agasped. people simply couldn't believe

words. senator chris coons says he is looking for some way to disqualify himself. he said that as a joke and i don't believe that to be true. what he said tonight may well be the turning point in this election. >> in his speech, president obama said there has never been anyone more qualified to be president than hillary clinton. he reminded the convention that clinton was at his side in the situation room when some tough decisions were made. >> you know, nothing truly prepares you for the demands of the oval office. you can read about it. you can study it. but until you've sat at that desk, you don't know what it's like to manage a global crisis or send young people to war. but hillary has been in the room. she's been part of those

of america! >> well, also speaking last night, vice president joe biden unleashed a stinging attack on donald trump's foreign policy qualifications. >> let me say -- let me say something that has nothing to do with politics. let me talk about something that i am deadly serious about. this is a complicated and uncertain world we live in. the threats are too great, the times are too uncertain. to elect donald trump as president of the united states -- now, let me finish. no major party -- no major party nominee in the history of this nation has ever known less or has been less prepared to deal with our national security.

we simply cannot let that happen as americans. period. coming up on "cbs this morning," we will talk with clinton campaign manager robbie mook is donald trump's e-mail request to russia and hillary clinton's acceptance speech tonight. john hinckley's lawyers says hinckley is gratified by a court order permantly freeing him from a psychiatric he tried to assassinate president reagan. >> reporter: on march 24th, 1981, john hinckley attempted to assassinate president reagan outside a washington hotel. at the hospital, reagan told the surgeons he hoped they were republicans and told wife nancy, honey, i forgot to duck. in fact, though, it was far from funny. the bullet stopped less than an inch from his heart.

including press secretary jim brady, who sustained a severe brain injury. hinckley said he wanted to kill the president to impress actress jodie foster, after seeing her in the movie "taxi driver." hinckley was found not guilty by reason of insanity and for 35 year, he's lived under court supervision at a mental hospital in washington, d.c. the court has allowed hinckley frequent visits to the home of his 90-year-old mother in williamsburg, virginia and president judge paul friedman said he will be set free to live with her full-time. they say he has shown no signs of. who might have saved reagan's life that day by taking a bullet himself. >> i'm very concerned. i hope they are right that they

buzzfeed news thinks marco rubio would learn on the job in the white house. the florida senator told a radio interviewer trump's views might shift once he is in office, but rubio conceded that whether trump will eventually become more informed on the issues is an open question. the baltimore sun reports that charges against three city officers in the death of freddie gray have been dropped. prosecutors conceded yesterday that convictions were unlikely. three other officers were not convicted. grayea police custody last year led to rioting. the chib tribune reports the selection of a site for president obama's presidential library. he has picked jackson park on the city's south side. the presidential center is expected to cost at least 5 hundred,000. "the washington post" reports that ride sharing services do not reduce drunker driving. that goes against a claim by uber. researchers say the number of

here's a look at today's forecast in some cities around the country. on the cbs "moneywatch," facebook earnings soar and seven marks a drone delivery milestone. jill wagner is at the new york stock exchange with that and more. >> reporter: good morning. the federal reserve left interest rates as is, but upgraded assessment of the economy, following a meeting, the fed board note that near term risk to the economy diminished. analysts say this all points to a possible interest rate hike as early as september. here on wall street, stocks finished about where they started yesterday. the dow fell one point.
