good morning everyone, yes, this is it, this is the day. a live look where the pan mass challenge gets underway, just about a half an hour. the weekend long event is expected to raise $46 million for cancer research, and treatments. a lot of heart -- hard work going into this day. glad you are waking up with us. unfortunately, the ride will not be completely free of bad weather, right? >> it is going to be great tomorrow for them, they have to keep an eye to the sky for

nothing is changing, it looks like we are in for a day which we will have to keep an eye to the sky. temperatures pretty close to 70 in most spots. it is a warm morning out there, no question about that. we have dew points in the lower 60s right now, here is what is going on the showers and storms some have developed along northern new england. nothing important right now, no big thunderstorms at the present time. as the sun goes to wor you have a -- have to keep an eye on the showers and storms heading out to the southeast. some of the showers and storms across northern new england will start heading southward into southern new england and massachusetts late this morning. showers and thunderstorms are definitely in the forecast for today as it goes up to the upper '80s to near 90 degrees and turning a lot muddier as the day progresses. watch out for the thunderstorms

winds. tomorrow will be much less humid, 85-86, should be a beautiful day. anybody outside today, especially those at pan mass keep an eye to a sky as these storms approach. storms or not they are definitely ready to ride. the bicycles are all lined up, in sturbridge, look at this, ahead of the shares and mass challenge. athletic fundraiser in the entire country. this year some 6300 writers have a goal to raise $46 million. the longest ride stretches 192 miles from sturbridge to province town. we have coverage live in sturbridge where the right kicks off at 5:30 a.m. i can't

been up for hours. >>reporter:you can feel the excitement down here. you can hear the music playing getting these riders ready to take off. you can see everyone out here getting their bikes, and their gear ready making sure their tires are full of air. making sure they have enough water for this long trek. 12 different routes ranging from 27-192 miles. people will paddle through 46 massachusetts towns. almost 3000 people takeoff here in sturbridge at hour later another big root rolls out, they meet up near london and hound -- and head south, sunday morning the 2 day writers will get back on their bikes -- riders get back on their bikes and ride across cape cod to the finish line in provincetown. first time riders no they are in for a challenge, but the experience of a lifetime. >> first time during the two

here is where they register, there is also a place for them to shop, fuel up, grab a bite to eat before making their journey. when 63 miles from here to p town -- p-town. most of the riders will make that 80-mile track this morning. i also want to tell you at 6:45, there is opening ceremonies. big papi's daughter will be singing the national anthem this morning at 7 o'clock. that is when all of those riders will be starting a lot of different teams, people dress up together in support of someone who has been touched by cancer. team parker power, they were navy shirts with superman logos on them, that -- this is in honor of david parker who died a few years ago i just 42 years old. his wife is riding, for the first time, tells us why they were the superman shirts.

that was a live look at the wellesley where the pan mass challenge kicks off in 15 minutes. there will be riders in the storm, raising a cloud all the way to bourne, barry burbank. they met or be prepared for that, right? i know you have been telling everybody, it is amazing, the week before and after today, it's just today. >> a lot of things happening today. it looks like the potential is there for some strong thunderstorms, everybody is going to be having outside plants today et riding the pan mass challenge, or other things, you have to keep an eye to the sky. we've got a really dry situation ongoing. this has been happening going on weeks, and weeks, and weeks. one good thing i have not had to mow my lawn in the last six weeks. it is not good for the farmers here, it is not good for the crops. we need rain badly, we are in bad shape here. we have a severe drought going

there is hope we will get some rain today and some places will get some big downforce. but then places that will get hardly a drop of rain. these are the numbers right now, close to 70 off to the s outhwest, in the 70s, we have been so lucky, with some of the heat we have been having, we have not had a huge amount of real tropical air. it has been humid, at times, we had two points today in the low to middle 60s. the real ic will be injected into the northeast today ahead of this approach in cold front will set off the thunderstorms. there is some action in new york state right now and across northern new england. no real strong thunderstorms at the time. as we get into the heating of the day, and this cold front come southeast, the stage is set for the most volatile weather near and south of the mass pike's this afternoon. near 90 in boston, and southwest word, and the dryer

is coming in tomorrow. if you're going to be at, in, or on the water today this afternoon it will be 80-90 at most teaches you the water temperatures have been really, really nice. just after 8 o'clock, there is a moderate risk of some rib currents, and some of these beaches. the careful out there, we have had flat sees most of the s waves in the last couple of days. so there is a moderate risk of those rip currents. 90 in boston today, especially northwest of boston a place up in here with the areas close to 90. close to the lower '80s and the cape. this afternoon, first, this morning, we have clouds starting to come in. a few scattered showers taking place this morning. they will regenerate this afternoon. so we will see these different -- developing often southern new hampshire down into massachusetts. that afternoon they come on

activity will be near and south of the mass pike into later this afternoon. you see some of those thunderstorms right here. some of those can take some damaging wind gusts, but the main threat is damaging wind gust, at this point. that is what will be going on today and everything quiets down this evening. we have temperatures us are going up this morning 6 9-70 degrees around 7 a.m. and sturbridge, 7:49 a.m. into the 80s this afternoon. anytim waish out for those scattered showers and thunderstorms. here's my forecast for the next seven days, near 90 today. lower '80s on the south coast, keep an eye out for those thunderstorms. tomorrow, no threat at all. turning much less humid tomorrow, not too much wind in the afternoon. beautiful days on monday and tuesday turns a little bit

welcome back, we are following a developing story from chicago. protesters have been in the streets, much of the night, especially on the city south side following the release of a video showing the fatal shooting of an unarmed lack and after a short police pursuit. this is a video from one police officers body camera. there also recordings from

shot by a chicago police officer. on july 28, he was assessed -- he was suspected of stealing a car. the actual shooting was not documented. the officer that shot o'neill in the back, did not follow procedures. police in chicago are bracing for more protest today, as a nation continues to struggle with issues of race, and how it impacts police. that was not a problem in one local event designed to show support for the men and women in blue. it you make together.

>> if they are off, going fast, and on the way a lot of them will get down there before there is a real problem. but, you know, we have to watch out this afternoon. the main action will be taking place, for the most part, the highest risk of the worst thunderstorms would be near and mainly south of mass pike. right down in here. this is not a good place, because of those riders will be in there. there is action this morning, but a lot of it is a week. most of them are just showers, not too much lightning be detected yet. the stage is set, a lot of the parameters are available, and the atmosphere, this afternoon for those thunderstorms to start percolating. again, they will be across southern new england. that is the main threat. for everybody else, with all other outside activities going on, there is a ton of stuff

what an exciting atmosphere out here, this morning. so much anticipation for the long trek ahead. these cyclists are so motivated knowing that each petal and each mile makes so many differences in so many le these riders are biking 111 miles today, and the most 50 -- the first 50 miles of the most brutal. the finishil riders will arrive in goren between 12:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. a long day for some. a total of 192 miles, offer such a good cause. the executive director tells me this is an exciting day, and emotional day, he is confident they will reach of their fundraising goal of $46 million going towards cancer research

good morning have been waiting to hear from tom brady since training camp began last week. we have been waiting to hear from him since he ended his legal battle with the league and accept his four-game deflategate suspension. he finally spoke yesterday. he will not see regular-season game action for well over a month. >> honestly, i am trying to be as good as i can be everyday. making improvements in certain areas, we try to make them when they changed our office.

northwest of boston, those are the areas that have had the highest heat so far this season. here we are sitting at 13, and boston will get some more later this week. not likely today, but it will be ever so close nudging 90, and spots, upper 60s and lower 70s right now starting across northern england. we've got pretty much upper 60s and lower 70s across the rest of the not too much wind, these are the dew points. low to middle 60s. it is feeling humid but naturally tropical like the areas down to the south of us. the air is going to turn more humid as the day goes along before this cold front gets h ere. action off to the north and west, but mostly just rain showers. nothing in terms of lightning detection at the present time.

so many families do not have the support that are going through much more difficult circumstances, we want this to be able to help those people. >>reporter:a cancer survivor himself, nate knows how vital it is to get the very best care. what is your feeling when you walk into dana-farber? >> they have made us feel so comfortable, and hopeful about his treatments and things. they ride through those bombs with us. >> we are so thankful for everything they have done for u s, and for all of the other kids. >>reporter:this fall, nate will be back on the field, anchoring the offensive line, while his son continues his battle against cancer. just like the patriots, hudson will have his own team, and fans cheering him on. >> about this whole process, i tell people all of the time, as hard as it is i have never felt more grateful per -- raphael. >> nate is back at practice after your long recovery after
