>> live from the channel 4 studios in boston, this is wbz news at 5:00. now at 5:30. on alert for severe st. warning is up in the area. rain, heavy winds, thunder, and lightning all possible. >> but the air is very unstable and in some areas we've been seeing rotation. let's check in with our chief meteorologist eric fisher. and there's a warning in place. >> there's one severe thunderstorm warning in place until 6:00 this evening. you can see it in orange. this storm has been moving from the packston area and now it's

east. and at times, the storm has been rotating. no tornadoes out there. don't want to get anyone too alarmed but there's rotation on all the storms so we're treating them carefully. and some of the heaviest walnut and up to old bay road. and eastward to hudson on coolidge street. seeing torrential rainfall. and you don't rainfall. some gusts here could be as strong as 60 miles per hour as it continues thnortheastward path. looking at the timeline, acton by 6:01. and stowe by 5:47. and this storm has been rotating a little bit. all these storms have a local of -- have the ability to rotate. look at the lightning tracker,

we look at winds and s here and lighter rotation. i'm not overly concerned with this particular storm, just heavy rain. and we've seen downpours to the south. and reports of a wall cloud which is a precursor of a storm. heavier rainfall wall pole, and norwood. and we'll track another chance tonight. thieves breaking into cars in quincy. >> but they didn't one father and son chased county one of the suspected men and kept him from getting away. >> it's usually a pretty quiet place. but the other night. jeff crispo's wife looked out the window and was surprised. >> she noticed someone was in his car. and she said jeff, who is in your car? and he goes nobody. nobody is in there.

on the bz feed tonight, not exactly breaking news to tell you boston is expensive. did you know it's the fourth most expensive city to rent. >> a new survey looked at how much you have to earn to rent a two bedroom apartment. more than $120,000. the average is $2800 and it costs $500 more to rent in los angeles and $800 more in new york city. the most expensive francisco where the average two bed room costs more than $5000 a month. who can afford that when you're starting out? >> and we're using the word average. you're not living in a new spectacular high-rise that you see popping up. >> you'd have to have 20 roommates to survive. >> good point. we've all sat at the never ending red light. >> and now one automaker is

we are tracking some severe storms across new england and

and you're worried about rotation and clouds and things have not panned out. >> some of the storms are starting to weaken when it comes to rotation. we just want rain but not severe weather. we two to the radar and we thun it's in orange and most of the storms are past the warning. it may get reissued by the national weather service. we'll let you know if that's the case. the system is moving at the rotation has really weakened and that's a very good sign for us. zooming in now, some of the heaviest rainfall on mass avenue. and this is moving northeast through several communities and rain rates could be 1 to 2 inches per hour. and farther to the west. the more heavy rainfall. the heaviest downpours are in

heaviest downpours moving through. there's very little lightning. lightning tracker has zero. make a stray rumble or two. we have a lot of rotation and not a lot of instability. and when you want a lot of lightning. opportunity storms to climb up. a lot of these are staying below the level. and light showers in the city. a brief down over the milton area. and rain in potential marshfield this evening. a picture that came in earlier on. mike kelly sent thin minden. and this didn't produce a tornado it was awfully close. it shows us what type of atmosphere we have today. the warm front has been moving northward. and the dew points are in the 70s. and it's going to stay really soupy up until tomorrow

air. we have sun breaking out to the west. and temperatures spiking around 90 in hartford. mid-80s in springfield. and many of us will see the 80s before the sun goes down. more storms off to the west. and these are something to over getting to the hudson valley were mass by 9 p.m. and towards midnight we bring in the chance thunderstorms. and until early tomorrow morning when the cold front moves through. a chance for more activity. so all of this will be scattered in nature. and the best chance will be in the line from boston to the north and west with a low risk to the cape and the islands and temps in the 70s. muggy tomorrow morning. and as the day wears on. the dew points will drop and they'll stay much more manageable over the next few days. the cape and the islands, humid

a warm day and estey breeze. and it's going to start to feel better in the second half of the day. all the way through the weekend. 80s to around 90 degrees. a really warm stretch. and a really dry stretch. we have rainfall today. and the drought is still the story for us. minimal rainfall chances through the upcoming weekend. and here's the accuweather 7- day. you see the heat for sure. and maybe an isolated otherwise, monday with the next chance for the locally heavy rainfall. 12 years ago. curt schilling took down the yankees, bloody sock and all. and now he's eyeing a run against massachusetts senator elizabeth warren. jon keller is here. and john, i guess the question is is this actually for real? >> he certainly sounds sincere about it.

family. >> an american hero finally comes home receiving the honor he deserved decades ago. live from the channel 4 studios in boston. this is wbz news at 6:00. and we begin tonight looking at the radar and talking about the weather. >> we are keeping a close eye on downpours and a potential for dangerous storms in the area. this is den. >> we'll be watching the storms moving across the area. we've had a few warnings and the last of the warnings expiris we speak. we are still watching heavy rainfall over littleton d acton. and bedford and billerica. this is one of the driest areas in the whole state. we have torrential downpours. bruce street. all seeing very heavy rain.

are heaviest on route 2 could be an inch or two per hour. also into -- 1 to 2 inches per hour. very tropical, soupy air. and the good news is the rotation that we had on the downpour earlier on has started to weaken. so that tornado risk going down a little bit. i heard from -- said he saw a funnel. didn't touch the ground but st atmosphere we had. that downpour has weakened and lighter rainfall is moving off to the east. we'll keep an eye on the storms that try to creep out of connecticut through the course of tonight. taking a look at the storm reports. one in holden was broadly rotating at this time. back at 5:10 this evening. and the humidity, dew points have spiked. warm fronts to the north. and they'll stay in the 70s
