live from the channel 4 studios in boston this is wbz this morning. >> good morning it's 6:00 i am kathryn hauser. >> i am chris mckinnon. thanks for joining us on this wednesday august 17th. we start with a developing story in roxbury. a young girl among three people hit crossing the street. her father hurt trying is stalking -- talking about the scare and police say it's one of the several shootings in recent days. a wall of moving in every direction. dangerous wild fire burning out of control in california forcing tens of thousands to flee. >> we will have the latest on the stories coming up and a campaign shakeup overnight. >> but first we have to kick it off with danielle niles. >> good morning to you. good morning. it's a warm start.

crash is on the ramp to kenmore square in the westbound lanes. this crash is on the ramp so you will not have any access to kenmore square. to the north we have slow downs on 93 south in andover at exits 43 and 42. and up in woburn between exit 37 and 35. all your trains are still running on time. chris and catherine to thanks very much -- kathryn. >> thanks very much. three pedestrian hit trying to cross the street. >> one of the victims is a young girl. wbz annaei on the scene with more on the actions that may have saved the little girl's life anna. >> reporter: and that horrible crash happened right here on blue hill avenue in roxbury. the street is back opened this morning. but take a look at this video showing the scene ar night. police blocked off the street with crime tape and collected evidence from a car. they say hit three pede a 40-year-old man 10-year-old daughter and 22-year-old family

police and this is the grs driv you can see front damage and partially shattered windshield. off camera a family member told us the father and daughter were caulking-- walking their friend to the bus stop when they were hit and the 40-year-old man pushed the girl out of the way likely saving her from being seriously hurt. the father suffered severe head and face injuries and the condition of the friend in the whole chair is unknown at this hospitals. the cause of the crash is under investigation and no charges have been filed. reporting live, anna meiler. >> thanks so much. breaking overnight an out of control wild fire continues to grow in southern california. more than 80,000 people have been evacuated. homes and buildings destroyed. the out of control flames threatening even more property this morning. cbs erica nochlin has latest.

hears fireworks all the time. and she still wasn't afraid even when she heard it was actual bullet. in the early morning hours. >> i was sitting up and didn't know what happened. >> reporter: what ever it was woke up the 81-year-old. >> thank god i was on this side. >> reporter: a closer look reveals damage inside the home. >> it went through the hole and through the curtain and then there's a hole in the curtain over there and went straight througe >> reporter: her dog was startled but she unphased. >> and i said i was calling to report fireworks because i thought that over there were setting off fireworks all the time. >> reporter: a cowl to -- call to police brought out officers who determined a stray bullet pierced the home feet from where she was sleeping. >> i was lucky but i am not shaking or i just think it was a nut that just wanted to fire

literally her entire life here and will continue to do so she says without a concern. since early saturday morning, there has been three similar situation throughout the city. live in lowell, nicole jacobs wbz this morning. >> thanks very much. a criminal with a violenthistory is due in court accused of taking police on a chase. officers say brian lafrenie sped off in responded to a report of a threat at a supermarket in gardner e crashed and ran into the woods. police caught up with him an hour later and he faces multiple charges. he was also wanted on a probation violation in worcester for an armed robbery. 6:08 is the time. 100 boston police officers will be assigned to take part in abody camera pilot program. the globe reports the officers will find out today if they have been chosen. they were supposed volunteers but no one stepped

last night. upper 60s downtown and suburbs fall into the upper 50 toss mid 60s. you can open up the windows and let fresh 90 plus in several communities and i do think a light sea breeze kicks in at the coastline so we will be in the upper 80s to near 90. a little wind kicking in off the ocean tomorrow. humidity relatively low. in terms of thunderstorm threat it's isolated. a little green showing up on the map but not a big deal. there may be one or two storms at friday beautiful end to the week with sun and clouds a few thunderstorms but notice the focus. connecticut maybe south central worcester county northern rhode island and mainly dry end to the week. tropical depression 6 formed way out in e atlantic. but 775 miles southwest of the cape verde eyehand. 35-mile-per-hour wind right now. not all that impressive but this tropical depression is likely to become tropical storm

someone in their son's car around 1 a.m. on sunday in and she called police as her husband and son went to confront the suspect. >> that's where we caught him right in the driveway over there and he goes he says to me, what are you going to do in you going beat me up or arrest me? am i going get arrested? i go both if you try to move. >> the suspect is 22-year-old dana durfee. he didn't fight ba over the license. quincy police are warning people not to confront someone committing a crime and call 911 instead. a warning if you plan on driving to gillette stadium. police are cracking down on people who abuse handicap spots. foxborough police are taking extra attention to those vehicles parked in handicapped spots to make sure occupants have a disabled and are not just using a relative's

of stadium officials. on the "healthwatch" this morning a p pill that helps doctors keep a close eye on the patients even from miles away. children's health in dallas is the first hospital in the the country to use so-called smart pills in kids. the pills include a sensor that transmits data to a patch and to doctors nurses and parents. are injured in stroller and baby carrier acnt or carrier or if it is tipped over. many have to be treated for bumps and bruises but a growing number are being treated for concussions as well. if you've been over in the fence you have noticed something. there are red and white checkers on one side and poles out of the top. we checked and found out that this is part of a temporary art

the actions thhave save the little girl's life anna. >> reporter: and chris the three people were taken to the hospital after they were hit right here on blue hill avenue in roxbury. look at this video showing the scene around 8:30 last night. police blocked off the road with crime tape and collected evidence from a car they say hit 3 people a40-year-old man his 10-year-old daughter their 22-year-old family friend who is in a wheelchair. the driver did stop and talk to police. ths he was driving. you can front end damage and partially shattered windshield. off camera the family member safayser and daughter were walking their friend to the bus stop at the time they were hit and the 40-year-old man pushed the girl out of the way likely saving her from being seriously hurt. that father suffered severe head and face injuries. the condition of the friend in the wheelchair at this time is unknown. all three people were taken to the area hospitals and the

morning and midday on the decrease by midday the sun of s takes longer for cape and islands to clear out but a beautiful bright sunny day. gusty breeze and temperatures warming up into the mid to upper 80s even. no sea breeze kicking in and the coastline will be some of the warmest spots today. low 80s in nashua. upper 70s to low 80s from keen tow jaffrey. 85 in norwood. 86 plymouth and many well into the 80s c we bump it up. 90 humidity still relatively low dew point in the 60s sun and clouds and i can't rule out an isolated storm but it would be just that in fact look at the map. aside from maybe a storm or two through the interior, most of tomorrow is dry and friday we start with sun and clouds and nice end to the week and few more storms fire up and noticethey are focused through connecticut and maybe one or two coming into southern massachusetts and southern worcester northern rhode island but that threat is minimal to enweek on friday too.
