we really don't have any rain in the forecast until monday. and with that, a few scattered showers and downpours but the next 10 days, that might be it. we have an updated drought monitor looking at the extremes of the drought across the area. we'll have that for you coming up later on in the newscast. david and paula? >> thank you, eric. now to an attempted kidnapping caught on camera. you can see store security footage in braintree capturing a moment that a man grabbed a the boy's parent says it happened so fast, they were standing nearby when the man picked up the kid and walked off. >> the good news is the boy is okay and back with the family and the suspect is behind bars. chantee lans has the story. >> reporter: i will tell you that the boy was not harmed but the man came out the back door and casually walked into the

that's where police say they found him. cameras inside the grocery store captures this. >> this gentlemen walked in without a shirt, grabbed the kid. >> reporter: he throws a 1- year-old boy over his shoulder and heads to the back. you can see the kid's father trailing behind. >> god bless. his father was -- got him and confronted the suspect. >> reporter: the man hands the boy back and heads out the back >> the father came up with a minute later and told me what happened. >> reporter: the clerk walks out and spots him before running after him. >> he had clear access right to the woods and came right through and had gone down this small alleyway. through here. >> reporter: the employee said he clung to a tree until police arrived. >> when he heard sirens, he

know, just -- and the first thing approaching officer came in he was right here. >> reporter: 47-year-old stephen o'brien was charged with kidnapping. the parents thought initially he was an employee playing with their kid. >> the kid learned to walk a week ago, and this was the first time they went out and went walking in a public area. and this so it was pretty scary. >> reporter: and stephen o'brien is still in jail, arraigned on monday but he is due back in court next month. live in braintree, chantee lans, back to you. >> scary to watch. all right. thank you. disturbing charges against a teenager who confessed to stabbing two family members while they were on vacation in florida. liam martin has more.

ramgren is charged with two counts of attempted murder, stabbing his mother and 14-year- old brother while they were in siesta key, floardz and fled on foot. police tracked him down and rescue crewed rushed the family members to the hospital and the younger brother asking authorities where his brother would do this. both ramgren did not explain his motive. paula? >> liam, thank you so much. another big story, most of massachusetts is considered in a severe or extreme drought and this is not the news that farms or homeowners want to hear. we have team coverage of the drought beginning with christina hager live in north andover. christina? >> reporter: paula, the governor had a news conference

agriculture is the first to feel the effects. behind me, this pond feeds into the irrigation system at the farm. you can see how low the water level is and this is what we are seeing at reservoirs and water supplies at municipalities across the region. >> usually, the water level is up, and you can see a waterline. >> reporter: the mill pond reservoir in burlington is one of the townee drinking water sources. ma about 10 feet low. for years, it's been a regular exercise route for bill collins. >> right now, it's about as bad as i have seen it. >> reporter: right on the edge of a crisis say state public officials who announced they're preparing for the worst. >> you can eliminate or limit your waters your lawns. eliminate or limit washing your car. cover the swimming pool to

reminding people to abide by the restrictions. the drought is causing crop losses, and some farmers say they will have no choice but to raise prices. back at the burlington reservoir, normally where i'm standing would be underwater. but the fact that this is dry land means there could be less water available for household consumption and things like firefighting in the town. >> and there are a lot of things that we can all do to mitigate the way we use water heck of a lot of precipitation in the course of the next few months, the consequences of that will be less than they might be otherwise. >> reporter: so he and other state officials are looking into emergency water supplies that could be tapped into should this dry weather continue and looking at potential disaster aid for hard hit farms. david and paula, back to you.

and we have new pictures just into the newsroom of a major fire at a 3-family home in hyde park. boston fire tweeted out these images shooting over the roof of the building. the people inside were able to get out safely. the fire started between the third floor and attic. it was a heroic effort from strangers today. a mercedes crashed into three pedestrians including a child durith at least one person was pinned under the car as you can see here. people got together and lifted the car to help free the victim. policesay that the injuries were not life-threatening. the woman driver reportedly tried to run but was stopped. no word if she will be facing charges. boston police stepping up security in the back bay after

windows. anna meiler has more. >> it's pretty disgusting. >> reporter: the thought was a stranger peering through windows is putting some on high alert. >> concerned that someone like that is in your neighborhood and has people concerned. >> reporter: one person was spotted on marlborough street and then saw for a second time. citizens contacted police and also hung flyers in the area. >> i was put up signs. hopefully, people are noticing and it has created a dialogue. >> reporter: neighbors are taking steps to protect themselves. >> i am trying not to go out as late by myself. >> reporter: police is a detectives looking into the situation and say they are beefing up patrols in the area. >> just hope whoever it is, they can figure out who it is and get him help. >> reporter: i spoke with the

he described the suspect as a man in his 40s with salt and pepper hair and drives a ford pickup. anna meiler, wbz news. an investigation after a massachusetts town rejected plans for a muslim cemetery. carmen ortiz is looking into whether the town of dudley violented civil rights laws. town officials cited traffic islamic society of greater worcester suggest that is bias played a role. the town said it welcomes this investigation to show that the town's zoning and land use practices do not violate any religious rights of the society nor discriminate on the basis of religion or religious denominates. the company facing charges for the deadly circus tents

dramatic moments caught on camera by a drone as a man gets stuck in the mud in quincy and finally gets rescued. this happened this morning at 7:00 off if you were as brook parkway. the fisherman is stuck up to his waist. firefighters used ropes and ladders and wore survival suits to go after the man and took him 10 minutes to free him. the firefighters say he was lucky he had a cell phone on him at the mbta is going to test new virtual reality goggles next month to help fix broken- down trains faster sending the images to maintenance crews so they don't have to travel on site to diagnose the repairs. fenway park willing getting

of year. getting darker a touch earlier. want to talk about the drought with an update this morning that comes out every thursday morning and these are the latest conditions. this is a hyper local drought and it's confined to southern new england and southeastern new hampshire and york county and maine. the worst conditions, metro boston, swinging to the south shore and essex county and rockingham where we have the biggest rainfall departures for the year, and boston every shower and storm nature has tried to push through the area, only 3" going back to june 1. with just a bit to go, this could be the driest summer every recorded in the city and that goes back to 1872. the forecast going forward doesn't do us many favors, a slight chance of a shower on sunday but a few scattered showers and downpours on monday and that's it for the rain for the next 10 days. the drought will stay a story for us. take a look at the current radar.

northern worcester, not expecting a lot out of that and most will be dissipating over the next hour and another warm day, 89 in boston, just shy of 90 and well above average for this time of year and 86 at gillette stadium where we stand. a couple of cumulus clouds on the weatherbug network. a comfortable air mass, 80s and 70s but no widespread 90s, a good th humidity is manageable and dew points in the 50s and lower 60s and real, oppressive, nasty humidity from last week has been shunted off to our south and will stay there. hour by hour, any of the showers will be dissipating quickly. tomorrow, a nice blend of sun and cloud cover, and then as we move towards saturday, i think if we get cloud cover developing, it will stay in mainly western new england, giving us more sunshine.
