5:13 am
we've been saying that all summer long because of the drought situation. it's gotten even worse as the drought monitor shows. the officials now have us in extreme drought here, here in eastern massachusetts, in the boston area and points to the north. so it's bad, it's bad crops are in bad shape in many locations. but we're able to still get some produce in the local areas for getting some of that corn. but -- in some places it's bad because it's not enough water this year. everything is drying out. the lawn are dried. i haven't mode my lawn in -- mowed my lawn in eight weeks. total rain so far in august is only .80 offen inch. of course the other months were way dry as well. so let's look at the numbers this morning. and quite pleasant this morning. it's not all that humid and it's actually cool in some spots.
5:14 am
outlying areas out in western massachusetts, and in vermont and west new hampshire, pretty cool this morning. we have a few spots which are near 60 degrees. we're starting off on the nice side this morning. some places it's clear. there's a few places where there's lots of clouds. eventually there's going to be some clouds taking over. the dew points, it's in the low to middle 60s. so we have moderate humidity here. we have low humidity in western new england. it looks like there's an axis wooster and into eastern connecticut. and looks like this is going to be the area where some scattered showers could form by late this morning or this afternoon. and that will be the similar area for scattered showers tomorrow. here are the dew points down here. so it is going to definitely turn muggier even though it's relatively not that humid this morning. high temperatures ranging from the mid-80s in metro west to near or just under 80 along the
5:15 am
we're starting out with quite a bit of sunshine but end up with quite a bit of clouds. perhaps right along the coast, although it may get cloudy for a while, it may clear out an these clouds may push inland. so it's right in here in wooster county down into connecticut where some scattered showers could form this afternoon. nothing heavy, no big thunderstorms or anything like that. and that likely will be repeated during tomorrow. so here's my seven day forecast. about 86 for some inland spots, both today and again there's a chance of a scattered shower or two while inland today and tomorrow. then everybody gets some rain tomorrow night. i think there's a pretty good shot that many areas will get a half inch or more during the night tomorrow, maybe some thunder. it ends by daybreak on monday. air really dries out after a very muggy day tomorrow. it dries out with a gusty wind on monday. it's going to almost feel like fall here by tuesday morning in

5:30 am
we're at scour right now. let's go to cambridge, closer to boston. charter school 69 and town in canton at the kennedy school 66 degrees. so it's interesting as we look at the map here, we have temperatures in the 60s. now right in here there is like a little bit of a trough developing here where it's cooler and drier there. as moist coming out from the south here. so therefore, it looks like that's going to be favoring the axis of where w have some showers developing. there have been a few little showers down here already. it looks like that moisture feed is going to come right up in here. so even though it's nothing there right now, the clouds are going to come up. in fact, there's a lot of low clouds in there right now. this is the area right here which will give us a spell of somewhat heavier rain tomorrow night. but until then, today and tomorrow, mid-80s, away from the ocean. near just under 80 at the coast.

>> yes. >> right? >> finally. >> i never had air conditioning except a few window units. well i got some of those ductless units. it's so cool. no pun intended. but anyway, because i knew this summer was going to be one hot summer, based upon global factors. and last winter we were forecasting -- i was thinking we would get around 20 to 25 days over 90 and then sort of decided early summer, we would get about 22. well we've got 18 not yesterday but the day before yesterday. boston got its 18th day. there have been some places northwest of boston that have had more than that. massachusetts had its 31st day over 90 degrees yesterday. there's that hot zone over northwest of boston extending near the border into nashua. well, here we are at 18. we had 18 back in 2013.
5:46 am
the average number in boston each year of 90 degree days is 13. there was a big one back in 2010. so the month so far is a mean temperature of 4.5 trees above average. look at all the red squares. we have not had a below average day in terms of temperature since august 3rd. we keep rolling right along here. we have some warm weather coming up later this week when you'll see we may add a day or two more of 90 degrees in boston. right now we'ren 60s. and there is a little bit of moist air right in here moving right up into the connecticut river here, at river valley. look at the dew points here. 71 at will mant. 71 in gratin. so we have some higher dew points right in there. asking is going to pool up in that area to make a boundary where some showers may form later today. and we have a lot of higher humidity to our south so we're going to -- that higher humidity is going to spread out across
