a live look at the radar shows rain falling across the area. that is good news since we're dealing with a out. the rain tonight will now make for a wet morning commute. i'm katie brace. >> and i'm only a martin. up to an inch could fall tonight. pamela gardner joins us with the timeline. >> the next few hours across massachusetts. we are in extreme drought over boston so we welcome the rain. in central massachusetts, into new hampshire, we're starting to see light showers developing. heading toward 495, zooming in a little closer, bolton, written starting to see those little raindrops -- clinton

press -- brushfire in roxbury. >> they have finally wrapped up tonight. jim smith is live in west roxbury where it was a pretty tough battle. >> reporter: it really was a long haul. boston firefighters out here in west roxbury literally spent much of the weekend battling this brushfire but finally early this evening, the job was done. the west roxbury brushfire is finally out. it went up to four alarms at one point in an area tucked behind roxbury latin school. fire officials say the latest blaze is one more chapter in one of the driest summers on record. >> we have several brushfires a year. this isn't an area where we usually have them but the brush is very very dry.

extremely dry summer. very little rainfall. there is a lot of fuel for the fire to burn. >> reporter: no one was hurt and no homes were jeopardized at the remote section that was burning did provide a real challenge for firefighters. >> the firefighters have to drag the hose hundreds of feet uphill, downhill, through the brush. over rocks. it's just very labor-intensive. >> reporter: is finally out. let's hope the soaking rain heading in this direction will help decrease the risk of more brushfires. jim smith, wbz news. now to breaking news out of texas. a union pacific train carrying call has derailed sending 20 cars into a creek. police say a bridge failed in roanoke near the dfw airport. there are no injuries and no other vehicles involved.

story about running to help two children, both hospitalized after being pulled from a pool in west lowell. chantee lans has the story. >> reporter: birthday decorations still hang at this house on freda lane. police say two preschool-aged children were unresponsive when they were pulled from a backyard pool. >> i hear somebody saying oh my god and we went to help. >> reporter: bob baker lives next-door thomas a registered nurse of 25 years. >> through here. >> around and over. >> and then somebody -- >> the little girl was on the ground and i proceeded to take over and take care of her. >> reporter: he says he performed cpr. >> checking the pulse first, a a couple of breaths. she was

help a little boy when emt arrived. the children are alive and expected to survive. when asked if he considers himself a hero: >> no. i consider myself a good nurse. they required help. >> reporter: and that was our own chantee lans reporting. the neighbor says the homeowners came by to say -- to thank him. we did have brought news out of foxboro. key players will be out for an extended period of time. steve burton joins us with those details. >> injuries are part of the game. the fans note, the players know it. you just never feel good about it when they start adding up before the season begins. dion lewis will need a second surgery on his left knee. lewis tore his acl last november and missed the rest of the season. he practiced in spring but hasn't been on the field at all

camp. the globe reported lewis will need a second operation on that knee but it's considered more of a cleanup procedure. nfl sources were quoted as saying there is a chance for lewis to return this year. lewis isn't the only injury problem. coming up in sports, we will fill you in on a couple offensive lineman who are also going to miss strong winds led to two kayakers being rescued off castle island this afternoon. one of those kayakers started taking on water and began to sink. that's when a second man came over to try to bail him out at it was too heavy and they both ended up in the water. they were pulled out and are doing okay. breaking news out of winchester this hour. >> chantee lans is live at the district attorney's office where police are investigating the death of an elderly woman.

death is happening on this street right here. this is edgewater place. this is what we know so far: at approximately 2 pm today, police responded to a winchester residents were they discovered and unresponsive woman. she was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead. this is an open investigation and her name has not been released or the circumstances surrounding her death. those are all places -- pieces were will bring that to you as soon as we get them. for now, chantee lans wbz news. police are investigating a shooting that injured four people shortly before midnight saturday off -- saturday. officers were called to westview street. one person was grazed by a bullet and two men are in the hospital but they are expected to recover. police arrested a man for the stabbing in this area along route 1 around 9:30 pm last night.

murder. the victim is in stable condition. one person is dead and another injured after they were hit by a private party bus. >> police are trying to figure out how that accident happened. paul burton has the latest on that investigation from east boston.>> reporter: what was supposed to be a night of fun ends in tragedy after a person is killed after being hit by a bus. the highway has since reopened but it was shut down for a the crash. on sunday, route 1 a gets shut down after a fatal bus crash claims one life and seriously injures another. police say around 2 am, two people were hit by a private party bus. it's not clear if the two people were trying to cross the highway. >> i am still trying to figure out the details.

accident or what happened. >> reporter: the highway was shut down for in one time as investigators spoke to the driver and other witnesses. the crash happened right across from me courtyard marriot. police say the bus driver is cooperating with authorities and mayor walsh says he wants to let the investigation play out before jumping to any conclusions. >> we don't hear of accidents that often. until we see what the circumstances are, i'm not going to jump to conclusions and they we have to start mandating or regulating all these different condition of the other person that was hit. a bus load of witnesses were taken to the police station to be interviewed. so far, no charges have been filed. paul burton, wbz news. president obama will head to baton rouge tuesday to get a firsthand look at the historic and devastating flooding. the first family earlier today wrapped up their final two-week vineyard vacation as the first family. the president began the day with his wife and played a final round of golf. still to come, an attack at

wreaking news out of winchester. the middlesex district attorney's office and winchester police are investigating the death of an elderly woman. you are looking at live picture is from that scene on edgewater place where police are still actively investigating. police went home around 2:00 and found her at -- and found her unresponsive. she was later pronounced dead at the hospital. we do not know the circumstances surrounding her death or identity but we will bring you the latest on wbz this morning at 4:30 am. the white house condemns an attack that killed 50 people at a wedding party in turkey. it was carried out by suicide bomber -- a suicide bomber

no one has claimed responsibility for the attack but the turkish president blames isis. let's can -- let's turn to campaign 2016. hillary clinton is spending the day at fundraisers right here in massachusetts. >> meanwhile the new campaign manager for donald trump says they are about to turn this thing around. wendy gillette reports. >> on november 8, you've got to get out and vote. >> reporter: top republican officials say donald trump is controversies. >> i think he has shown maturity. i think he is growing in his role. >> reporter: pulls tell the -- polls tell the tale of a trump campaign that has faltered. hillary clinton is leading trump nationally by at least five points. we cbs battle ground tracker poll shows clinton has extended her lead in ohio to six points, improving two points since july. in iowa, the candidates are even at 40% a piece. the only state that doesn't show clinton leading.

we're getting some much- needed rain. >> couldn't have gotten it better timing. the weekend was picture perfect and now we get the much-needed rain. drought conditions have continued to expand. >> i feel like we say the same thing every weekend it just gets worse and worse. extreme drought conditions have expanded into the boston area. all the way back to january 1, 8.3 inches below normal. this could be one of the top eight driest periods of time since january 1 at this point. we will keep you up-to-date on any of those numbers, records, etc. but hopefully, we put a drought and some of the drought conditions. we need wave after wave of rain over longer periods of time but we will take what we can get. some light showers are starting to spread across central massachusetts entering into the eastern half of the state. once we get to the later part of the night, from worchester to clinton, even paxton to go

watchers reporting from west brookfield and charlton saying yes, what you see on radar is hitting the ground. light showers are falling. there also getting light rain in southern new hampshire and into northern new hampshire. this whole cold front continues to march eastward across the state. we could see a couple more surges of heavy rain and thunderstorms overnight tonight as well and a few more waves of move along this frontal boundary. 11 pm tonight, to a rumble of thunder. you may see a flash of lightning if you are up. 2 am, notice the heavy rain potential is there. we could be talking about localized urban street flooding because some of the heavier thunderstorms could set down 1 to 2 inches of rainfall per hour. so far, no watches or warnings with flooding issues at this time. light rain but heavier showers

monday morning will be dealing with wet roads and some standing water. some standing water will remain through 7 am as well but nothing additional from the sky and boston. the showers off of cape cod by morning and monday afternoon, picture-perfect. a fall feel to the air with wind gusts from the north northwest and drier conditions. rainfall potential, want to show you this. this forecast model predicting a quarter inch to an in hopefully, if you wake up, you check the rain gauge, you have a good amount of rainfall. boston maybe just over a half inch of rainfall. dew point temperatures, how much moisture is in the air, a lot for tonight. dew points right around the lower 70s. it's a soupy feeling out there now. once the sweep -- front sweeps through monday morning and noon to 6 pm, dew point temperatures fall into the 40s and that's
