barry burbank what a wild middle of the night we saw and early morning. >> it really has been and we had a tornado warning up. the national weather service team will go out to inspect the area and survey the region to see if indeed it was a tornado touchdown. there has been damage andn marlboro and concord and places like that it's a band of rain moving offshore there's been no lightning and there's heavy rain over southeastern massachusetts and heading towards the cape so you folks on the cape will get showers shortly but to the west the wind shifted and it's deal. and it's over with and becoming partly cloudy to the west and it's drying out as well. it's been very humid but no warnings up now. we had tornado warnings earlier and severe thunderstorm warnings nothing going on at the present time so things are looking good and temperatures today will be going up into the range around 80 so we will talk about the severe weather reports in marlboro mullet tell trees down and maple and church streets and framingham and also as this cell went to the northeast we had damage in

certainly emergency crews have been very busy. you can see they have blocked off this stretch of hawthorne lane trying to make sure things are safe but look in this yard a. large tree has uprooted and fallen on power lines this morning. this is the type of damage crews in core cord are -- concord are dealing with. i want to get you to video we shot a short time ago. trees arely thering the roadway as -- littering the roadway as well. it's clear as we can see coming into the in lot of wind because there's debris scattered throughout the roadway. i can tell you i spoke with the fire chief here on the scene this morning and he tells me right now they have had only had time to set up and prepare to do dang a-- damage assessment throughout the city of concourt. i spoke with -- concord. i spoke with dispatch at the fire department and they have received many calls for damage but they are working under darkness right now.

until we get a little bit of sunlight. obviously there are power outages here that they are working with as well. we do have a national grid crew here on the scene. everyone really trying to assess exactly what happened here in a very quick storm that we are told rolled through here in the early morning hours. that's the very latest from concord, nicole jacobs, wbz this morning. >> thank you very much. and that severe weather also brought down trees and power lines west of boston. >> our anna meiler is live in ma the damage there. anna. >> reporter: and kate we are oner -- walker road because of a tree that snapped in half and fell on the road tearing down power lines with it. police are here making sure no one drives down the road and national grid got here and turned off all the power on this street. about 124 people in marlboro are without power after strong winds and rain moved through the area. earlier this morning, about

improvement there. at one point earlier this morning, there was a tornado warning in this area and a neighbor tells me the wind and rain was so strong and it shook his house and woke him up. he was out here talking to us earlier this morning. there are trees and wires down on a few other streets as well. but the good news is the rain and wind appear to have died down and there are no reports of any injuries. for now reporting hive in marlboro, anna meiler wbz this morn in winchester. police and the middlesex district attorney are investigating the death of an elderly woman there. police responded to the home on edgewater place around 2:00 sunday afternoon. they found the woman unresponsive. she was taken to l l.a. hey clinic -- lahey clinic where she was pronounced dead. police were on the scene until 11 last night. police in hooksett have caught up with an escaped felon. andrew shea disappeared from

last week. overnight police along with a special oop rations unit arrested shea at a home on andrea avenue in hooksett. she was in prison for felony -- he was in prison for felony charges. two preschool age children are recovering after being pulled unresponsive from a lowell pool. a neighbor is a registered nurse and says he revived the little girl. he didn't want to show his face on camera but told us what happened. >> checked the pul gave hear couple breaths and i did a few chest compression and went back to giving her breathing and the child began to breath and i had a pulse and turned her on the side so any water that was residual left in the lungs came out. she was crying on the way on the stretcher. >> the children a little boy and a little girl both airlifted to hospitals in boston. they are expected to survive. boston police are investigating how a private party bus crashed into two pedestrians killing one of them. that accident happened on route

on sunday. police say it is unclear if the two people were attempting to cross the highway. mayor walsh says it's too early to tell if new regulations are needed for party buses. >> until we find out the circumstances i won't jump to conlosing to say we have to -- conclusion to say we have to mandate and regulate the buses. we will see what happens before we take the next step. >> the bus company released a statement saying they are cooperating fully with the police department and it's the first accident since starting the saugus man is due in court accused of trying to stab a person to death. officers responded to this area along route 1 saturday night and they found a victim with serious injuries. john sever faces several charges. the victim is in stable condition. also due in court thismonday a man police describe as a violent felon. police say 36-year-old james lyons stabbed a man outside jakeand joe's restaurant early friday morning.

hospital with serious injuries. as boston resumes new contract talks with the teachers union, there is a new proposal to make major changes. the boston municipal research bureau says changes are needed to boost quality of education. the group is pushing to lengthen the school day. they suggest overhauling the teacher evaluation and job assignment systems and having merit raises replace the current guaranteed pay increases. the globe reports contract talks begin on tuesday. the current contract ends the 31st. strong winds led to two kayakers being rescued off castle island. one of the kayakers started to take on water and began to sink yesterday. that's when a second man came over to try to bail the kayak out but it was too heavy and both ended up in the water in the choppy surf. president obama is back at the white house this morning. the first family wrapped up the two-week vacation to the vineyard yesterday. the president began the day with a hike with his wife and

vacation while in office. president obama heads to baton rouge tomorrow to get a firsthand look at the historic flooding there. the state government is now saying that more than 60,000 homes were damaged. officials say there are still many areas under water so there's good chance that number will still go up. the red cross says the flooding is the nation's worst disaster since super storm sandy in 2012. now to campaign 2016. hillary clinton is celebrating big strides in her fund raising. this is donald promises it is on track after a another week of fallen poll numbers. brian webb has the latest. >> reporter: donald trump's newly shuffled campaign staff signaled a possible shift in his stance on deporting millions of illegal immigrants sunday. >> what he supports is make sure we enforce the law and that we are fair and humane for those who live among us in this country.>> will that include a deportation for us? >> to be determined.

acrobats and juglers because that's what -- juggleers because that's what i think of -- juggler hes because that's what i think -- jugglers because that's what i think so. >> i think my mom and dad will be out there busting a move. >> as will barry and i we should go over there. >> count me in i will be there. good morning. let's see what's happening. we got a band of rain moving through so everything is quiet except for the heavier rain which is falling over parts of southeastern mass but it's not nearly as heavy as earlier. but a tornado warning did go up this morng around about middle part of the morning about 3 this morning. let's move the radar back and see what happened here. right down in parts of worcester county we started to see the national -- what the national weather service recognized as rotation. not too far from marlboro so there was damage and this cell went northeastward towards concord and there was damage in concord. we will get additional information about the path of this and it's yet to be determined whether it was an

but seems suspicious. there was quite a bit of rotation here. the national weather service will send a survey team out later this morning to see if it was and whether they will confirm whether it was a tornado or not. but the damage you are seeing so far and it's a very heavy rain so you can see the signature right in there as the weather rotation probably was in here and is moved off to the northeast. so, it's all a done deal as it moved to the middlesex county and we started to lose the signature and the rotation dwindled and all we have is severe thunderstorm northeastern massachusetts. and all we have now is the rain but here are damage reports multiple trees and power lines are down on curtis and maple street and church street and framingham and that happened around 3 or 7-- 3:07 this morning. the warning was up at that point and for concord. hard to imagine this is so rare to have a tornado them-- time of the day we had the bad tornado two years ago at the end of july around 8 in the morning. this is even worse in the

3:50 this morning trees down on alcott road and we will get more damage reports as we go through morning. but the eye-- but it did produce a lot of rain. a inch in lawrence and beverly. so and less op the cape but the rain -- on the cape where the rain and showers are get there. 1.43. about an inch out in barre according to james. and 6/10 in cambridge ac but the rain is moving offshore. a wave of low pressure moved on the front and now it's moving offshore and the dry air issweeping in from the west. the no threat of anymore -- so no threat of anymore severe weather but there will be down pours and the sun will come out. initially patches of clouds and most have disappeared with a few scattered clouds and it will be refreshing and a clear cool night tonight and tomorrow it's going to be getting up back up to 80 after chilly weather tonight.

usingez pass transponders or cameras taking a quick shot of license plates of vehicles without them. according to the boston globe, privacy concerns are on the table. the new system has the ability to alert law enforcement officials whenever specific license plates or transponders roll through. and in light of the privacy concerns, state officials have gone on the record assuring the public the high tech system would only go in effect in emergency situations alert. they are set to take up the issue today easing the worries that big brother would only be watching in situations where public safety is a factor. >> that was any cog jake os -- nicole jacobs reporting. a report says a massachusetts college leaves students with the most debt of any school in the country and it may not be the school you any. -- you think. topping the list is berkeley college of music. boston based school with alumni like quincy jones has students

new cases reported just as students get ready to head back to school today. >> live from the channel 4 studios in boston, this is wbz this morning. >> good morning everybody. and i am kate merrill. >> i am chris mckinnon thanks for joining us august 22. barry you are very busy this morning. >> this is quite a surprise this morning. we knew the atmosphere would get-a -- an extra kick this morning thinking it would enhance produced rotation up there and caused what might be a tornado which is not been confirmed by the national weather service. a survey team will be out there looking at the damage. all we have left is band of rain moving offshore from boston moving down over cape cod and islands. not as heavy as off to the north and west. temperatures are starting to go down a little bit along with humidity too. and we will end up with a very nice day. rain ends soon over southeastmass and cape cod.

this afternoon in most spots. 70sin worcester county. 12 to 28 miles per hour and it will feel refreshing. rest of the accu-weather forecast in the next seven days coming up. traffic andh together good morning. >> reporter: good morning. we have the first accident happening on route 1 chelsea in the northbound lanes right near webster avenue. this is in the northbound lanes so i don't think it will affect the morning commute. there's an accident out on 495 north at exit 22 where 495 meets the pike. there's a jackknifed truck on the ramp to the pike. so if you are getting on thepike you will have to look for an alternate route. now back to you. >> thanks very much breana. what a mess across parts of massachusetts this morning. in concord lots of reports of trees and power lines down. this picture is coming in from concord police. >> nicole jacobs is live with a closer look at the damage

damage on hawthorne lane. police tape is put up to block traffic from coming through this area. but if you look behind me, it's down this way where you see the most significant damage. a lot of trees down. but take a look at this yard here, you can see a large tree has completely uprooted completely fell onto the power lines here. now if you look at this video you can see a closer look at all of that damage. what we are learning this morning is that the national at the area to assess the damage just as emergency crews are here this morning. that's what the fire chief told me just a short time ago that he and his crews are really taking a look at what has happened here because the storm rolled through very quickly and clearly it was powerful. a lot of wind came with this storm as we were coming through to the area we saw a lot of debris scattered throughout the roadway. the good news so far is that

injuries reported as a result of this fast moving storm this morning. taking yet another live look here at this home on hawthorne lane. again, you can see a large tree completely uprooted and we did see the homeowner the woman who lives in the home come out and she spoke with emergency crews. she didn't appear to be injured and went right back into her home. clearly she is pout power at this hour -- is without power at this hour. nicole jacobs wbz this morning. brng shooting in chinatown around 3 this morning at edenboro street. emergency crews tell us they found a man who had been assaulted but not shot. the victim was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries. also breaking overnight a. series car crash in medfield. one person in critical condition. police responded to a report of a crash on high street around midnight. they found a car resting against a telephone pole with

beth israel with serious injuries. training begins this week for the boston police department's new body come are a pilot program -- camera pilot program. a hundred officers of all ages and races from all over the city have been selected to participate. they were chosen after no officers volunteered to join the program. mayor walsh expects there will be no push back against wearing the cameras now the officers have been assigned. >> you are not going to hear about large protests about wearing them e think it's really the unknown and uncertainty what does the camera mean and this week is they will get an understanding of what the cameras are all about. >> the 6 month program will start the first week of september. the mayor says they will evaluate the results and decide the future of police body cams. thousands of students are heading back to school in miami dade county where officials are dealing with a cluster of the zika virus. there are at least 5 new cases of people becoming infected through local mosquitoes. brian webb has the latest. >> reporter: into doesn't you want repellant.

thousands of runners hitting the pavement for the falmouth road race. this is the 44th year for the event. >> 7 mile very hly race kicks off at wood toll 11,000 runners took part including the world's best. kenyakenya won race and lisa hugh r dimes team. a very hot day for all those runners. beautiful for those of us watching but barry very hot for those running. >> and we fought the cape traffic coming back yesterday. >> absolutely. >> it was 11,000 runners and the 10,000 plus spectators. >> and a beautiful weekend to boot and then all of a sudden overnight, this all comes in. >> everything came falling out of the sky so to speak early this morning kate. i came to work and it was rainfalling and no light

anywhere. only like one light nick strike somewhere on the scan here and then about -- lightning strike somewhere on the scan here and then we had a severe thunderstorm warning go out. the national weather service is watching a strong storm over the outer part of the cape near or south of wellesley to east ham orleans and it's moving out so no severe thunderstorm but they say it's strong storm. we have rain left over southeastern massachusetts. not getting the coverage of the rain down there that some of the places have show you what happened. what was going on is severe thunderstorm warning went up by the national weather service and started to see rotation as it moved from marlboro and back here and started down marlboro knee sudbury and towards concord and you can see what looks to be a hook. it has not been confirmed by the national weather service

signatures and you can see going through billerica and sort of rotation weakens. that was the end of that. but the national weather service had the tornado warning up through north even middlesex and then a severe thunderstorm warning in essex county and that was it. a couple severe thunderstorm warnings southeastern massachusetts but we are done with the severe weather and we have a little rain to go through here but we have had damage from this storm so let's see where the damage occurred. for example in marlboro multiple trees and power lines avenue maple avenue and that occurred at 3:07 and in concord trees down on alcott road and probably will get additional damage reports as this moved off to the northeast. so there was rotation in the air and as soon as national weather service sees row station that's a loss no confirmation of being on the ground but there was damage. when rotation is seen on the scan they will come out with a tornado warning.

one neighbor told me the wind and rain was so strong that it shook his house and woke him up. we are learning the national weather service will send a team out here this morning to survey the storm damage. i have more on that coming up. live in marlboro anna meiler wbz this morning. breaking overnight a. serious car crash in medfield. one person in critical condition this morning. police responded to the crash the report of the crash on high street around midnight and found a car resting against damage. the driver was transported to beth israel with serious injuries. also breaking overnight police responding to a reported shooting around 3 a.m. in edinboro street. emergency crews found a man who was assaulted but not shot. the victim was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. winchester police and middlesex district attorney are investigating the death of an elderly woman. police responded to a home on edgewater place around 2

unresponsive and was taken to lahey clinic where she was pronounced dead. her nape has not been released and police were on the scene last night until 11. an arson fire that destroyed a 189 homes in northern california is now 95% contained. the 6 square mile blaze destroyed at least 300 structures and more than 1200 firefighters battled the blaze that started on august 13th. a california man is facing 14 counts of arson in connection with 11 other fires dating back to july 2015. a piece of american history found buried in a mississippi attic. the homeowner found a stack of papers including a 4 page letter written by thomas jefferson about the war of 1812. the homeowner contacted a document deal here confirmed the authenticity and turns out before jefferson could send the letter, he got word that the war had ended and he wrote a ps describing the peace.
