concord. >> that's an indication of the turning with the tornado. i saw a couple of trees that you could see how they were twisted and it was just ripping the fibers apart. >> if you can stay home or stay out of this area, that's what you should do. while the electricity has been cut, there's a lot of hanging trees and a which are hanging up high. >> the cell phone started blinking for people to take cover because it was a tornado. >> the tornadoes path of destruction was 400 yards wide and a hatch mile long. 39 homes for destroyed and one structurally. a thousand folks are without power as the cleanup is underway. >> i'm amazed, look at the house.

you can't see the backyard. and it's just -- i'm in shock. >> the most amazing thing to me is how much tree damage was done up there and thankfully, nobody was hurt and the damage to the houses within that same area is relatively light. >> and as you can see, work crews are busy, trying restore power. as of right now. 550 people are without power. i'm standing in the middle of that. and you can see how power lines have come down. and work crews are working around the block. reporting live in concord, i'm paul burton. so obviously, not all that often we see tornadoes in new england. and it's more uncommon to see

all the telltale signs are there, eric. >> middle of the night is not something that happens very often in new england. you have to be back to 1970 to have one between midnight and 5 a.m. nocturnal tornadoes are the most dangerous because people are asleep. power crews are hard at work. concord fire is making great progress and certainly a lot of work a tremendous amount of tree damage. i was impressed with the trees coming down. here's the storm survey from the national weather service. and they came out and performed the survey. they're looking for trees that fall in the opposite directions. looking for the straight line winds. ef1 tornado. on the ground, only a half mile, it was about 10 minutes

to actual time at the surface but it did produce a lot of dodge a. as we take a look at the difference. 80 to 110 miles per hour. and the ef2 and ef3, and the highest end we rarely see in new england. here's what the weather service crew is looking for a change in the damage path. instead of all the trees going in one direction a mike burst. a tornado damage swath is more circular. outside of the damage, we did see quite a bit of rainfall. impressive totals across the area. and that's it when it comes to rain. you can see the hook echo around 3 a.m. in the morning. and kudos to the weather service who got the warning off fast. there are the rain totals. an inch in tewksbury and clinton.

they were hot and somehow the emergency window opened. the company tells us they continued to cooperate with police. it's the first accident since starting the business in 1999. the company says their thoughts are with the two passengers, their family, and their friends. a dcr park ranger is accused of setting camera at a swimming spot. >> raymond mackinnon has been a park ranger for eight years. and a seasonal ranger for longer than that. he's accused of serious crimes against coworkers. >> reporter: he faces multiple charges in what prosecutors say was a covert plan to capture images and video of unsuspecting fellow workers,

bathhouse in milton. police were tipped off by a female life guard who noticed a flashing light. >> mostly life guards going to the bathroom. several of whom genitals are clearly seen on the videos. there's a video of the individual who placed the camera. >> reporter: the dcr is deeply ur and remains committed to assisting the state police. mackinnon was ordered to surrender any firearms. >> he has been suspended by the issuing authority. firearms have been taken by the police. >> late today he posted $10,000 cash bail. he had no comment as he left the courthouse. and it was closed to the public

moment. that's the tornado going through. and you can see the types of trees that came down and the scope of the damage here in concord. almost every single tree fell away from a home. i can't even tell you. it's amazing how fortunate we are that none of the trees came crashing into the middle of the house in the middle of the night. take a look at the recent tornadoes that have come this was the first since last year. there was a day when we had two. and both of those were weaker tornadoes. and those are the ones that are more typical, the ef0 and ef1. of course, the ef2 in revere just a couple years ago back in

the area. it's typical when you have a big event, the next day is gorgeous. and that's been the case. temperatures cooling off and we have dry air filtering in. 60s across new hampshire and massachusetts. still the gusty northwest breeze bringing in the drier air. it made it a little bit more difficult for crews in concord trying to clean up trees and line debris. and temperatures falling back 45 to 52 in the suburbs. and the breeze will start to get weaker. it will be crisp and cool to start the day tomorrow. otherwise, a beautiful day and we warm up around 80. and i promise you'll walk out the door and say september feels like it's already here. 75 to 80 degrees. and a west, northwesterly
