>. now at 11:00, a very rare night time tornado hits concord. as crews race to get the power back on, there's a new worry. and a holy item thieves stole. and what a man wrapped in his jersey before running out on his tab at a local bar. >. live from the channel 4 studios in st news at 11:00. new at 11:00, new concerns after a tornado touched down in the middle of the night. >> it was absolutely insane. >> the risky work for crews cleaning up the damage. >> a lot of hanging trees and fall out. >> and a worker injured during the clean up is recovering after debris from a woodchipper

are still without power. louisa is live in the concord where the worker was hurt. >> reporter: yes, the crews just retired for the night, but the clean up is still continuing, and you can see why. take a look at these massive tree trunks. there are scenes like this all over the half mile area of concord, and trees fell in all different directions. the national weather service a tornado. at dusk, parts of north concord appeared like a waste land. the jagged edges of cut trees cutting into the sky. downed wires like tangled tumble weeds. >> and the curtains in the windows started stucking out, and i -- sucking out, so i grabbed the dog.

when it all started, hearing the tornado swirling towards his neighborhood around 3:00 a.m. >> and it it was like a rumble coming through, got louder and louder, then just quit, stopped. >> reporter: and saw the havoc it wreaked on his backyard. >> i heard the trees popping like popcorn. bang, bang, bang. >> reporter: scenes like this all along the tornado's pact. it was eyehole -- pa winds gusting at 100 miles per hour. remarkably 39 homes were damaged, but not a single resident hurt. >> we thought it was an earthquake. everything was shaking, there was a lot of pressure against the walls. >> reporter: clean up crews descended on the mess chewing and spitting out limbs, slicing through trunks. a worker suffered minor

structural damage left residents marveling at their luck. >> i'm amazed because look at my house, it's still standing. and there are limbs everywhere. you canned see the backyard. >> reporter: beseeds the came -- besides the camera light, a lot of darkness in the neighborhood. 62 customers remain without power, and crews don't expect it to be back on until tomorrow. live in concord, wbz news. david, back to you. >> thank you. damage and said given the number of trees down it was amazing no one was killed during the storm. and eric fisher is just back from concord, and picks up team coverage, and eric, the time it hit was unusual. >> looking back at the tornado data base going to 19 a, 272 -- 1950, 272 tornadoes in southern new england, and two were nocturnal, and the last time it happened was 1970. it was the first confirmed

june 23rd of last year. we had a pair. take a look at the pictures from the air. walking around in here there was a tremendous amount of tree damage, and it seemed like almost every tree fell away from a home, and just remarkable luck. you would have expected to see a lot more structural damage. here's the stats from the weather service. they did the storm survey early this morning. just after 3:00 a.m. on the ground less than 10 minutes. only a half mile long path, but enough to create a bit of damage. now the story tonight, fall in the air. temperatures in the 40s for some when you wake up in the morning, so a light jacket out the door. but we'll warm to the 70s, some touching 80 in the afternoon. now at 11:00, driving up the cost of your commute. new e-tolls along the pike will have some drivers paying a

from traditional to electronic tolling, and julie loncich is live with how much more it could cost. julie? >> reporter: so paula, it will all depend on your exit number and whether or not you had one of these. you probably notice them. >> well, i know they have the new thing over here. >> reporter: called a gantry. >> okay. >> reporter: but you may not have known what to make of them. >> reporter: earlier this year they started installing the metal gantries in anticipation of the brand new toll booth- free initiative. the booths come down, and you'll be looking up. they'll calculate the tolls using the transponder, and depending on your exit it could differ. from framingham to boston the

boths are definitely coming down at the end of october. live in austin, julie loncich, wbz news, back to you. thanks. the two women hit by a party bus early sunday morning in east boston fell out of a window, then the bus ran over one of women and killed her. the company doesn't know how the window opened. the driver that hit and killed a woman in a lowell parking lot apparently never saw her according to police. the man was backing up and hit the 70-year-old, and right now is not facing any charges. >. were tonight two women accused of robbing a none over her rosary beads at knife point. we're live near the convent in quincy tonight, and despite the violence here, the sisters are offering forgiveness? >> reporter: david, that's right. the none was robbed in the

behind me, and as you mentioned her superior says through it all they still believe in forgiveness. it was broad daylight on a sunday when two women robbed a none walking near her convent. >> as soon as she saw the rosary she backed up and took the rosary, and she put the knife away. >> reporter: mother olga is the none superior at st. john's convent. the didn't have any money. >> she said okay i'll take the beads. >> reporter: it was the rosary that saved much of them. >> and it saved the woman from committing more crimes. >> reporter: the none wasn't wearing her habit when robbed, and later the two women matching the description were found. they had six cell phones, but not the beads. they were arraigned monday on charges of armed robbery.

a local woman awarded for her sportsmanship in rio. abby dagostino made headlines for helping a fallen runner. they completed did race together, and received the olympic fair play award at the games. of course she's recovering from a knee injury, and she deserved that award. >> you just enjoy seeing that. >> awesome. >> the whole spirit of thing. in the meantime we have these beautiful days, day after day, and then last night concord. >> yeah, eric, the big headline was the actual tornado, but with it came quite a bit of rain. >> yeah, no other severe storms moving through, and we did see heavy downpours. of course it was much-needed rain fall because it's so dry, but look at the totals coming in. well over an inch of total rain. boston still looking at its driest summer on record, but it's close.
