two towns. at least 11 people -- debris littering the streets of two towns. >> reporter: italian officials say ies a -- it's a 6.# and u.s -- 6.1 and u.s. official measure it 6.# it hit central italy including rome after 3:30 their time. the pictures show a tremendous amount of devastation with buildings completely leveled. while people were inside asleep in their beds. they are dealing with aftershocks as well. some reportedly coming in as strong -- coming in as strong as 5.1. this is a live look at rescue efforts there. crews have moved in and there is a desperate attempt to find survivors in all of that rubble. reports of a family of four trapped in a home in one of the hardest hit areas and we are sure to hear some stories like

officials are saying the death toll right now is between 11 and that's with the hardest hit areas. officials with the u.s. state department of travel are askingu.s. citizens who are safe to check in with family via social media. again the rescue efforts as you just saw remain underway right now. we will continue to keep you updated on the very latest in the breaking story throughout the morning. in the satellite center nicole jacobs wbz this moin missile in to the sea. south korean officials say it was fired from a submarine this morning and flew about 310 miles. that's the longest flight by that type of weapon and puts it in range hitting much of south korea. the launch happened as south korea and u.s. are conducting their annual military drills. also breaking overnight a tractor trailer crash in sullivan square sending debris all over the road. police are still on the scene this morning. crews are working to try to

ambulance. no word on their condition. traffic is being impacted this morning. we will bring you updates throughout the morning as crews work on the scene. a convicted sex offender due in court charged in the rape of a woman at a boston playground. police arrested 31-year-old eduardo rodriguez yesterday afternoon. investigators say he he had cut off the -- say he had cut off the gps monitoring device was wearing as pat of probation e approached the victim on a bi her he had a knife and forced her to walk nearly half a mile to a nearby playground where he assaulted her. the victim was instrumental in helping officers track down her accused attacker. >> just want to thank her very much for having the courage to step forward and work with us to get this dangerous felon off the street.

massachusetts state police are trying to figure out how to get a small plane off the sand bar. pilot was forced to land there after some kind of mechanical issue. he was not injured. water levels at the quabbin are low cue to the drought and may imay have, posed the sand bar allowing the pilot to land safely. man is in the hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a tree limb in brookline. a tree can youing crew wa when the branch fell and hit a dealership employee a woman who works nearby says she asked the landscaping company before the accident why the area was not roped off. >> one of the guys was telling me they don't have any like tape around or any cones that they use to prevent the people that whatever they working they doing over there. >> police say the victim is a 29-year-old man who had to have surgery.

and his family. police are investigating how a worker in roxbury fell three stories. boston firefighters telling us he was at scaffold weg fell yesterday afternoon -- scaffolding when he fell yesterday afternoon. a woman and her son stabbed while on vacation she and her 14-year-old son have been discharged from the hospital and are expected to fully recover. her 16-year-old son confessed to the attack and is now police custody a gofundme page has been set up to help with the family's expenser. a worry for those cleaning up from tore the tornado. several people pretedding to be contractors have apropped -- i -- pretending to be contractors have approached the area to make repairs. the tornado damaged dozens of homes and police say only use state licensed workers and always ask for identification. boston police officers are being trained on the city's new body cameras program.

today. this week is about getting officers used to the cameras. what they are for and how to use them. participating officers were chosen randomly by a police consultant. 55% are white, 29% are black and 13% are hispanic. and 3% are asian. former massachusetts senator scott browned tells wbz he didn't sexually harass a former fox news host that. lawsuit filed against the ousted fox news ceo andrea tantaros claims that brown made several inappropriate comments and he grabbed her from behind in a cafeteria he says it caught him by surprise. >> someone who is a survivor of sexual abuse i don't participate in conduct or action that is would perpetuate that activity. >> 20 other women have come forward with sexual harassment

mistake. there were 446 cases of contaminated drugs devices or biologics. that hospital says it has fixed the issues. woman's group is drawing parallels between a sex assault kate in east longmeadow and one from stanford that made international headlines. in the east longmeadow case david becker pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting two slee c party. he will serve two years probation instead of jail time. >> i think there's a strong outcry because there's a perception among public we are not taking the cases seriously and protecting the women. sentencing shows other people other victims of sexual assault that if they say something, no justice is going to happen. >> becker has to avoid drugs and alcohol and attend counseling. if he stays out trouble in the next two years he will have no criminal record and won't have
