law enforcement career is over. ken? >> reporter: lisa, minutes after that happened in may, trooper andrew monaco went to his superior and said he probably ruined the rest of his life, getting carried away and going way overboard with the car chase suspect. in court, the message had not changed. >> i apologize to the members of law enforcement especially those that were there that day during the incident for my actions, but most importantly, i apologize to the citizens of new hampshire. >> reporter: that was the former state trooper andrew monaco pleading guilty to three counts of simple assault for this incident on may 11. prosecutorssay that other cops were arresting suspect richard simon after a long chase when monaco began punching and kneeing the suspect even though

couple of years because it was abandoned. they couldn't get him to do anything with it or clean it up and they had him in court, and ironically, there was a court hearing today and they reached a murder, if you will, on what to do with it when the fire broke out. they don't know what started the fire but there may have been squatters inside and the result, a fire that jumped to adjacent three buildings were destroyed and another uninhabitable. homeless and this boy lost his school uniform. >> and then it started to get out of control and to other houses. >> reporter: for two years, the owner of the house was contacted by the city to demolish it, and they were just about there. >> they were scheduled for a hearing today and the process

guilty to giving the girl drugs and faces 20 years in prison. sad news about this head-on collision in mendon. the passenger has died. authority says that the 57-year- old died this morning. the driver of the car is still in the hospital. no of the kids in the bus was hurt and the crash is still under investigation. breaking news in mississippi. two catholic nuns found just learned that one of them used to live in massachusetts. a police officer found the nuns when they didn't report to work at a nearby hospital. one of the victims, sister paula merrill, was born and raised in massachusetts. we know that both up ins were nurse practitioners, and investigators are not sure if the religious work had anything to do with the motive. more on that coming up.

in italy, the rescuers are racing to find people trapped in the rubble after a 6.2 quick that killed at least 250 people and leveled three small towns. many other buildings are considered too dangerous for anyone to go inside with hundreds of aftershocks. there was also a massive clean up effort in this country after a dozen tornadoes touched down in indiana. storm chasers took this video of a twister in kokomo. one was an ef3 with winds up to 165 miles per hour and here, somebody took video of a starbucks that collapsed during the violent storm and this morning, indiana governor and vice presidential candidate mike pence toured the damage and incredibly, no serious injuries. with the heat this an, -- afternoon you really had to get out. it was so nice this morning.

and the heat and it was less pleasant. >> a little more humid out there and more humid overnight. a crisp start to the week and ending on a summer-like note and we got an update to the drought monitor. no changes, and there is a slight addition in massachusetts but for all intents and purposes, pretty much in the same boat with 1- 1.5" in worst drought conditions centered in boston, over the north shore to southeastern new hampshire. where does it stock up? -- stack up? where are the start and end points in if you look at august t hasn't been especially dry. 1.72" the 23rd driest on record but if you look at the summer, june, july, and august altogether, it's the number one driest.

12th driest. it's been dry but you can change how you look at it over time up and if you look across the region, big differences. hartford, the 6th driest on record, and worcester at 17 and providence at 42. we are all dry across southern new england and the heat helps to dry things out. up in the 80s again, and watching a few spotty showers trying to ve new hampshire. you will feel a sprinkle and that's. it and you can see the cloud pattern rough stating across the seaboard. and tonight, very humid and a warm start to the day tomorrow, and a decent amount of cloud cover tonight and a couple of spontaneous showers that develop and most towns will stay dry, and we'll see if a couple can develop in the

tomorrow, sunshine and heating, and then by lunch, a few showers and storms starting to develop. the atmosphere tomorrow, not great for big storms. normally, you are not routing for big severe weather but we'll see a few downpours and maybe thunder and lightning and focusing on far eastern and southeastern massachusetts. all that will dry up by 6:00 to 6:30 tomorrow evening and if you have plans nothing there. the humidity, we have dew points approaching 70 tomorrow, and as we head into the weekend, relief, dropping back in the 50s. the main player, high pressure moving overhead for saturday and sunday and an on shore breeze making it comfortable near the coastline and the bottom line is warm, dry, sunny, no weather issues. 85 inland on saturday and 80 at the coast and 86 on sunday, and

and make those decisions on your own without supervision. >> reporter: what about the freshmen who are a long way from home, one from kenya, one from iran and one from the philippines? >> there are a lot of new factors in play for college for international students since you don't know the area at all. so it can be overwhelming at times. >> reporter: these ladies have at least one strategy to help them keep their sanity. >> better >> so mit is requiring incoming freshmen to complete an online program teaching them about the warning signs before they take a class. and mit has had a lot of problems with suicide, higher than average. so they are really making an effort to reach out. >> and i commend them for getting to the bottom of it and

breaking news at 5:30. a little boy rescued in chelmsford saved from this backyard pool. investigators tell us that the him out after they realized he had slipped under the water. that boy was breathing on his own and semi conscious when police and firefighters arrived. paramedics flew him to the hospital in boston with no word on his condition. and a catholic nun born and raised in massachusetts was murdered in mississippi. >> the officer went to check on the two nuns when they didn't

both nuns are also nurse practitioners. investigators are not sure if their religion had anything to do with the crime. and at 5:30, friends say she was an innocent victim, a teen girl shot in dorchester and not the intended target. the 18-year-old is in the hospital. >> officers rushed to the mcclellan street home to find the wounded teenager. beth germano has more. beth? >> next thing you know, shots were fired. >> reporter: bullet vehicles and windows and pierced homes on mcclellan street in dore -- dorchester. when it was over, dashaye mizhari was critically injured, an innocent bystander as police try and determine who was behind the shooting. her aunt did not want to be identified. >> she ran home and ran inside screaming i'm shot.
