two time olympic medalist ryan lochte is facing charges in brazil for lying about being robbed. charged with filing a fake police report. ryan lochte admitted he was drunk at the time and apologized for embellishing the story. five-year-old boy hospitalized after nearly drowning. a family friend saved him. tonight emergency workers are reminding residents of the value of >> reporter: this is the third near drowning within the past 5 days and as the boy recovers new questions about how first responders and parents can keep these children safe. >> reporter: a 5-year-old boy visiting nearly drowns in a pool. police say he was semi conscious and breathing after he was pulled from the water.

father told wbz news his daughter performed cpr. >> the decision is on you. the faster you make the decision and the right decision then the better the possible outcome. >> reporter: he is familiar with making split decisions. he was one of three firefighters who worked to save a boy and girl. they almost drowned last saturday. >> having one child unresponsive is it does take you back. >> reporter: when they arrived a nurse was already working on one child. he says the more cpr knowledge residents learn the better. >> put the child on the back. find the center of the chest, hands in the center, push hard and fast till medical -- first responders get there. even if you don't know it call 911 will also get you the information that you need know

all, and who want their borders secured are not racists. >> reporter: donald trump spent time in manchester bashing hillary clinton's use of a private e-mail server and questions surrounding donations to the clinton foundation. hillary clinton did not make any remarks on either of those topics today. louisa moller, wbz news. tonight aftershocks rattling italy er people were killed -- 250 people were killed in the earthquake. using dogs to help find survivors. some people have been allowed back into their homes to pick up essentials. tonight emergency crews in indiana saying an early warning system saved lives during a tornado outbreak. thousands of people received texts and phone calls minutes before the twisters touched down in howard county.

the national weather service says one tornado is confirmed ef-3. 165 miles per hour winds. a former new hampshire pleads guilty and apologizes for beating a man and it played out on a police chief. in may he led police on a chase from massachusetts into new hampshire. prosecutors say the driver surrendered but andrew monaco's emotions got the best of >> i regret my actions. i cannot explain why -- [ indiscernible ] >> andrew monaco will pay the suspect's medical bills, his career in law enforcement is over. a massachusetts trooper is also facing charges. tonight police are searching for the gunman who shot a teenager and a dog. dashaye mizhari is expected to survive. police say she wasn't the target.

an argument that broke out on the street. the dog also shot there. liam martin explains one of the officers had a personal reason for helping the dog. >> reporter: he is 10 months old and just took a bullet for his owner. >> that dog put himself in front of his owner and took a bullet. >> reporter: when officers ariverred of the shooting of the woman -- arrived at the shooting they also found the dog his owner said he jumped in front. >> panting, druling. he was possibly in shock. >> reporter: the officer and two other officers rushed him to the hospital, they were told surgery would be necessary. it would be expensive and the owner didn't have the means to

to somebody in need. and dogs are family. >> reporter: and for the officer they really are. >> it is okay. >> reporter: four years ago his dog saved his mother from a train tugging her out of the way and losing her leg in the process. >> she saved my mom's life. >> reporter: she became an internet sensation and a symbol of the connection between dog and and i don't think they get the credit they deserve sometimes. >> reporter: the dog injured had to undergo surgery on the leg, he is expected to be okay. a hero last night. >> nice story. liam martin, thank you very much. the outcry over the fight for an epi pin. the deal to make it more widely available and why so many families are upset.

people waiting for a bus needed a lot of patience in phoenix. a water main break caused a sink hole that swallowed the bus. there weren't any passengers on board at the time but the intersection was closed and all buss had to be rerouted. fire in lawrence at building the mayor has been fighting for years to be torn down. 13 families now looking for a place to live. the building caught fire at 2:00 a.m. this morning. the flames spreading to five others. most residents were asleep when the fire escalated to four alarms. >> fire at first but then it started getting out of control, getting to other houses.

thinking labor day is next weekend, summer just keeps on going. summer night on cape cod, up in the lifeguard chair looking out over the sun. a lot of those nights across the area this summer. august. all the red squares. above average temperatures. every day since the third. t second half of july looked the same. and very dry. go back to january 1, these are our standings for driest year on record. boston number 12. worcester 17. providence number 42. none are near the top spot however our problem is it is a two year drought. spring of 2015. over two years we built up very

warm. temperatures up into the 70s. they won't drop much. tomorrow we are watching this front and hopefully squeezing out rain here. even though it is a friday we are not going to complain about rain in the forecast over the next few months. by tomorrow morning, looking at a chance for isolated showers popping up. widely scattered. most towns dry. chance for isolated rain. lunchtime, hazy conditions. more scattered showers develop and we could see thunder and lightning into the afternoon. i think our best odds are eastern massachusetts. closer to had coast -- the coast line. and south coast and cape down pours and thunder and lightning by 7:00 p.m. not ripe for organized severe weather. i don't think we will look at widespread damage. just trying to get rain generated during the afternoon. hour by hour we start in the 70s. muy, warm. we will make a run at 90
