live from the channel 4 studios in boston, this is wbz news at 11:00. >> at 11:00, frightening moments for people on board a duck boat as the driver discovers the dangers of trying to go underneath a low overpass. good evening, i am ken macleod. fortunately, no one on board with duck boat was hurt the duck boat itself is another story. chantee lans is live along storrow drive with a look. ep everyone on board is okay. this is the overpass where that duck boat hit. although no one is injured, it made a scary night on that boat. chaos and fear among writers of the historic -- riders of the historic duck boat's. firefighters say no injuries to the 20 on board that obvious signs of damage after the

canopy. state police say the boat was driving near mass pioneer hospital. a letter was used to help passengers off. another duck boat pick them up and the previous duck boat was able to drive away. the duck boat company released this statement tonight saying it is grateful no one was hurt and says a first-year driver was diverted off the normal route because beacon street was closed. while the driver's actions were not intentional, they say they will be room -- they will be reviewed. chantee lans wbz news . firefighters rushing to downtown southbridge as flames came from a two-story building. this wasn't the only fire in the city. jim smith is live in southridge for us. what we want to know is are these fires somehow connected?>> reporter: that is the question of the hour tonight to say the least here

fire crews are still at the scene of the first big firebrick that is the big one that broke out early in the afternoon but that is only part of the story. tonight, it turns out there was another fire not very far away. a long busy sunday stretched into the night in southbridge as emergency crews rushed to yet another fire. a house erupting in flames only hours after a gigantic fire broke out downtown. that earlier multi-alarm fire for through a huge brick building with apartments on top and businesses on the bottom. a few firefighters were heated -- treated for heat exhaustion but no one was hurt in either fire. now, investigators have question. >> here a couple years ago, we did have an arsonist who was lighting multiple buildings on fire at that time. i do not know if that is happening today. that is why we will use all the assets that the state has to

>> reporter: the downtown fire displaced about a dozen residents and damaged a number of businesses including a thrift shop dedicated to helping the needy. the shop manager did salvage something crucial. >> we had just gotten about $1000 worth of toys for toys for tots for christmas and these guys started pulling them out but they are all good. >> reporter: not everyone was that lucky. some businesses are in ruins. >> my address is -- my hairdresser is on the bottom floor. they just did everything over. it's a shame. i saw em them a hug and they were crying. i feel so bad for them. >> reporter: so once again, fortunately no serious injuries from either of these fires but now comes investigation. live in southbridge, jim smith wbz news. a three alarm fire destroyed this historic farmhouse in northborough. the coverage model house dates back to 1800. more recently, it has been home to a northborough firefighter and his family.

firefighter on scene had to be treated for an ankle injury. no word yet on how the flames started. new at 11:00, ashby police just released the name of a man and woman killed in a murder- suicide. investigators say on friday afternoon, john griffin stabbed his ex-wife several times and then took his own life. officers say even though the couple had been divorced for more than 25 years, rebecca griffin would come over often to john's home and help him with errands. manchester new hampshire police are still -- are investigating a suspicious death. somebody walking around prout park discovered a man's body about 6 am. investigators haven't released any information about the case, not even a cause of death. shock and sadness. a central massachusetts community is reeling from the loss of a beloved high school football player. 18-year-old austin robbins was a passenger in a car that veered off the road and hit several trees. paul burton spoke to his

just shock. >> it's awful this happened. >> reporter: students lay a football, helmet, jersey and flowers as they try to cope with the loss of their fellow classmate, friend and teammate, number 71, austin robbins known as aj. >> he was always happy and cared about everybody else. >> reporter: the 18-year-old was killed early saturday morning when the car he was a passenger in lost control and crashed. >> i couldn't believe it. >> police say 19-year-old joseph kapp will gardner into several trees on hollis road, killing aj and injuring a second passenger, sean mcniff. heather hunt was with aj the night he was killed. >> reporter: he graduated in may and his teammates say he was a leader in the football team. >> he wasn't just another player. he helped bring the team together. >> reporter: throughout the

along with two loving parents. aj leaves behind two younger brothers, tyler who will be in the seventh grade, and derek who will be a freshman in high school. >> his younger brother is on the team. there is a huge loss. there is a lot of grieving that is going to happen over the next few days and weeks, months. >> reporter: a family, a school, and a community now dealing with this terrible tragedy. >> we watched them grow up from kindergarten to here and we hope they have a promising future and then it's gone. >> reporter: the driver of the car is facing vehicular homicide charges. in salem, a new newspaper box for the rainbow times. a crowd gathered as the publisher revealed that box. surveillance cameras captured seven people putting explosives in the old box and running away

the hospital tonight after this accident on the eastbound pike. the range rover they were in rolled over just before 1:00 near exit 13. paramedics flew the 11-year-old and a six month-year-old to tufts medical center. two adults and a third child were not injured. a teenager is in serious condition after a diet -- after a bike accident on the cape. he fell down an embankment while riding deep in the woods. paramedics flew the teenager to mass general. muscles are slowly disappearing from the gulf of maine. their hefty population has decreased by more than 60% over the past 40 years. blue muscles are used in many seafood dishes but they are also important in filtering back area and other toxins out of the water. the host of sunday morning is getting ready to say goodbye.

effect on the coastline here in new england. the first one we want to show you is what is going on with hurricane gaston. this is our first major hurricane of the season and it is a category three. max speeds at 120 miles per hour. of this has strengthened since i updated you earlier tonight and it is fairly stationary at this point in time. it will stay well to the east for our friends in bermuda and it will track into the northern part of the atlantic. we have tropical depression right off the carolinas with max wins 35 miles per hour. this one heading toward the outer banks and strengthening into a tropical storm. expecting some heavy rain, gusty winds, and you know the drill. what we would get with a tropical storm. this is moving to the north and east. beyond wednesday, a little uncertainty. so far, new england could see impacts. those two storms along the beaches monday and tuesday. the increasing surf and a low

keep that in mind if you will be out swimming tomorrow or on the beach. tropical depression 9 has formed between cuba and florida with max wins 35 miles per hour. this one is expected to cover around back toward florida. perhaps, moving to the carolinas at the tail end of the week. we are very uncertainty as to its exact track. we will keep you up to date. stay tuned. for us, it is very difficult to we are the driest summer on record so far in boston. we picked up 3.92 inches of rain and we don't have a lot of rain in the forecast as we wrap up august. tonight, we do have a cool front moving in but it doesn't really trigger too many showers. very dry air has to kind of move out before we can get some moist, higher humidity level air . that doesn't happen until monday afternoon. we also have the potential for

looking less and less likely for widespread soaking rain. monday, dew point temperatures you see will increase into the mid-60s but then after that front moves through monday night, we lower back into the 50s. it becomes drier for the rest of the first half of the week. temperatures now in the 70s and 60s. 66 degrees in totten, overnight dipping into the 60s. some patchy fog under mostly clear to partly cloudy skies as a cold front pr the 90s. not experiencing that onshore flow. even along the beach, 81 degrees to 86 degrees with the high tide at 9:32 am. temperatures in the 80s for those of you who are not starting school yet on the cape and islands. our seven-day forecast shows the roller coaster trend. we go back down do 85 degrees -- to 85 degrees but temperatures only in the 70s as we start labor day weekend. >> i kind of like it.
