question at this hour. investigators tell us the gun was legally owned but the two boys were somehow able to get their hands on it and then one of them got shot. >> reporter: police returned to the scene wednesday night. gathering evidence, coming back. a spot where the unthinkable happened. a boy, 11-years-old shot in the face accidentally. the victim somehow got a hold of a hand gun and inthgun went off -- the gun went off. >> the kid was covered with blood in the face. they were playing together. >> reporter: the victim was rushed to the hospital and then airlifted to a boston hospital where he was listed in stable condition. it is unclear if an adult was home at the time. the da said the gun was legally
