an investigation into a suspicious man who approached a woman out for a jog ended just the way police were hoping, is it turns out the driver was just trying to be nice. >> the good samaritan stopping because he thought this woman could use a bottle of water. >> reporter: people in shirley were on high alert when a post went sigh ral on facebook warning people to be on the lookout for a man in a green van. a woman says she was jogging alone down hazen road around 10:00 tuesday morning when a van drove t the road. her friend says happened next, raised red flags. >> he said would you like some water. she's like that's weird. and he was -- and she was like backing up to get away from him. then she saw someone in the back, she's like that's even stranger. so she high tailed it to get away from him. she called the authorities. >> reporter: police say that driver is a 71-year-old vet ron who lives in town and transports handicap people to medical appointments which is exactly what he was doing at the time. >> the gentleman he was

southeast of apalachicola. it's about 175 miles south of that town right now. it's going to make landfall as a minute mull hurricane as it looks right now. that will be the first landfall, falling hurricane in the state of florida in almost 11 years. that's an unbelievable statistic. the last one to strike florida was wilma back in 2015. -- 2005. this moved right along the carolina coast during tomorrow and then just offshore a little bit. from there it gets trapped in the atmosphere. it can't go east, it can for quite a few days. it may actually lose some tropical characteristics and then regain them, whatever. the story is what impact is it going to have on us. as it whirls around, some of the bands of rain will spiral in here. we will have some high seas, rough sees seas. and perhaps northeast gales as well with the wind i didn'test weather on cape -- windy evident weather on cape cod.

on hand to help students cope. this is the scene of a tragedy in abingdon. inside this lynnwood street home. >> i've never seen anything like it. >> reporter: residents here didn't see what happened but they would see aftermath. >> i saw the kid in the ambulance and he was just covered with blood on the face. >> reporter: according to the district attorney, two young boys got ahold of a handgun. in the end one of them, an 11 year old, was shot in the face. >> it's a fair thing to say that we believe it was not not try to intentionally hurt somebody. >> reporter: the superintendent of abingdon public schools confirms both boys are students at woods dale school where counselors are poised to assist. meantime, neighbors told wbz no parents were home at the time of the shooting but say both families are respectable. >> they are a fantastic family, so it's just been a big mistake. >> reporter: the gun was legally owned and the owner is

while the situation remains under investigation. >> it's still has happened and we have to deal with the aftermath of that. >> reporter: at last check, the boy was in stable condition after being airlifted to boston. his neighbors remain shaken and worried. >> you don't expect anything like that to happen here. >> reporter: at this point authorities have not said which of the two boys might have pulled the trigger here. again, still an accidental shooti remains in stable condition. wee flye abingdon. >> nicole, thank you very much. today, jet blue is apologizing after two young boys were flown to the wrong cities by themselves. jet blue says the boys were traveling from the dominican republic. one was heading to new york, the other to boston. but the airline somehow switched them around. the daily news says the boys were both five. the new york mother tells the paper she thought her son had

children were always under the care and supervision of jet blue crew members we realize the situation was distressing for the families. they have refunded their flights and offered credits toward future flights. police are investigating are where -- where criminal charges should be filed. yesterday a car rear-ended an airport shuttle bus near logan. a man and woman from texas were killed after being thrown from that shuttle. it was heading to a hotel in revere the car's driver, a 27 year old man is still in the hospital this noon. joseph rodriguez was killed in the shuttle crash. his wife is being treated. a go fund me page has been set up. the family says the couple had just arrived in boston for a vacation. they say any donations will be used for medical expenseds toon bring rodriguez's body home. the owner ever a apartment building is being cited today

weather service it's a done deal, the meteorological summer is over with. this is the first day of meteorological fall. it is september 1st. but 3.92, very, very dry summer. terrible situation going on here in much of the region. we need rain. of course it turned out to be the warmest august on record as well. looking ahead to september, we cool off. we get less daylight, sun sets are earlier. 77 d temperatures. sun sets go down as well. and it gets earlier and earlier. highs this afternoon, lower 80s well off to the north and west of boston. but mostly middle 70s to the south where it's staying cloudy. off to the north and west it's going to -- going to brighten up a little bit. it may come out in northern massachusetts as the afternoon goes along as continued scattered showers continue to break out in areas mainly south of the mass pike later in the

clear tonight. just the slightest chance of a brief shower during tomorrow afternoon. we should have some beautiful weather here for saturday before the high clouds come out from the south from that approaching storm. so lows tonight 58 to about 64. a little cooler in western new england where it's mostly clear. and then high temperatures tomorrow should be in the lower 70s to middle 70s long the coast. middle to upper 70s inland with that partly sunny sky. not too much wind will be coming right on shore to keep cooler. there goes the front offshore. we're watching hermine down here and what it means to florida is quite a wind and rain event coming up first landfalling hurricane there in 11 years, it's coming up tonight at 65 miles per hour winds. on the east coast we have a tropical storm warning now which has been extended all the way up to southern portion, southern half of north carolina. so the track brings it up here making landfall is a minimal hurricane this evening up just

storm then sort of hugs the coastline and then moves offshore. from there it gets trapped in the atmosphere. it can't deposit anywhere, so it's going to wobble and whirl and do loops out here for a few days. so it looks -- appears at this point we are going to be in for some rain as it's going to be a lot on the eastern seaboard here tucked along the coast. and that rin will come up to new england, eventually spiral in here. it looks as this comes up here, it's going to start looping and looping. so to be precisely accurate gh could get, it may be very small area or it may expand a little bit more. i think it's going to be expanding as the late weekend goes along. the so potential is for high seas and rough surf. periods of heavy rain in some of these spiral bands do come in. it's not going to be a hurricane but we'll have to watch it closely. whens this the rainiest -- most rain and wind around, it will be the coolest on monday, in the 60s. tomorrow sand saturday beautiful
