cbsboston.com. move-in madness. today in allston, today renters are finding unwelcomed surprises in their new apartment. today, inspection screws hit the streets to make sure students have safe housing. christina hager is live in boston where the move-in is ongoing. christina? >> reporter: about 60 boston city inspectors were out here helping and checking on students as they were moving in. they are checking and apartments. they are also checking on things like this. trash just piled up as far as the eye can see on city sidewalks. sidewalks are jammed with junk. inspectors cautioning students moving in. mattresses are everywhere, including under a man in a santa suit, mattress surfing off the back of a van. it was clear mattress christmas

tonight is a bee invasion in pennsylvania. >> take a look at this. this is the city hall in carbondale. honey bees have made the building their new home, and the stinging situation is so bad, the first floor where the police department is located is now off limits. city leaders have called in bee experts, but they say anyone whul problem and remove them is welcome. national guard helicopters stuck in the mud. the pilot had to make an emergency landing in cove, texas for a minor incident so set it down in a muddy field. 12 hours later, still there. crews are working with the plane to free the helicopter. check out this unusual sight in portland, oregon. a sasquatch walking kids to

rainfall. this ises the driest in the city of boston. going back to 1872, so rainfall is something we need. we've had a few showers and downpours out there today. then we're going to watch hermine move up the coastline. it should bring us at least some rainfall as we head into the weekend, especially late in the holiday weekend. here is the sat late picture. this is the best it's looked the entire life cycle. it is wrapped around the center in the last couple it looked like an eye might even try to form before last call. it's not good news for florida. you can see the rain and all of it wrapping around it. you can see tornadoes and band. that would be a threat as we let into tonight across florida and georgia. a serious situation for them. as it tracks northeast it would move along the eastern seaboard into saturday. as we move into the weekend, it looks like it will stall about due east of atlantic city.

several days. we're talking sunday into monday and tuesday and into wednesday. while it stalls it's going to weaken over time. it's also going to turn up a lot of surf. the reason for the breaking, we've got a ridge of high pressure that builds up over the top and acts as a lid and gets cut off from the steering currents. it's just going to drift for about four or five days off the coast of new england. timing things out, tomorrow beautiful day. we're talking sunshine and low humidity tomorrow. saturday a fine day, too, especially as we head into northern new england. we get a good amount of sunshine. it stays dry all day. clouds build south of boston as the day wears on. into sunday, the storm stalls and we start to get rain moving in on sunday. the best chance will be across connecticut, rhode island and southeastern massachusetts. we stay dry for much of the

for this holiday weekend. it starts to get gusty at the coast. our best chance for rainfall is labor day itself on monday. so we expect high surf, rip currents and some beach erosion is likely with easterly winds, that will become northeasterly on monday. the best rain chances, i do think we could get over an inch of rainfall possibly over 2 inches of rainfall, especially toward cape cod. expecting less than a half inch at that ti mile-per-hour gusts. it's looking like the most likely scenario for us. the strongest winds would be sunday into monday. flash flooding with heavier downpours. damaging wind gusts will not be a big problem for us. coastal flooding is minor. the rough seas and erosion will be the biggest overall concern. deutsche bank is going on. late day showersnd sunday. monday is the day where conditions can get very

we head into sunday and then monday is just a dreary, wet day. we'll be in the 60s. some of the gusts up to 40 miles per hour. here is our accuweather seven- day forecast as you look into next week. it really depends on where it drifts. if it's right near the shoreline it stays cool. it's really a matter of where it's going. >> we needed the rain but would stall south and just give us the rain. just throw in way. >> eric, thanks. a potential breakthrough in the treatment of alzheimer's. researchers say they discovered a drug that can clear some of the toxic plaque deposits from the brains of alzheimer's patients. scientists say that plaque plays a crucial role in triggering the onset of the disease. the larger study is under way to put that drug to the test. you could be hard wired apparently to crave coffee.

some strong surf over the holiday weekend. here's the latest on hermine. the storm has strengthened into a category-1 hurricane. it's expected to make landfall in florida as early as tonight. the florida governor is calling it life-threatening. we want to get right to chief meteorologist eric fisher who is closely watching this storm tonight. eric? >> i'm not liking what i'm seeing over the last couple of hours. i in stronger before it makes landfall. right now, 75 mile-per-hour sustained winds, moving up toward apalachicola. that's when it's expected to make that landfall. there's always a chance of landfall in a tropic ale system.

get into late saturday and sunday, it stops. full stop east of atlantic city. there it will remain for several days just drifting here, slowly weakening over time. the problem is, if it sits in one spot for a long time, it has the chance to whip up the surf and produce damaging winds. the winds could gust over 06 miles per hour i think the jersey shore in particular could be a bad thing this weekend. when it comes for us, we're looking at a dry friday, actually, a beautiful day tomorrow. we're dry, the clouds start to increase. as we head into sunday, the storm drifts a little farther northward. the winds will increase, especially across cape cod and the islands, and we'll get rain bands and showers moving up, especially southeastern massachusetts, connecticut, and rhode island. monday, labor day brings us the
