the grayest skies and strongest wind gusts will be a gale threat. the strongest wind winds toward the south coast. we could get over 2 inches of rain across far southeastern parts of the state. if your weekend plans take you north, very little if any rain is expected. the winds will be not as strong, either. pamela gardner has a look behind the scenes with the new technology and new ways behind the scenes. >> this is something cool, eric that we want to ar here are 3d images from nasa with the measurement satellite. these were taken on wednesday. the estimated rates of almost 10 inches of rain per hour were on the southwestern part of hermine's center. we want to show you pictures of what's been going on in st. petersburg, florida, the outer bands have already caused flooding. that's as 2 to 6 inches of rain fell. hurricane warnings are out for

is live in milford tonight. ryan, i know police just released surveillance images of the truck. >> reporter: david, we just got a new update a couple of minutes ago from milford police. we've learned the driver has been located and turned himself in to police. i'm joined by deputy chief jim herron. what can you tell us about what happened in the last five minutes? >> we had put out in the field for the public to help us locate the truck. apparently, a friend of this truck driver recognized the reached out to him, and the gentleman turned himself in just a few minutes ago to the state police in the middleborough barracks. the check is located at his residence. they are securing the truck now and making arrangements to get the gentleman here to interview him and continue with the investigation. >> reporter: this was a 64- year-old woman, a pedestrian who died on the street.

going on this afternoon? >> she went into the bank to conduct business, came out a few minutes later and was struck. >> reporter: every dids where you look people are checking out the scene wanting to know what happened here. what kind of impact does this have during the rush hour in the middle of town? >> it was quite the scene as thousands pass through. it's like a parking lot on main street that time of day. a lot of people were out. they saw it, and they appeared it's not a great sight to see. we had main street blocked and secure. we had the ambulance passing by that stopped and rendered aid. they declared her deceased at the scene. we have eyewitnesses, video surveillance of the accident, so it's clear to us, you know, how it happened and what

deeply disturbing. we are thankful that the child is now back with his family. we have proactively reached out to local authorities to assist in the investigation in any way we can." david? paula, a scathing report today details a rampant history of sexual abuse at an elite rhode island boarding school. the investigator says st. george's in newport was a "private hell for some students." the report find as the least one out of every five female school's athletic screener in the 1970s. he was later fired and has since passed away. the report finds ten other school ploys have used 51, and police are unable to have charges in the case for a variety of reasons. paula? abington police confirm tonight an 11-year-old boy shot another 11-year-old boy in the face. the question for investigators

lynn wood street yesterday afternoon after the shooting. the boy was later medflighted to children's hospital in boston where he is doing well tonight. police say the gun was legally owned. the questions remain about its storage and how the children got their hands on it. the u.s. postal service appears to be changing its message to the people of winchester. earlier in the week, we had the story about the stern letter that had been sent to homeowners saying that mail homes with improper front railings. just today a few days later, a homeowner sent us a copy of a new letter. they want to work with each resident individually to determine the most efficient way to facilitate mail delivery. a mother left panicked and horrified when her son was not on the plane he was supposed to

a massive explosion on the launchpad at cape canaveral when the test firing of the wrong. that rocket is supposed to carry a $195 million satellite into space for facebook to use. the blast could be felt for miles away. the good news here is that no one was hurt. it's unclear how today's explosion will affect the upcoming flight schedule. a mother says she thought her 5-year-old son had been kidnapped. he was put on a plane to meet her in new york. >> when the plane arrived, he wasn't on it. that's because jetblue had put

wrong flight. tonight, that mother wants answers. ken macleod has her story all now at 6:00. >> andy? >> that's 5-year-old andy wearing the hat and waving as relatives watched him walk through security. they paid the extra hundred bucks for a jetblue worker to escort the boy to his flight in new york city where his mom was waiting. >> when i went to pick up my son, my son wasn't there. they >> reporter: indeed, the 5- year-old boy who arrived in kennedy had andy's passport and luggage but wasn't andy. there was confusion and hysteria. >> for three hours, she doesn't know where he is. >> reporter: turns out, there were two 5-year-old boys boarding flight as lone that morning in the -- flights alone that moring in dominican. one here at logan and one in new york.

this weekend. >> eric, you said you don't like what you are seeing from this hermine? >> no. the last couple of hours it certainly is strengthening. with the next upgrade before we get toward landfall, the winds are going to be stronger and certainly has been strengthening over the last 12 hours. looking at the overall setup, most of the focus is on hermine and where it's going to head, making landfall before 10:00 tonight in florida and right along the eastern seaboard as we head into the ar weekend. here is the satellite picture. i don't like what i see. it's been long to develop here. the last couple of frames, can you see the new thunderstorms wrapping around the center and the eye is starting to form. i think the winds could ramp up before landfall near apalachicola in florida tonight. certainly going to be a difficult situation with flooding rains and large storm surge when it comes to shore. as it moves northeast, the biggest issues could be flooding rain from georgia up

and then it's going to stop. it's going to be sitting there and drifting for several days. we could be talking about saturday, sunday, monday, tuesday, and wednesday looking into next week. over time it drifts there. as it reaches up to the position, east of atlantic city that is a position we could be looking at severe beach erosion and minor beach erosion in southern new england. the reason it stops, it over the top of it, we call it a banana ridge that acts like a blanket on top of the storm. it's nowhere for it to go. it will drift and stay there for days on end. looking at the time line as you make plans for the holiday weekend, tomorrow, a beautiful day, sunshine,0s, classic -- sunshine, 70s, classic september weather. we're going to stay dry. so now we're off to the start of the weekend and outdoor plans. no problem. as we head into sunday, the

moving up into new england on sunday. the highest chance of rainfall there is going to be across cape cod, the so you can coast, the islands, and essentially all areas south and east of boston. i think once you get north of the city, we'll be dry until much later on sunday if not sunday night. looking at the weekend, saturday and increasing clouds but a nice day. especially up north onto vermont, new hampshire, maine. sunday showers develop and gets gusty at the coastline, especially toward the evening. on labor day itself, monday, this is wher highest chance of heavier downpours. it's also where we see our strongest winds heading into labor day holiday. the guarantee is high surf, rip currents and even pockets of minor coastal flooding. fortunately astronomical tides are not high right now. that is a good thing. in terms of rain chances, the highest amounts are south and east of boston. we could see over 2 inches of rain between sunday, monday, and tuesday.

inch so not exactly drought busting there. we'll start easterly and they move northeasterly as we head sunday evening into monday. now, if it comes up farther north, i want to put it out there so you have it in your head, the worst case scenario. we get more erosion and a little more coastal flooding. at this time, i don't think that's likely, but it's something to watch for. one thing we do want, it's not the nd the latest drought advisory came out this morning, an expansion of extreme drought down to taunton. if it's close by, we'll keep showers and cool air on sunday. david and paula, still uncertainty way out in the
