has been that. 61 in boston. wind blowing at 12 miles an houe temperatures isn't going to go up a great deal along the coast today because the winds are going to be coming from the ocean. it will be ramping up this afternoon getting stronger. so it's going to be a little coolish. these are the temperatures right now. there have been some spots which got down to the upper 40s this morning nation we're seeing temperatures which are going to be getting close to 90 here, and that surge of heat and humidity is going to be coming back to new england later this week. meantime high pressure is in control to the north. sort of a blocking mechanism going on and even though the storm is moving the remains of hermine is getting trapped and not going to be able to go much for a while. by late this morning a few little

morning. it's lovely out there, crisp, it's refreshing. >> so let's take a look what happened in labor day last year. do you remember that? >> i do. >> it was 93 degrees and how about the comparison to what it's going to be tomorrow. it's a contrast. we had 3 days in a row so we had a heat wave going on 93 on labor day the was 96, the day after that was 93 again. tomorrow it will be about 69 average. some places farther farther northwest of boston is probably going to be around 73 or so while around boston and points south it may be around 66 to 68. it's going to be turning cloudy and wet as well. so a different kind of labor day this time around. we're looking at a cool morning. it's been crisp with the temperatures starting rise a bit.
7:46 am
still a few 40s in scattered locations and the valley areas and low lands. starting rise a little bit above 50 in the usual cold spots, but it's been mild over cape cod. a little bit of a drift coming into from the ocean. along the coast near 70 today up to the middle 70s inland for high temperatures but the rest of the nation is cooking out in h lot of lower 90s and this area is tests tinned for boston. triple h stuff on the way. high pressure is around to the north of us and protecting us from getting this direct hit from this storm. instead it running into this block in the atmosphere is like a traffic jam. it going to start whirling around and rotating and you know, milling around and looping and so on.
7:47 am
here's today at 1:00. it starts coming in from the southeast. you can see it down here. so the action is going to be moving toward the northwest as the bands start to come in. now, as they start to come in they'll start tomorrow morning. watch the time stamp again. it starts coming our way but drys up as it moves farther north and west the here's the center spinning around toward the sth england. tomorrow morning we've got the rain moving in while there's partly sunny in western and northern new england. this comes so far and runs into a block and just can't go anywhere. so much dry air up here. so it spins around and spins around and it's going to keep looping for a while before it starts to take off. we've got all that rain off shore
7:48 am
tropical downpours here around an inch and more in some spots. tomorrow they'll be running around 35 to 45 and gusts in this zone. 45 to as high as 55 in a few areas here. so we've got the periods of rain and the seas definitely will be building. minor coastal flooding. some of the wave heights are running around 15 feet. so big waves just off shore starting build south o action right now but that will change in the next 24 to 48 hours. the rain will come to an end tuesday morning and the sun comes out northwest of boston, 81 on tuesday. look at that, 3 or 4 days of really hot weather. in fact some areas will be a heat wave at the end of the week. >> i was going to say. >> not so great for kids and teachers going to school. >> i know. well, thank you. a strong earthquake in the

good morning. this morning we are tracking tropical storm hermine, the storm causing trees to crash into homes in charleston south carolina. carolina are flooded and from florida to virginia hundreds of thousands of people have no power, and now the storm is moving up the east coast and parts of new england are already under tropical storm warnings. good morning. i'm kerry connolly along with barry burbank who's saying it's pretty quiet for us here this morning. >> beautiful morning. it's lovely out there. hardly a cloud around. you'd hardly know anything is going to happen.

8:02 am
the clouds will be noticeable this afternoon. it goes to 70 at the coast and statisticals it may drop back a tad. then we get the strongest winds later tonight and tomorrow of 20 to as high of 50 the highest down toward the cape. so we'll have seas building not much out there right now but they will be building. we'll have periods of rain affecting eastern massachusetts and will last into tuesday ande hermine and hot weather on the way too. see you in a few minutes. well, while massachusetts won't see a direct hit from tropical storm hermine people on the cape and south coast are still getting ready. boat owners are certainly not taking any chances. last night many pulled their boat out of the water including this man brian butler. >> everybody else is taking their boats out. i don't think

northeast and going to be fresh beening as the day goes along. lots of sunshine out there. just a few clouds starting to show up later this afternoon and will probably turn partly cloudy. you see boston's temperature doesn't change too much today because of that wind coming onshore. we had low temperatures this morning down to 48 worcester 56. all right plymouth at 65 degrees this morning. and we're looking at temperatures across the nation hot stuff down in here and that's going to be on a beline for boston later this week. in the meantime still dealing with hermine. it's down the coast here and being sort of blocked from coming northward because of this big ridge of high pressure planking us. so eventually that

some loops. watch the time stamp as we go through the day. some little patches of clouds will start showing up. this afternoon we should go to the mid-70s but about 68 to 71 right at the beaches at that northeast wind starts freshening. the clouds will become more noticeable late this afternoon southeastern massachusetts they'll head northwest ward with time to be followed by the bands ofn first thing tomorrow morning and move westward probably up to boston by later in the morning and trying to move into the western suburbs tomorrow afternoon. and beyond that as they try to inch northwest ward they'll start drying up. the showers may move as far as southern new hampshire and maine. so we'll see temperatures mostly in the 60s at night and mostly during the
8:17 am
assuming this starts moving out. a lot of heavy rain off shore with this system and we're just going to get sort of glazed by it a glancing blow with the rain happening here and the wind pattern is what we've been predicting for 2, 3 days, gusts tomorrow 35 to 45 and 45 to 55 in the cape. 15 to 35 off to the north and west. that's the way it's shaping up. seas building, periods of rain. so it's going to look mean around here in some areas of n and we have high seas down here now as that storm has been producing those over the last 24 hours. we get closer to the south coast it's up to 10 feet. along the east coast it's mostly around 1 or 2 feet. so it's a post tropical cyclone now has winds of 65 and we have a tropical storm watch up here and we'll be watching it closely throughout the day in fact tropical storm warning goes

sunshine. it's not going to be a hot day but temperatures are going up from earlier. we'll go up to about 71 on the coast today to 76 farther away from the ocean. the wind will freshen you'll notice it this afternoon when it goes as high as 35 miles an hour down towards the cape and clouds will show up near the cape. then rain tomorrow and gusty winds strongest down towards the cape. here's the system out here. it's going to start to act together once again and probably start intensifying. it still moving but it's got to slow down eventually and start to turn around and do a loop and start to effect us. it's about 310 miles to the south here. max winds still around 65, not classified as a pure tropical storm it's sort of a post tropical situation. so there it

building seas but enjoy today because it going to be a pretty nice one. more about some hot weather coming as well. i'll have all the details in a few minutes. tropical storm hermine is gaining strength in the atlantic as it spins off the east coast. parts of new england should start feeling the effects this morning and tomorrow will be a wet one. it has already caused hundreds of thousands of power outages. boston police arrest add a driver i deadly hit and run. a woman was killed last night while walking. and some local ambulance workers woke up to a fiery discovery, a new smart phone exploded. samsung just recalled 2 and a half million galaxy note 7 phones because the batteries can catch fire while charging. a bridge will come down a little bit earlier than expected. crews pertinently closed it to traffic when it got

the president, sounds calm, measured, rational, talks about mutually achievable goals, he's got 5 points he reads out, references the hemisphere, he looks presidential. hours later he's on -- wednesday night, excuse me -- same night he's on stage in phoenix brings out red are meat on immigration appeared the mexican president is claiming trump lied in their they discussed the financing of this famous wall. let start with you. how on earth is this supposed to reassure voters about trump's stability and reliability? >> first i take a little issue with the idea that he looked presidential. our standards have lowered clearly for donald trump standing for an hour and not ranting and being generally a respectful person makes you a human being over the age of 4,
8:36 am
so feel like you know, there's this media drive to boost up -- you know, to think every turn he's acting presidential. i think the speech that he gave on wednesday night confirmed who donald trump is. and who he's going after. he is a guy who goes for red meat. he's full of trigger language. >> okay, but what i don't get, maybe you can strategy here charlie. clearly the campaign has been trying to lower negatives, and broaden his appeal. certainly by using language about them, by looking -- all right allegedly presidential in mexico to other voters who have been alleged by his tone. how did he advanced ball in those regards? >> i thought going to mexico jumping on that invitation my
8:37 am
president of mexico. the clinton people never even got back. trump jumps on his plane flies down there has a major meeting and i disagree, i thought he was terrific in the press conference. in fact, one of the questions he was asked is did paying for the wall came up, he said it came up but we really didn't discuss it. 5 feet away is the president of mexico. he could have said sure we did and i told him we're not paying tweet 2 hours after -- >> okay. right but what about the act with the -- going back to the red meat later that night. what is the casual undecided voter supposed to make of that? >> i think the place they did the -- did the speech probably wasn't conducive to a ten point major policy speech on what he would do if he's elected president on illegal immigration. you have the crowd
8:38 am
he's talking. i probably would have with put him in a different venue but i've reread the speech. >> if you're a moderate republican, a latino voter if you understand to win the party needs to win over voters you don't listen to that speech and hear anything about the same, you know, border line racist language they're coming over the border to get us, they're all criminals, you know he didn't say the words they're murderers that trigger language was embedded. >> he introduced the families of victims of illegal immigrants including the family who we know the terrible story that was murdered, drunk driving here and i thought that added a really nice point to the whole event to have the families there and be able to tell their stories. >> they're terrible stories but statistics show as immigration
8:39 am
everywhere because of good policing now we don't know. we see crime going up all over the country because you have the democrats and everyone attacking our police. >> if we're going to talk about hillary clinton we'll have to take our break now. maybe a word about the third party candidates.

we're in a civil if argumentative american this morning. okay. so the sa with ga of hillary cln 's emails and her family's handling of the clinton foundation continues drip drip drip, the latest we learned that secretary clinton was sending email which was later deemed classified from her private email server months after leaving office. and then we also learned clinton was using funds that are set aside to support former presidents in their work diverting it to the clinton foundation not illegally but in a manner that we haven't seen before. so again, let me start with you. it feels like she can't get out of her own way on this stuff. and as a result well, the campaign is kind of hiding her out. >> yeah, the self inflicted wounds is astounding.
8:43 am
eventually going to run are for president. so the idea that she didn't put systems in place to distance herself that this wouldn't come up, all these kind of side deals and the friendships that look shady. >> there have been stories about it for years. >> it goes on and on. >> right. >> because donald trump diverts all the attention from all of this. >> be up by 10 points? >> i think trump is going to beat her any way. you saw her numbers crashing this week. she came out of her convention up there, you know, some trust numbers even women voters adopt like her and adopt trust her any more. so these trust numbers are really important. now, the clinton people go around saying look, we elected bill twice when everybody knew he was a liar and cheater so that doesn't matter. we can fool the american people
8:44 am
hillary even though nobody trusts here. >> it's a challenge. that was personal life stuff and this is professional. so it hurts her. it damaging for sure. >> i thint we all agree. i props today quick mention thin candidates as viewers know we had jill stein for an interview next week former governor bill wells will join us right now it'sk my colleagues. >> all right. thank you so much. barry is here to tell us a little bit about this forecast. and today seems to be the day. >> loving the day so much. bright appeared sunny all over n down in cape cod. there are patches of clouds whig to show up right now. we'll see some clouds around but the storm producing clouds are way off. we're continuing to monitor this here as the extreme portion of the drought extended a little bit farther south this week according to the new monitor that we got.
8:45 am
everything -- i've never seen things so dry around here. but hopefully we'll get some rain in this corridor right here is probably where we're going to get the best chance of getting showers out of this upcoming system assuming it's going to back in on us. well, it's that time of year again of course with the ragweed but mostly ragweed that most people are allergic to, tomorrow it looks like with the rain falling it's going to cleanse the atmosphere somewhat in eastern massachusetts so the levels will be down but then they'll start bringing back up later this week especially when we go back close to over 90 degrees. yes, i said 90. it was anything but hot this morning, if felt like fall. this afternoon about 70 at the coast falling back into the upper 60s when that wind starts freshening to 15 to 25 miles an hour. some higher gusts down towards the cape. we'll have patches of clouds building here and there but a lot of sunshine
8:46 am
clouds will build inland as well. here's the heat building across the nation today. this stuff coming in the second half of the week once we get rid of hermine which is out there right now as a post tropical cyclone. but watch with time we have some patches of clouds around today. here's the system off shore with its spiral bands of rain and system is going to intensify so it should start pushing bands of rain back northwest ward toward the cape first obviously coming in tomorrow morning and heading towards boston deeper in the morning. the bands dry up somewhat. so southeastern massachusetts has the best rain, eventually the bands will be able to push as far as southern new hampshire. the northern
8:47 am
it's beautiful in cape cod. it won't be that way tomorrow. you can see this thing spinning around in here and it will be mid-week before it gets out of here. so certainly producing a lot of heavy rain closer to the storm center and we get the glancing blow of these bands of rain and also bands of heavier wind coming in. and latest models show that they've upped the amounts a little bit, so hopefully we get some of this. i think it's a little the winds should materialize at 35 to 45 miles an hour. and the strongest winds late tonight and through much of tomorrow and the winds will slowly unwind here on tuesday as the system moves up toward us loops around and moves back to the northeast and then moves on out of here at mid-week. it's producing all these big waves 15 to 20-foot waves off shore from the
8:48 am
much a problem here today, it's like 1 to 3 footers. that's okay. but seas will be building with time and we've got the rain ending -- showers on tuesday. if the sun comes out tuesday it 81, but talk about building we have building heat the second half of the week. hot for the teachers and students go to school i'll tell you, 91, 95 and even into the next weekend it could be hot first part the weekend. look at that. >> hot classrooms. thank you. welcoming up nexg tribute to an american hero on his birthday, the surprise that
