. now at 11:00, rough surf, damaging winds, widespread power outages. the new warning for boston police after a firing molotov cocktail was found burning on an officer's front lawn. police chasing a burglar jumping rooftop to rooftop in the north end where they finally found hermine moves in. battering the cape with gusty winds and massive waves. beaches closed, ferries canceled, now here comes the rain. a tropical storm warning is in effect for much of new england as hermine comes closer to shore. we want to start with our chief meteorologist eric fisher

over night. it is peaking in intensity over night, slowly very slowly to the storm will wind itself down into wednesday, thursday, knocking much of this week of course today labor day holiday a lot of people are leaving the cape early as the weather, they didn't miss much in terms of a beach day, let's take a look at the warning situations, been a and the islands here, wind speeds are sustained at 65, that's offshore just off to our south around the center of the storm drifting westward today, with that movement bringing some rainbands further in brought some of the stronger winds inland, most of that impact being felt in the south eastern corner where we have some gusts coming down after peaks gusting around 60 on nantucket and martha's

heights. 10 to 20-footers. 5-footers around the outer pay we'll have more exposed water on the ocean and exposed beaches. the biggest issue will be for erosion and rough surf. in terms of beach erosion, hoping that these around going to get too chewed up. also hoping to squeeze out more rainfall even though today was a holiday, we pamela gardner is tracking the rain totals so far. what we can expect as we head back to work and school tomorrow. it's been a little disappointing for our friends to the north and west, we haven't seen any rainfall from today. it was a great labor day holiday further to the south and east where we were thinking the heaviest rain was going to be that's where we picked up a quarter of an inch of rain to three quarters of an inch,

on nantucket, we had a spotter say they saw an inch and a half, current doppler radar showing there are showers pushing to the north and west, a couple heavier bands are producing showers from medford, again it is going to be wave after wave of some late showers most of the heaviest rain is to our south projected rainfall over the next 24, 48 hours going into at least tuesday night maybe another half an inch gusts up to 35 miles per hour projected. coming up we're tracking when all of this comes down when we could have warmer temps in your seven day. thank you, hermine whipping up the surf, chopping seas, take a look at this video, this is from nantucket where the boats are really getting tossed around under these huge waves. the boats that carry people to and from nantucket the

anonymously. live in boston, wbz news. developing, boston police on alert after an officer found a molotov cocktail burning in his front yard. police are investigating if that officer was targeted. fortunately, no major damage to the home they can see the lawn scorched in some spot. police are urging officers to be on alert. the windy weather made fighting the blaze very difficult again a firefighter taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. tonight the drive accused of hitting a jogger and speeding away is behind bars thanks to witnesses who chased her down. they took off after the suspect on route 44. caught up with her and refused to let her leave.

jogging home from the gym and quickly rushed to the hospital. >> ran to the window, that's when i saw the victim laying on the sidewalk. police arrested the drivermary elliot, facing a number of charges tonight at last check, the victim in this case was in intensive care. police say this drive was lucky the 17-year-old walked away without injury, it is the teenager was on the phone at the time. in berlin massachusetts the search is on for this armed bankrobber police say he hit a bank and may have led police on a chase with what was said his motorcycle. he is armed and dangerous. campaign 2016 both candidates making news tonight from their planes while sitting on the same tarmac at the same airport in ohio.

what happened to this north end couple. >> the roof over there, then walked around and tried to get in the window where the bike is. ken was home with he were husband when police say damion tried to break into their apartment by scaling walls, saying her husband asked the man to leave. >> turned around and started yelling about his life was in danger, some trying to open the window and we have two windows, so he opened the first one then i guess he started pushing on the other one. he left them alone butattempted to break into other apartments by jumping rooftop to rooftop. >> i think that's absolutely crazy. yelling some stuff thought he was in the bronx, i guess. police arrived jumping from

storm conditions across the islands in particular maybe a few spots on cape cod. winds tonight still gusting 30 in boston, 36 in plymouth, quieted downright here where we are some stronger winds moving off towards long island, coastal connecticuit, up to 50 miles per hour. so you might see a couple spots, localized flash flooding, damaging wind only leaving it at a two, winds gusting over 30 have been knocking down trees. coastal fl fortunate we don't have high tides they are quite low. they will be a couple feet higher later this month. we lucked out on the timing. and they are with us the rest of the week, we heard ferry disruption will continue and may continue into wednesday. clouds and showers, if you were the north and west you go the brighter the skies the lower the chance of any rainfall,

boston area south and east, that's also where the winds will be stronger and in particular, right at the coastline if you're inland that wind will not be a big factor, really at the waters edge. you look at the track over the course of tuesday and wednesday a lot of clouds around that on shore wind a few showers on an off a lot will not be on the heavy side we'll not see very significant rain. it leaves on thursday another cold front approaches, ahead of it the heat is ba we're talking midsummer heat a chance of 90 degrees at the jet stream will be north, that will be on friday and saturday as we kickoff the weekend. hopefully the erosion will not end up being too bad here on the cape and the islands and the south coast that wave action stay high all week long. there is your accuweather 7 day starting to get back into the more consistent sun on thursday, friday we're looking
