the impact it's having on ferry service and closer look at today's forecast. >> and a warning in boston. a popular spot one woman says she was sexually assaulted. >> a molotov cocktail thrown into a boston police officer's yard. the warning this morning for other officers and a closer look at the investigation underway. >> it is tuesday, september 6th. the holiday weekend is over. hermine is moving out of here. but let's get a check of the forecast as we all get back to work and school today. welcome back. >> hey, thanks. back to reality, right? yes, hermine still a tropical -- post-tropical storm spinning to our south. it's a pretty nasty storm in terms of winds. but that's out over the ocean. so our wind threat has been diminishing.

pushing off the ocean. winds gusts 20 to 30 miles per hour. not the tropical storm force gusts like we had yesterday out over the cape and islands that caused some of that damage. 28 miles per hour boston. so yes a windy day not a ton of rain. a couple of green little blips on the radar here. you may need the wipers on. temperatures are running in the 60s for most of us right now. so some light pockets of rain shifting in -- shifting in you have at ocean today. there will be clouds around. the winds may gust occasionally to 35 miles per hour. i thinkt threat is done. planner goes this way, then, kids will want the raincoat or umbrella on standby. chance of a shower, peeks of sunshine. we'll be up around 70 by midday and top out to middle to upper 70s. i'll let you know when we could push 90 again coming up in a few. breaking overnight a driver cashed into the contact -- crashed into back of a state police cruiser. it happened on 93 south near exit 18. a woman was seen getting a

no word, though, if the trooper was injured. coming up on 5:steer two right now. hermine still churning up rough surf and strong winds are canceling ferries. >> anna meiler is live with a closer look. anna. >> reporter: and kate, there are a few gusts more than 20 miles per hour here in hall this morning. even though the wind will not be a big concern today, the rough seas will be sticking around through mid-week, beach erosion and more ferry cancellations. rough seas stirred up by hermine caused cancellation along a number of ferry lins, leaving people stranded and frustrated. unable to get home from their labor day weekend destinations. >> i'm very highly ticked off right now. this happens a lot too and the wind with the weather. i understand it's not their fault. >> we kind of saw it coming so we called some hotels in the area on our trip down from boston and, you know, figured it would be what it would be.

were lucky to make it to the steam ship authority dock, we leaved to to have made it safe. >> theres have been a lot of cancellation. a lot of people in line trying to get out here. >> she is holding on to me like a monkey. >> reporter: the effects were felt far and wide. wind also whipped threw taunton bringing this tree crashing down. >> i just happened to be walking in the garage, i heard a loud, loud bang, and then i turned trooe was on top of my truck. >> reporter: the wild weather a more welcome site on cape cod. >> it's pretty rough, yeah. it looks leak a painting. it looks surreal. beautiful. >> reporter: the island queen has already canceled ferry for today. the steam ship authority is also anticipating more cancellations.

i can tell you it was around this time yesterday this investigation began, and it's caught many who frequent this area off-guard. near the area of state street and atlantic avenue is where it happened. an attack, police say, where a woman was sexually assaulted. >> that is a light freightening -- frightening. >> reporter: just after 4:00 a.m. police told her it was her walk through the greenway toward the carousel that a man in his 40s her, white or hispanic, 5'5" with scruff on his face, she describes him and many do, the area is known for being safe. >> i do feel comfortable walking by myself at night. it depends on the distance of travel. >> reporter: it's all well-lit here. that's how the alleged victim was able to see her attacker he's brew ins jersey and baseball hat. it has women rethinking their steps. >> seeing it's been a sexual assault makes they think i need

boston. >> reporter: of course, police are urge issing -- urging vigilance in this situation. anyone with information is asked to contact police. we're live in boston, nicole jacobs, wbz this morning. molotov cocktail found burning in a police officer's front yard. and this morning investigators are trying to figure out if that officer was targeted. this is a photo of the device. there was no major damage to the home but you can see part of the lawn was scorched. it happened early sunday morning. nobody was hurt but boston on alert. commissioner bill evans saying, quote, the safety and well-become of become of my officers is the highest importance to me. as a result this is an incident we're taking seriously and investigating accordingly. the boston police union and the city are headed to court today over body cameras. a hearing is scheduled in suffolk superior court with the union asking for an injunction

it was supposed to begin september 1st with 100 officers assigned to wear the cameras. a deal reached in july called for the officers to volunteer. the union's lawyer wants to postpone the program until they can renegotiate. a campus police officer set to face charges in court today. he is on leave from framingham state university. he's facing numerous charges including open gross lewdness and witness intimidation. more information. he is banned from campus during the investigation. a dorchester man is expected before a judge today to face charges in a deadly hit-and-run in mattapan. police say 39-year-old anthony buchanan turned himself in around 1:00 a.m. sunday morning. they say he was speeding and driving drunk when he hit and killed a woman in a crosswalk on saturday night. winds from hermine helping to fuel a fire at this ocean-front home in rhode island last night.

of rain with hermine either. 65-mile-per-hour winds though out over the ocean as hermine spins south of long island. moving to the west, so backing up still at eight miles per hour. hermine is going to slowly meander to our south and eventually, whether or not, cross the island in a weakened form. so the wind currently gusting between 20 and 30 mirnz. not those gusts 40, 50, and 60 like we had yesterday. so i'm not concern #d overrule with anytr during the day today. maybe a few gusts up to 35 or 40 miles per hour. temperatures right now 59 in wooster, 63 in boston, many of us are running in the 60s and just want to show you the live doppler. a little bit of light rain. get a couple showers need the wipers on. back up to norwood, mansfield, city of boston a little bit of light pockets of rain over us as well. westboro, north side of

up to north redding. you'll need the wipers on vee beefly along 93. look at the moisture, kind of pivoting in off the ocean. light for the most part of the we'll not see a ton of rain today. most end up with less than .10 of an inch. so there is is hermine spinning back to the west, not a whole lot of action. our next disturbance doesn't come in until thursday late in the day. that's really going to kick hermine out of here. so it's a cpl meandering to our south and the same goes for the interior too. cloudy skies, maybe a shower or two. the main impact felt at our coastline. even that really diminishing over today and tomorrow. notice not a ton of green showing up on the map. scattered showers, lone downpour through the evening hours and there may be a few that inning whetherer into overnight tonight as well. high temperatures 70 to 75 for most of us today. there will be a few upper 70s that sneak on the map. then overnight tonight, there

injuring from roof to roof attempting to break into apartments on north margin street. kennan lagreze was at home with her husband. he tried breaking in by stomping on their skylight. >> we've had drunk people on the roof before so i didn't -- really think anything of it until he started pushing on the window. and then i guess someone must have yelled at him, distracted him and he started talking to them and stomping on the window again. >> eventually he was found inside a nearby apartment. he faces two counts of breaking and entering. a bizarre break in in the vineyard. felix reagan broke into a home on saturday afternoon. stole several tementz and then actually painted the family's dog purple. police say he then stole a car and crashed it. when officers found him, they say he had purple paint on his hands. today a rhode island judge

a partial settle over kurt schilling's failed 38 studios. they have agreed to pay $35.6 million to settle the lawsuits with the state. the video game company failed less than two years after receiving a $75 million state loan guarantee. if approved, it would bring the total amount the state has recovered to $42 million. a lawsuit against schilling is still spending. the lobster population in our waters is in trouble. officials are meeting next month in maine to discuss this fix the problem. the atlantic states marine fisheries commission is considering several options, like adding seasonal closures. scientists say lobsters here in southern new england are in decline, but the species seems to be thriving farther up the coast in maine. taking on the t in a new and very funny way. two long-time boston commuters have created what they call the mbta excuse generator.

building's roof, pepper sprayed two officers, and used a rope to swing into a third-floor apartment. he's also accused of punching that tenant in the face. a massachusetts man accused of threatening to asincere nate president obama and attack a mosque is due in federal court tomorrow. joseph gar julio of holliston was arrested last week. he's also accused of stockpiling weapons and planning to kill police officers. a friend told authorities he afraid he was about to snap. his lawyer says his client denies making any threats. the driver accused of hitting a jogger and speeding away is behind bars this morning. and police say witnesses helped to chase her down. seekonk police say two people jumped in separate cars and took off after the suspect on route 44. they caught up with her and refused to let her leave until police arrived. the victim was jogging when he was hit on sunday and is in intensive care at rhode island

when i saw oount victim laying on the sidewalk. >> police arrested the driver just over the border in rhode island. she is facing a number of charges. and another warning about distracted driving after this crash in hingham. police say the 17-year-old driver was on the phone at the time and not wearing a seat belt. they say he was lucky that he wasn't hurt. he has been cited, police say the penalty includes a mandatory suspension o man who was accidentally shot during a s.w.a.t. drug raid has settled their wrongful death lawsuit. 68-year-old you'rie stamps with a the shot while laying on the floor with his hands up as officers worked to secure the scene. before entering the home, the stepson was arrested on drug charges. the officer involved was never charged. the settlement comes just two months before the lawsuit was set to go to trial. the terms of the settlement have

cosby felony sex assault trial and it could bring key evidence to light. lawyers for the comedian are fighting to keep out nearly one had you pages of damaging testimony he gave in his accuser's lawsuit. cosby is charged with drugging and molesting a woman he mentored at temple university back in 2004. former saturday night live chefe chase is headed to rehab. a spokesperson says the 72 year old is being treated for an alcohol-relatesu it's not the first time the actor has been treated for addiction issues. he checked into the betty ford center for a painkiller addiction back in 1986. 200 students at westfield state university are getting ready to give back today. they have signed up for a series of community service projects as part of helping out our town day. this is the seventh year that students have volunteered to help out local businesses by painting gardening and cleaning. well still ahead this

tropical storm force. so here is posttropical hermine. an area of low pressure essentially still -- wait a minute, what about this. 65 miles per hour out of ocean. it's moving to the west. so it's backing up still a little bit and it's going to kind of meander to our south over the next constitutional of days before crossing the cape and islands. if you can believe it or not. seas have been building on the southern coastal waters. notice just north little bit sheltered there but it's our costal waters just to our east still talking about 5 to 10-foot seas, the seas are churned up, but the wind has died down. current gusts between 20, 30 miles per hour, so not damaging any more. that wind will subside gradually through the day today. we will see gusts close to 30 miles per hour. 60 in wooster right now.

a cool start and few showers too. steady but light rain to brockton. north and weft malden up 93 back over towards watertown and arlington, framingham, a little light rain for us. you notice kind of the motion of all of this to the north and west. these little bands of light rain will be with us, kind of rs spotty through the day today. there's that counterclockwise spin. it will slowly and dwrad wally impact us. we'll get a break in the action back to the west. hermine needs a kick out of here. and it will get that from a cold front coming in on thursday. so hour by hour today, scattered showers, have the umbrella on standby. generally light for the most part. most of us end up with less than .10 offenen inch. there may be a few spots a little higher than that.

his face. the area here is known to tourists and generally safe and well-lit. so news of the attack is unsettling. certainly anyone with information is urged to contact police. we're live in boston, nicole jacobs, wbz this morning. a molotov cocktail found burning in a boston police officer's front yard. this morning investigators are trying to figure out if that officer was targeted. there was no major damage to the home but you can see part lawn was scorched. it happened early sunday morning, nobody was hurt. but boston police are urging officers to be on alert. a fire in halifax is recovering after this fire on thompson street. crews tell us the windy weather made it difficult to put the flames out. one firefighter was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. nobody was inside the home at the time. the cause of the blaze still under investigation. former poison singer brett michaels is hoping this

somebody stole the phone and other electronics from his dressing room when he was performing at the hampton beach casino ballroom last week. the staff put the photo on facebook showing the two suspects. the staff gave the thieves 24 hours to return the electronics with no questions asked, but the electronics are still missing. ups is getting ready to charge more more shipping. the company plans to increase rates by about five%. but not until after the holidays. the change effect until december 26th. this morning on the health watch, researchers say oral contraceptive use has lead to a drop in owe vare -- ovarian cancer deaths. it has played a role in the reduction. ovarian cancer death rates fell in the u.s. 16% between 2002 and 2012. president obama is now weighing in on collin kaepernick's protest during the

viral video eating lunch with sixth grader bo paske. he invited bo and his family to last night's football game. paske has autism and during a visit to his school, rudolph saw him eating lunch all alone and he decided to sit with him. paske was presented with his own jersey and got attend the game where he saw rudolph score a touchdown in the team's win. former celtics coach is returning to boston today to help raise money for kids in fund-raiser at the garden tonight. it's an event that rivers helped establish after the celtics won the nba championship back in -- back in 2008. proceeds will benefit the work smart initiative which helps low-income kids stay in school. well still to come this morning, a horse that heels. >> we'll introduce you to the special animal working with a local hospital to lift patient's
