wind will mean at least the churned up seas will be the primary threat but no longer damaging wind gusts. still kind of meandering south of long island. still has 65-mile-per-hour winds near the city of the storm. so stronger out over the ocean and that is what's built the seas. it's moving to the west at eight miles per hour right now. so rough seas erosion rip currents still the highest risk. it's now low for damaging wind al so we've seen the worst of hermine. 63 in boston right now. most of us in the 60s. still a little bit of light rain out there with some showers that have pivoted north and west. so outside of boston, nice little curve here, right? so inside of 128, a little bit of light rain, back through north redding, 495 back down towards westboro, milford a little bit of light rain.

injured. hermine still churning up rough surface and strong winds canceling ferry service and causing damage back on the shore. >> wbz anna meiler is live in hull this morning. she joins us now with the latest and still ail little -- still a little tough along the shoreline there. >> reporter: and ken, there are a few gusts between 20 and 30 miles per hour here in hull this morning. and even though the wind will not be a big concern today, the rough seas will stick around through mid week, beach erosion and more ferry cancellations. rough seas stirred up by hermine caused cancellation across a number of ferry lines. leaving people stranded and frustrated. unable to get home from their labor day weekend destination. >> i'm very highly very ticked off right now. this happens a lot too and the wind with the weather, i understand it's not their fault. >> we kind of saw it coming, you know, so we called some hotels in the area on our trip down from boston and, you know,

were lucky to make it to the steam ship authority dock, relieved to half made it safe. >> have there have been a lot of cancellation, there were a lot of people inline. >> she is holding on to me lick a monkey so she is miserable. >> reporter: the effects were felt far and wide. wind whipped through taunton bringing this tree crashing down. >> i happened to be walking in the garage, i heard a loud, loud bang and then i on top of my truck. reporter: the wild weather a more welcome site on cape cod where people flocked to the beach to watch the waves crash enter it's rough. it looks like a painting. beautiful. >> reporter: the island queen has already canceled ferry service for today. the steam ship authority is anticipating cancellations. the ferry from boston to p town

you go. anna meiler, wbz this morning. coast guard tells us they are ready to respond to any emergencies in the rough weather. of this a crew on board this ship anchored off of massachusetts. they say the tahoma is standing by ready to go with resources from air station cape cod. and strong winds from hermine also toppling trees in our area. this is video from taunton. the similar scene in communities all kroong the state where trees have been badly weakene drought. and stay with wbz as we track the impact on new england. get updates any time on the cbs boston weather app, our facebook page, on twitter, and of course our website. unfortunately the wind helped fuel a fire at this ocean-front home in rhode island last night. according to tax records the property belongs to a former own of the pulse ox. firefighters from several communities fought the flames along ocean road.

trants there. no word yesterday on a cause. molotov cocktail found burning enter a police officer's front yard. this morning investigators are trying to figure out if that officer was targeted. this say picture of the device. there was no major damage the home but you can see part of the lawn was scorched. it happened early sunday morning. nobody was hurt but boston police are urging officers to be on alert. commission evans saying, q, officers is always the highest importance to me. this is an incident we are taking seriously. the boston police union and the city whether head -- are headed to court today over body cameras. a hearing is scheduled in suffolk superior court with the city's police union asking a judge for an injunction to temporarily hold off on beginning the new program. the body pilot program was supposed to begin september 1st with 100 officers assigned to

but that didn't happen. the union lawyer wants to postpone the program all together until the two sides can negotiate a new deal. right now police are searching for a man who sexually assaulted a woman on the greenway. wbz' nicole jacobs is live in boston this morning with a closer look at the investigation. nicole. >> reporter: that investigation began to unfold yesterday morning and it's in an area that is typically safe. so it's catching a lot of who frequent this area by surprise. near the area of state street and atlantic avenue is where it happened. an attack, police say, where a woman was sexually assaulted. >> what is a little frightening. >> reporter: just after 4:00 a.m. a woman told police it was during her walk through the greenway towards the carousel that a man in izz 40s or twists -- 50s approached her. white or hispanic, 5'5" with scruff on his face. >> really sad. >> reporter: and many do, the area is known for being safe.

it depends on the distance of travel. >> reporter: it's all well-lit here that's how the alleged victim was able to see her attackers jersey and baseball hat. the crime has women in the area now rethinking their steps. >> seeing it's been a sex assault makes they think i maybe need to rethink how i think of boston. >> reporter: police are urging vigilance throughout the city. anyone with information is asked to contact police. we're live in jacobs, wbz this morning. >> nicole, thanks. a campus police officer set to face charges in court today. will ter dorm aville is on leave. he's facing numerous charges including open and gross lewdness and witness intimidation. police is not released information in the case. he is banned from campus during the investigation. he's also been suspended from his volunteer position as an auxiliary officer for revere

hit-and-run in mattapan. police say 39-year-old anthony buchanan turned himself in at around 1:00 a.m. sunday morning. they say buchanan was speeding and driving drunk when he hit and killed a woman in a crosswalk on saturday mite. the first of several meetings will be held today on the proposed rates for the new all electronic tolling on the mass pike. mass dot will hold its first meeting tonight at union station installed gantries. they will be charging drivers with a transponders, those that don't will take a picture and mailed a bill. campaign 2016, the election is now nine weeks away. today both candidates will campaign in key battleground states. yesterday they both made news from their planes while sitting on the same tarmac at the same airport in ohio. hillary clinton on a brand-new

and tomorrow. there is post tropical hermine. 65-mile-per-hour winds though near the storm center just north and west of the track. so out over the ocean. it's been kind of would bibling to the west very slowly. it's going to move over the cape and islands if you can believe it or not in weakened form by wednesday overnight. waves churned up, 5 to 10-foot seas for a lot of spots or even higher. south and east of nantucket where the waves have been building. the inlets and har pores and bay protected from that wind. the wind isn't all that impressive this morning. there are gusts between 20 and 30 miles per hour. but it's not as widespread, not as strong. because of that the damaging wind threat has subsided. 63 in boston right now. 62 in laurens. many of us are running in the request out the door right now -- running in the 60s out the door right now. you'll want the umbrella.

weymouth, a little bit of light rain. it does extend westward through 128 and 495. so framingham back to wooster, westboro and then back up into ac continue. a little bit of light rain. you'll need the wipers on. and then stretching back up to 114 to a little sprinkle activity there. so you can see the bands kind of pivoting in off the ocean. that's going to be the story the next couple of days. the spotty bands that may bring an occasional downpour. oh there's a -- otherwe the west. we need something to kick hermine out of here. what's going to do that? the next cold front coming into the midwest. that will eventually push in here and hermine is going to get captured by the jet stream and eventually move out over the ocean north and east of us. so what can we expect today? scattered shower activity pockets of light rain. a lot of clouds around. i think we get peeks late in the day. a few breaks in the cloud cover. a few occasional down pows and

from roof to roof. kennan lagreze was at home with her husband. she says he tried breaking in by stomping on their skylight. >> we've had drunk people on the roof before so i didn't really think anything of it until he starred pushingen ot window. -- pushing on the window. i guess someone must have yelled at him, distracted him and he started talking to them and stomping on the skylight. >> eventually he was found inside a nearby apartments. he faces two cou news. a by star -- break ago and entering. it happened in oak bluffs on martha's vineyard. police say this man broke into a home on saturday afternoon, stole several items and then painted the family's dog purple. we're not kidding here. investigators say felix reagan then stole a car and crashed it. when they found him, he still had purple paint on his hands. police say they have also tied reagan to self-other burglaries on the island. today a judge will consider

settle over kurt schillings failed 38 studios. wells fargo and barclays have agreed to pay $25.6 million to settle the lawsuit. the video fame company failed less than two years after receiving a $75 million state loan guarantee. if approved it would bring the total amount the state has recovered to $42 million. a lawsuit against schilling is still pending. still ahead, trouble overnight for airline passengers. the carrier dealing with some major delays. >> also day care danger. the huge stash police say they found outside a center. >> a college football player scoring another victory off the field. very cool move that's made 16th

. right now british airways is trying to fix a computer glitch. it has shut down the airlines check-in system around the world. passengers are dealing with long lines and delays. it's unclear how many flights have been affected. well, a surprising find behind a day care. west haven police say they pulled out roughly 600 marijuana plants from behind a fence t all started friday when inspectors were at the day care when the owner wouldn't let them look behind the fence. she suspended license and concerned something suspicious was going on, they called police. officers say the plants were between 6 and 10 feet tall with a street value of more than a million dollars. police now investigating after a popular sandstone rock formation on an oregon beach was knocked over. it's known as the duck bill, oregon state park officials originally said they didn't think the break was caused by humans. but cell phone video shows a group of vandals knocking it over.

using pepper spray on police is due in court today. he has a history ever resisting arrest. and over-20 active warrants against him. they say he was trying to break in an apartment in brighton sunday morning. police say when they arrived, armelio ran up to the build's roofer, pepper sprayed two officers and used a rope to swing into a apartment. he's accused of punching that tenant in the he is facing numerous rjz cha. police are searching for a man who sexually assaulted a woman on the greenway this morning. nicole jacobs is live in boston. she's got a closer look at that investigation. nicole. >> reporter: ken, you can see now there's a little bit of daylight. this is a heavily populated area with businesses and it certainly has the potential for foot traffic as well. but this is an incident that

that a man in his 40s or 50s, whites or hispanic, approached her. she also told them he sexual, sexually sought her. he's described as about 5'5" with scruff on his face. the area is known to tourists and generally safe and well lit. so news is seshlgly alarming. >> seeing it's been a sex assault, makes they think i maybe need think of boston. >>reporter: no arrests have been made. certainly police are surging people tock -- to be vigilant in thisser aand come forward if they have any information. we're lye in boston, nicole jacobs, wbz this morning. the driver accused of hitting a jogger and speeding away is behind bars. police say witnesses helped to chase her down. seekonk police say two people jumped in separate cars and took off after the suspect on route

before leaving town again in october. and they have one pretty important thing to do first. figure out a way to keep the government open. spending legislation expires on october 1st and that could lead to another government shutdown. new overnight, president obama making history becoming the first sitting u.s. president to visit the southeast asia country of laos. obama is one of seven world leaders attending a regional summit in the country this week. he was set to meet privately with the president but has put that on hold insult just one day before the summit. this morning, the philippine's president expressed regret for those comments. a massachusetts man accused of threatening to assassinate president obama and attack a mosque is due in federal court tomorrow for a detention hearing. joseph gargiulo of holliston was arrested last week. he's also accused of stockpiling weapons and planning to kill police officers. a friend told authorities he was

denies making any threats. a hearing today in bill cosby a trial could bring key evidence to light. lawyers for the comedian are fighting to keep out nearly 1,000 pages of damaging testimony he gave in his accuser' lawsuit. a judge could also set a trial date today. cosby's charged with drugging and molesting a woman he mentored at temple university back in 2004. and former saturday night live star to rehab. a spoke persons the 72 year old is being treated for an alcohol-related issue in minnesota. it's not the first time the actor has been treated for addiction issues. he checked into the betty ford clinic for a painkiller addiction back in 1996. this morning on the health watch, researchers in europe say oral on tra accept tiff use has led to a drop in ovarian cancer deaths in women worldwide. they say a decline in hormone

. new overnight, hurricane newton made landfall in mexico. a popular tourist destination could be hid by winds up to 90 miles per hour. officials are warning heavy rain could cause flash floods and mudslides. boy really tough down there. 6:44 is our time right now. let's check in with danielle. we're hawking about hermine. >> she's kind of meandering here to the south and still packing 65-mile-per-hour winds. but that's just to the northwest of the center of the storm. so there's still some strong wind out over the ocean. hermine post tropical. no longer has the tropical characteristics but still has that strong wind. it will curve up and pass over the cape by the time we get tomorrow night in a weakened form. so it will not have 65 miles per hour winds at the center of the so the big i am -- biggest impacts is rough seas and erosion over the next couple of days.

issue too. damaging wind, coastal al flooding, it's low to literally minimal risk here with some showers over the next 24 to 48 hours. thankfully the tides have been low. so costal flooding is not a big threat. current wind gusts, 20 to perhaps 30 miles per hour. it's spotty so it's not the 40, 50, 60 miles per hour gusts we had yesterday. and the damaging risk for any outages, things like that is pretty much done. 63 in boston r a little bit of light rain out there right now. you'll needed wipers in inter mitt lently. nothing all that soaking. boston getting some of it. couple sprinkleses here through the merrimack valley. we have a back edge here or i should say an edge that's moving northwest ward from south hingham back to rockland.

sprinkle that's you'll encounter near the canal town to the vineyard and few pockets of rain from wesley to provincetown. so this is what i'm talking with, the -- talking about, the back edge moving through the interior here. these bands of moisture from the leftovers still pressing across new england. we need something to kick hermine out of here. that's why it's slowing down and stalling. there's nothing back to the west at least immediately. but in the midwest, next front that's the kicker. going to push hermine out of here. so next couple of days here's the hour by hour. spotty showers, maybe a brief downpour but notice that, peeks of sunshine here and there through the afternoon definitely possible. that will help boost our temperatures into the 70s for most of us today. they'll still be notice a couple of showers and downpours around through the evening and overnight as well. so a high of 73 in boston today. 75 in norwood. again most of us middle -- lower
