light showers right along the south coast of bris tal and plymouth county. you're getting a quick sprinkle right near new bedford. we may see a shower or two today, but overall the trend will be for mainly dry weather. fog burns off by mid to late morning. isolated shower with peeks of sunshine. it's going to be humid. highs in the mid-70s for midday and topping out in the 80s through the afternoon with a blend of sun and clouds for the ride home. speaking of rides, let'set >> right now, crews are finishing up overnight construction in the sumner tunnel. the left lane of the tunnel and ramp have been closed since 11:30 last night. they are supposed to reopen any minute now. it is scheduled to be completely closed down. that was postponed so we will let you know what day it is rescheduled for. looking elsewhere around the city, the fog is what's really going to slow you down this morning. like danielle said, there is a quarter mile visibility along

expressway. so keep this in mind for the commute. >> a little soupy out there. breaking news from overnight. a kayaker missing found safe. we have new details coming in. >> our nick giovanni is live with the very latest. >> reporter: some good news to start this morning. the search as you mentioned is over. the kayaker located and we understand he is okay, which is of course, best case scenario for search crews who worked helicopter in the air, boats in the water, all searching across quincy bay for 30-year-old kieg rager who was reported missing just before 10:00 last night. this after he went out in a gray seven-foot kayak like the one you see here on the screen. now early this morning, investigators say they got a call from his girlfriend saying he showed up at home safe and sound. he said his kayak overturned. he have not wearing a life jacket at the time. but did mag to swim ashore by

now investigators plan to talk more with him later this morning. certainly welcome news, though, to start this day as search crews were up against pretty foggy conditions out here. we do understand the kayak itself is still missing this morning. so you are asked if you do find it to contact the coast guard. we're live in quincy this morning. >> all right. nick, thanks. some developing news here in boston where police are investigating a shooting in dorchester. a man was shot on ripley no word on the victim's condition yet or whether police have made any arrests in that case. six people including three children rushed to the hospital for carbon monoxide poisoning. it's -- firefighters were called for a strange smell last night. turned out to be a problem with the oil burner. that's when they discovered the problem. fire officials say the levels were extremely high. everyone was ordered out of the 16 units at the riverside condominium community. >> the alarm went off, so i

smell something. so i grabbed my dog and. >> it's a good thing somebody called. he smelled something funny and it turned -- turned into a bit serious situation. >> the six victims are in mgh where they have a hyperbaric chamber. residents were allowed back in once the air had been cleaned out. a driver has been charged in that deadly crash at sweet tomatoes in newton six months ago. bradford casler is charged with two counts of motor vehicle homicide in one count of operating a motor vehicle to endanger. the man lost control of his suv and drove into the pizza shop on march 1st. customers gragory morin and eleanor miele were killed instantly. seven other people were injured. miele's mother says she's been waiting for a long time for this. >> he has to be accountable for something. it's tough. and it still is tough, i'll tell you. i still -- every day when the

calling me. >> casler's arraignment hasn't been scheduled yet. in the meantime, protective barriers are going up in front of that restaurant. we should know by friday whether boston police will be forced to win the body cameras. it's now up to a judge who is expected to make the decision by the end of the week. when officers didn't volunteer for the pilot program, the police commissioner randomly chose 100 officers to participate. well, their union sued arguing that forced them to wear six commuter rail employees have been fired over issues with their attendance and timecards. keogh list the company subcontract to run the commuter rail says an internal audit found the issues in the mechanical department. the employees broke the rules of ethics and violated the taxpayers' trust. three other employees are under investigation. most students in the city of boston are heading back to school today. >> and local officials will be

hyde park this morning. she had more on this. >> reporter: good morning, to you ken ken. good morning, kate. school is back in session. measure is over. for more than 200,000 students here in boston. and for many of them they'll be greeted by superintendent tommy chang and mayor marty walsh today. in fact, the mayor launched this new video which he created at a local elementary school here. it's welcoming back of course, we have to address the ongoing issues of lead the school system has had. additional schools tested positive for traces of lead over the summer. the superintendent says where the problem has not been rectified, bottles water will be available. but there are also starting something new this school year, and that is they will flush every single water fountain at every single school every single morning. they believe that will get rid

for kids getting to and from school, these are from the district attorney's office this morning. he recommended that students walk in groups, that they cross the street at intersections so they can use the crosswalk and the crossing guard. and of course never walk behind or in front of a bus. now here at new mission high school, it begins at 7:40. again, this is where both the mayor and the superintendent will be on hand today back students and staff. we'll of course bring that to you when it happens. we're live in hyde park this morning, nicole jacobs, wbz this morning. today is ply mary day in massachusetts. there are no statewide races but there are con testified open seats on the cape and berkshires. several counties will be electing new sheriffs. voter turnout is expected to be low with only 10% of registered voters casting ballots. polls are open from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.

former massachusetts governor will speak to students at emerson college today. wells is running with gary johnson on the libertarian ticket but the first big test will be securing a spot in the televised debate. to do that, they need 15% of the vote in the public opinion polls. and one person who really wants to see that happen is another former massachusetts governor, is mitt romney tweeted. i hope voters get to see former gop governors gar ry johnson and wells on the s romney has been vocal about his opposition to donald trump and says he has not ruled out voting for johnson and wells. hillary clinton and donald trump are back on the campaign trail today. last night they took the stage, the same stage, answering questions from veterans. wbz hannah daniels has highlights. >> reporter: donald trump fought to win over voters including service men and women last night. maintaining he was against the war in iraq. >> i was totally against the war

our traffic cameras this morning. this is columbia road. there's already an accident blocking the right lane one exit up from here. if we go back to talking about the fog, there is a quarter mile visibility along the coast. so you will need to use your fog lights along route three here. the expressway and also up along the northshore this morning. >> and bost has signed a contract with the owner of the td garden to give city hall plaza a makeover for the winter. it i and european inspired holiday shopping market with food and drink vendors housed in sha lays. this is the next step in the mayor's plan to make city hall a more vibrant space year round. the winter wonderland will open after thanksgiving. they want to put pick nick tables on the plaza and garden. it sounds nice. west wood's notorious low-langing bridge claims yet

can opening rer -- can opener bridge. fortunately with, no one has been hurt. there is now a reward for information about the person who took that lobster sculpture from a park. neighbors have been chipping in to build a reward hoping it will eventually lead to the return of the lobster. the 150-pound sculptor vanished on saturday. it's part of an art display sponsoredif commerce. el move-in weekend is proving costly for landlords that don't fix problems. the city has nearly 3500 fines for things like excessive trash and hundreds for for violations of building codes. still the head of inspectional services says overall, this year wasn't as bad as years past. with kids back in school, packing lunches is sadly a thing again. but nutritionist say there are some things you should avoid, like processed deli meat.

southshore. you can see some back-up already starting right there in kingston. we're seeing more fog over the expressway and northshore. there's already been one doesn't on the expressway. we don't know if it's weather related. use caution before you head out this morning. ken. >> all right. thank you. breaking news overnight in quincy. a kayaker missing for most of the night found safe. we've learned 30-year-old kyle rager's kayak overturned and he officials say he was not wearing a life jacket and lost all of his belongings. his kayak is still adrift right now. the search was called off around 2:30 this morning. that's -- that's when his girlfriend called to report he was safe. this is a reminder to wear a life jacket and come prepared with the proper emergency gear. and developing news, police investigating a deadly shooting in dorchester. a man was shot on ripley road last night. so far, no arrests have been made. students at boston

mbta commuter train. police have not released the victim's identity penting notification of his parents in china. investigators say the 17-year-old apparently walked right on the tracks and was hit tuesday night. an employee found the teenager's body and another train was held for three hours. >> preliminary investigation should guess this is just a tragic horrendous accident. >> i looked out the window and i saw dozens of police on the flashlights. and we saw a body strauld out. >> police are still investigating how and why that student got on the tracks. a han is being held without bond accused of posing aing a awe eastbound driver. investigators say last weekend 18-year-old samuel tex adore offered the student a free ride. they say he then indecently assaulted her in his car. she demanded he stop the car.

today dr. rick sacra starts a bike ride across massachusetts. he will make stops across the way to discuss the resurgence of hiv in countries like liberia which are still healing from the ebola outbreak a few years ago. he contracted ebola while serving as a missionary physician there. the dog who was a victim of serious abuse is now settling in with his new family. story. maverick chewed off part of his own paw to escape a tether. well he was rescued by animal control officers. now he has a new forever home. >> it's like we had known him for years. within minutes he rolled over and wanted his belly rubbed. >> maverick's paw is still healing, as you can see. he has another surgery scheduled for today, in many. but vets say he is going to be

30-year-old -- learned this morning. he has been located safe and sound. the coast guard got a call from rager's girlfriend around 2:15 this morning. she said the kayak had overturned last night when he went out. he was not wearing a life jacket at the time she says. but he did manage to swim ashore. his kayak still adrift, though, this morning. the good news, though, he is okay. investigators want to touch much more about exactly what happened last night. again, this that's the latest here from quincy. nick geovany. the bank robbery suspect who sparked a massive search in berlin on sunday has now been arrested. police say the suspect was caught in westboro. he had been spotted sunday by an officer who gave up the chase when it got too dangerous. of the man was wanted for a robbery last week. three firefighters are recovering after this house fire. the fire burned through this historic building just outside
