on. >> reporter: they say 38-year- old ben kimble was in his car and told police he was armed. >> he fold the officer he had to back off, that he had a gun and a bomb and was going to blow the place up. two other officers arrived on scene. he pulled the gas off one of the pumps. >> reporter: s.w.a.t. teams boxed him in with heavy equipment. using loud speakers, they tried to get kimble to the standoff continued for four hours, then he tried to run for it but deposit get far. >> he sustained minor injuries on the back of his leg. he was taken down by one of the police k-9s and they performed a less lethal shot. >> reporter: bob lives across the street and saw it all. >> i saw him run out of his car and heading towards this way.

and they captured him. >> reporter: as it turns out, kimble did not have a weapon. he waved this black video controller at police. that was before he was taken down. kimble was rushed by ambulance to morton hospital. he was taken down in part by police dog. he will probably around noon. he told police at the time he was having mental health issues. tone a serious situation in massachusetts. the area of extreme drought has expanded and it is doing so fast. the little rain that we've received has done little to put a dent in the drought. eric fisher is here tonight with a closer look. it is just not getting any

>> no, it's not. extreme drought now covering a large area as we've seen very little rainfall. even when it rains a little bit, it is just a trace here a couple hundreds of an inch here. here's a look at how things have changed. nearly a fifth of new hampshire, the southern parts of the state has expanded by nearly 30% a little bit of rainfall in the forecast as we head toward the weekend and the start of next week. here's the story. this is a long-term drought. it started in 2015. now we have a deficit of over 18 inches in the city of boston. that's not something a few storms will cure. that's something months, if not a couple of years needed. sunday we start to bring a chance for showers and downpours.

stand was a friend of the victim who was with him on the day that he was killed. opening statements in the murder trial for peter castile started today. he is a sailorman accused of shooting and killing a young army veteran, steven perez, jr. perez survived two tours in the middle east but died in his home state after he was shot in his back in a parking garage after a night of partying in the theater district in boston. four wss stand including the victim's childhood friend michael. he was with perez the night of the murder using surveillance, describing to the jury what he remembered happening. >> other than steven fighting with the kid with the dreads or the person with the dreads, did you see steven hit anybody else? >> no, just in defense. >> okay. so in defense when? >> when they ganged up on him.

group? >> from that group. >> did you hit anybody that night, sir? >> no. >> reporter: did anybody hit you? >> no. >> reporter: that was the last witness that was called from the stand today. tomorrow, the judge plans to call one or two more witnesses before taking the jury out on a trip to the site of the shooting. sad news out of plymouth tonight where recovery crews foth swimmer. yesterday, a 26-year-old man and his two friends were swimming when a strong wind blew their boat away from them. the victim never made it back to shore. lowell police say the man who hit a woman crossing the street then took off has turned himself in. the 19-year-old victim is out of the hospital. investigators say the driver, 22-year-old reomel romero is cooperating. vice presidential nominee

hillary clinton's numbers. he was campaigning in exeter and tonight, donald trump will rally supporters in laconia. hillary clinton is campaigning for the first time since she almost collapsed on sunday. clinton spent the past few days recovering from pneumonia. she is back wasting no time going after trump. >> reporter: hillary clinton was steady on her feet as she walked to meet the press on her campaign's plane. >> how are you doing? >> i am doing great. >> reporter: she's back on the trail for the first time since her legs buckled during a 9/11 memorial event in new york last sunday. clinton released her health records wednesday showing a ct scan revealed pneumonia. she was prescribed a ten-day course of antibiotics and rest. trump followed suit thursday and disclosed he's taking a drug to lower his cholesterol. >> i experimented with three statins. one seems for me to work the

we know about droughts. as we look toward next week, we start with rain and then warm weather back at it tuesday, wednesday, and thursday. new research may give men dealing with early stage prostate cancer more confidence in how they decide to treat the disease. with more on that, dr. mallika marshall shows up tonight. >> reporter: it can be a difficult decision how do we treat it? for early stage prostate cancer, two new studies out of the u.k. suggest after ten years is 99%. that's regardless whether the man has surgery or chooses a watch and wait approach. oftentimes treatment can lead to severe side effects including sexual dysfunction as well as bowel and bladder problems. right now, half of men with early stage prostate cancer choose monitoring over treatment. scientists say after ten years, treatment may provide additional survivor benefits
