on. >> reporter: they say 38-year- old ben kimble was in his car and told police he was armed. >> he fold the officer he had to back off, that he had a gun and a bomb and was going to blow the place up. two other officers arrived on scene. he pulled the gas off one of the pumps. >> reporter: s.w.a.t. teams boxed him in with heavy equipment. using loud speakers, they tried to get kimble to the standoff continued for four hours, then he tried to run for it but deposit get far. >> he sustained minor injuries on the back of his leg. he was taken down by one of the police k-9s and they performed a less lethal shot. >> reporter: bob lives across the street and saw it all. >> i saw him run out of his car and heading towards this way.

and they captured him. >> reporter: as it turns out, kimble did not have a weapon. he waved this black video controller at police. that was before he was taken down. kimble was rushed by ambulance to morton hospital. he was taken down in part by police dog. he will probably around noon. he told police at the time he was having mental health issues. tone a serious situation in massachusetts. the area of extreme drought has expanded and it is doing so fast. the little rain that we've received has done little to put a dent in the drought. eric fisher is here tonight with a closer look. it is just not getting any

>> no, it's not. extreme drought now covering a large area as we've seen very little rainfall. even when it rains a little bit, it is just a trace here a couple hundreds of an inch here. here's a look at how things have changed. nearly a fifth of new hampshire, the southern parts of the state has expanded by nearly 30% a little bit of rainfall in the forecast as we head toward the weekend and the start of next week. here's the story. this is a long-term drought. it started in 2015. now we have a deficit of over 18 inches in the city of boston. that's not something a few storms will cure. that's something months, if not a couple of years needed. sunday we start to bring a chance for showers and downpours.
