boston. that's where the focus of some of the heaviest rain is right now and it's pouring. tropical downpours right over brookfield. we had some claps of thunder in there earlier light of lightning tracker on here right now. no total strikes but all this rain is causing issues ponding water on the roadways pax son to the deeper yellows and oranges that's where the rain is coming down hardest. so from princeton to leominster and shrly extending north and east for now. through up along route 3 and pouring in nashua and wyndham and pelham. the leading edge of the rain is hugging 495 from westford to lowell and parts of the merrimack valley. and we have a few lone downpours over lawrence and stretching back up through hamp stead new hampshire -- hampstead new hampshire.

fbi investigating several suspicious devices found inside a backpack near a train station. one exploded as a bomb squad robot tried to disarm it. >> the fbi questioning five people pulled over during a traffic stop in connection with saturday's explosion in new york city. let's get to nicole jacobs tracking the latest developments from the satellite center for us. >> reporter: the latest situation involves 5 devices found in backpack in elizabeth new jersey. no arrests have been made in any of the incidents authorities have made no official connection between them. new overnight, a suspicious package discovered in a elizabeth new jersey. found in a trash can by two men not believed to be suspects. >> saw there were wires attached to some pipes and dropped it and then they walked over to police headquarters and reported what they found. >> reporter: the men dumped the package under the railroad which shut down the transit while authorities investigated. it's unclear if that investigation is now connected

officials pulled over the vehicle questioning those inside all in connection to the new york city explosions. surveillance video object tanned by nbc shows the moments the blast went off sending many running to safety. >> was it a political motivation a personal motivation? what was it we don't know yet. >> reporter: a second device a pressure cooker bomb found four blocks away. detonated by authorities. >> it was an explosion and we felt it from bomb planted at a charity raise race in seaside new jersey no connection or motive. >> at this time there's no evidence of an international terrorism connection with this incident. >> reporter: no terrorist group claimed responsibility for any of the events as hundreds of international dignitaries arrive in the city for the u.n.

chelsea new york blast. all of them have been released from the hospital. again, no arrests have been made but five people overnight have been questioned. in the satellite center nicole jacobs wbz this morning. >> thanks very much. there is no specific threat in massachusetts but state intelligence official say they are communicating with each other state leaders are saying that they are increasing security and taking extra precautions. >> we are monitoring the situation in new york city and we are taking some safety ourselves to make sure everything is okay but we have been checking barrel and making sure it's a safe road. >> see something say something may sound a little corny but the truth is that's a ton of eyes and ears paying attention to this stuff and can make a difference. >> the second bomb that didn't go off in manhattan saturday was similar to the ones used in 2013. wbz security analyst ed davis says that he a concerning

with cell phone detonators. that's a step up in sophistication from what we saw in boston. that gives them the ability to detonate the thing from anywhere and it's very troubling. >> mass state police say the commonwealth fusion center is monday todaying information and will determine if there is any connection to massachusetts. and while the motive is unclear for the explosion in new york the fbi is investigating an attack in minnesota as a possible act of terrorism. a 22-year-old is a money -- somali man dressed a spriest security guard stabbed 9 people saturday night. witnesses say he made references to al and asked one person -- allah and asked one person if they were muslim. he was a soldier the islamic state. an off-duty police officer killed the attacker. 6 of the 9 victims have been released from the hospital this morning and all are expecteded to recover. -- int-- expected to recover. police searching for a suspect after a shooting outside a nightclub in allston

club known as the garage. police say man was shot multiple times and a bullet grazed his head. investigators say this started with a fight. >> it started with an altercation instied the -- inside the club that spilled on the street in the parking lot and when the gunshots rang out. >> the club is on linden street officers say the victim managed to get around the corner on prat street where he collapsed. he was taken to the hospital. police telling us the victim is expected to survive. newton man restaurant and killing two people is expected to be in court today. police say bradford kessler crashed into sweet tomatoes in march. the two victims were killed. 7 others were injured and kessler will be arraigned this morning at middlesex superior court. over to campaign 2016 this morning, hillary clinton heading to philadelphia today to hold a campaign event there aimed at attracter younger voters and then head to new

at the general assembly. clinton will appear on the tonight show tonight and also tonight duval patrick will hold a event for clinton in newton. the massachusetts senator warren criticized trump for leading charge on the birther movement before backing down and the republican nominee will hit the campaign trail today. donald trump will be in floridahave a scheduled this afternoon and a fund- raiser in orlando tonight. we are a week away from the first of three presidential debates next monday september 26th here on wbz live. for the first time since 1990, the red sox swept four games from the yankees. another huge night for ramirez who hit two home runs including the solo shot in the 7th. the red sox were up 5-4 and that's the final score.

the east side of brookfield stretching back up to worcester and 209 and this extends along the route 2 corridor. we got out of it and had over ionch and a half in polices like orange and then lesser amounts the farther east you come but there's downpours in between sterling and leominster extending through westford and 459 on the leading edge of some of the lighter he rain. areas of rain -- lighter rain. areas of rain heavy from and southern new hampshire and a few downpours in the merrimack valley so traveling along 213, methuen lawrence a few downpours for you and there's been a couple that just started to develop as of the last 20 minutes. down near buzzardsard's bay we will nick the coastline and they are he moving off to the north and east. places like wareham and bourne may get into this the next 30 minutes or so.

dew points 70. it's soupy and a tropical air mass there's a lot of moisture and it's going stay unsettled with additional downpours popping up. one band north and west of boston slowly lifting off to the north and east. but you zoom out the view and there's more wet weather to get through down through eastern pennsylvania and new jersey. it's slow moving front that's pushing through today and that does mean you want the umbrella or raincoat. notice what happens between now and mid to late morning a lot of rain weak additional downpours are cropping up here. so i didn't -- weakens by midday additional downpours are creeping up here. by the time we get in the evening a few leftover downpours and scattered showers. lighter he for the most part but be mindful there will be areas of reduced visibility and road spray that may slow you down for this morning and evening commute as well. highs in the mid to upper 70s today. tonight we drop back into the 60s and we will get patchy fog

during the day tomorrow but we will be warmer overall with high temperatures topping out in the low to mid-80s. there may be a shower along the south coast that lingers tomorrow. wednesday more sunshine less humid and fall starts on thursday and it's going to feel like summer. highs in the low 80s. chance of a late day thunderstorm on friday brings a big change and highs in the 60s breana. >> reporter: a new accident before you head out the door. this one is in peabody route southbound right before the lynnfield tunnel. the accident off to the left hand side and there's 5 to 10 minutes worth of traffic there. there's also the multicar crash on 495 south in lowell at lowell connector. only the right lane is getting by. we will let you know he when both accidents clear. quincy residents have not had ferry service to downtown boston since 2013. but since august 1 they have been trying tout a temporary ferry from marina bay.

and more like commuter can say see you to the expressway. >> awesome. >> reporter: it will me why. >> because i get to use it. >> reporter: quincy residents are happy to have a ferry in the backyard again. >> very convenient. and i think a lot of business people should use it in the morning because it's only a 25 minute ride into boston. verse ois getting in the car which is much longer. >> reporter: the municipally run ferry service. as a partnership between the city of winthrop quincy and the commonwealth of massachusetts, the ferry began providing service to a from quantityon point park and rose what are into we thought it was a great opportunity to test it what is the real public interest and those people that want to use it and we have had overwhelming positive response. >> reporter: during the first five weeks of service half of all the fareers were from

for a quarter he back stat. >> absolutely. >> let's bring in danielle miles. rainy monday morning. >> it's been a while since we have had rainy morning commute but it is in spots and we have had rainfall amounts over 3 inches that have come down. most sky warn spotter reports from the central and western part of the state but over 3 inches in royalston and greenfield nearly 2 inches and an inch d inches with the heavy rain that pushed through. let's zoom in and show you where it is absolutely pouring in worcester. deep reds you can barely see when you are under some of the tropical downpours and they have had a history of producing localized urban flooding. so slow your speed out there through clinton and royalston and ponding water hydroplaning

foxborough and you geted road spray and adviceibility reduced to near zero at times. all of it moving north and east. a few downpours just developing over buzzard's bay. it will affect the cape and islands. 72 in boston. to it's humid and sticky and that moisture is going to fuel additional downpours right on through early afternoon. so it's a day you want the umbrella or raincoat and an embedded thrs map at 6:30 should be quieter with leftover scattered showers. it's been a while breana but it's causing a mess. >> reporter: it is but we don't talk about new hampshire traffic but there is dangerous conditions on 93 south. multiple cars are high drone play planing and spinning off --hydroplaning and spinning offroad because of the rain and it's pouring. it's happening along 93 south.

manchester hooksett so be aware of the wet roads if you live to the north. chris and kate. >> thanks very much breana. we are following a developing breaking news from new jersey this morning. the fbi investigating several suspicious devices found inside a backpack near a train station. one of them exploded as a bomb squad robot tried to disarm it. >> also breaking overnight, the fbi questioning five people pulled over during a traffic stop in connection with saturday's explosion in new york city. wbz nicole jacobs is tracking the developments nicole. >> reporter: no arrests have been made but officials are trying to determine if there's a connection and who is responsible. the latest incident happening around 9:30 last night in elizabeth new jersey authorities say two men not believed to be suspects found a package in trash can and walked under the railroad with the backpack before they realized the potential dangers. >> saw there were wires attached to some pipes and

to police headquarters reported what they found and police came out and looked at it and called the union county bomb squad and union county bomb squad sent adrone into the location and they verified it's suspicious at this time. >> reporter: the investigation is less than an hour after fbi officials in brooklyn pulled over a vehicle where five people were questioned in connection to the explosion investigation in chelsea new york. surveillance video object the pressure cooker bomb went off sending many running to safety. 29 people were injured and all have been released from the hospital. just a few blocks away another pressure cooker bomb found before it went off. but new york -- both new york incidents happened after an explosion along the course of a charity run in seaside new jersey no one was injured there. although there are similarities

opioid and heroin ep dem exawareness week. the president says the goal is to hold events that discuss the dangers of those drugs. the white house says the number of deadly overdoses has almost quadrupled in just the past 17 years. more people in massachusetts are covered by health insurance than ever before. the globe reports that less than 3% of the state's residents are not covered. that's the lowest rate ever. massachusetts universal health care plan served as model for president obama federal overhaul. u.s. censu nationally 9.4% are without health insurance still and that's down more than 6% since 2010. meeting tonight propose -- about the proposed restoration of passenger rail service between the south coast and boston. it is one of several being held by massdot and mbta. designers are considering new connection by using the existing stoughton commuter rail line. the meeting at 6:30 at the high school auditorium in canton.

a humpback whale rescued off the coast of chatham this weekend. the marine animal entanglement response team was called after boaters reported the whale in distress. it was tangeled in fishing gear with the line through the mouth and anchored to the sea floor. the team used a 30 foot poll to cut the line and free the the open ocean. >> talking about the weekend not a bad weekend saturday pretty nice and yesterday, even though it was cloudy it was warm and muggy. >> yeah. pretty warm and muggy and a muggy start this morning. >> yeah although, finally seeing some rain danielle. >> finally. and any sort of rain we get is welcomed news absolutely. kid are going to want the umbrella. and raincoat as they head out. temperatures in the 70s today and it will be sticky and there's a threat for a shower downpour pretty much at any point on through the afternoon.

you can see two focusings is -- focuses one is north and west of boston and the other near buzzard's bay with down are pours and wet get them -- and we will get there in second. boylston and clinton all of this is going to stretch east towards marlboro and it's either side of 495 but this is the type of rain where it's coming down so hard even with the wipers on the fastest speed it's hard to keep up. uponning water on roadways. road spray kicking up reduced visibility so take it slow. slow your speeds down. lowell areas to light moderate rain. tewksbury pouring and same with the north side of andover and in through southern new hampshire it's lighter along 93 but the damage is done in terms of thewet roadways. haverhill and essex county downpours clipping the coastline near gloucester and a few more that extend all the
