breaking news from north carolina. violent protest in charlotte hours after a deadly officer- involved shooting. police say 12 officers were injured in these demonstrations. one hit in the face with a rock. you can see the protesters jumping on and damaging a police car. officers in riot gear fired tear gas to break up the crowdch the protest are -- crowd. the protests are in response for the shooting of keith lamont scott. police were searching for dien apartment complex yesterday afternoon when scott got out of the car with a gun. >> as they engaged him, he is armed with a handgun we found on the scene as well. makes a threat to them and because of that at least one of the officers fired. >> scott's family disputes the story saying he was sitting in the car reading a book while waiting for his son's school bus. both scott and the officer who shot him are black.

involved shooting. now to a developing story a 2-year-old boy is in the hospital after being hit by a car in brockton. >> anna meiler is live with the very latest. anna. >> reporter: that boy suffered life-threatening injuries. the driver that hit him did stop and stay on the scene and police are trying figure out what happened. friends and neighbors tried to console a grief stricken grandfather after a car hit in brockton. >> i just hear him screaming and crying. >> reporter: she is one of the neighbors who helped and witnessed the aftermath. >> i saw the mom going crazy went down the street and she fell down the floor. >> reporter: brockton police say the toyota camry hit the 2- year-old leaving him critically injured. >> i just snow he is not-- know he is not doing so good. >> reporter: the driver stopped and stayed at the scene as accident reconstruction crews
