some congestion in that area. that's that yellow orange happening in both directions. we are working to get more information. we'll keep you updated. >> thank you very much. we start with breaking news this morning. a state of emergency in charlotte, north carolina. the national guard brought in overnight -- overnight to deal with protests there. a man is in critical condition after being shot by a civilian. >> the unrest in reaction to a deadly officer- involved shooting. don champion has the very latest this morning from charlot. the overnight hours as protesters faced off with heavily armed officers. tear gas filled the air and at least one flash bang exploded. as officers moved in to clear the street. the scene played out as anger over the deadly police shooting of keith scott spilled on to the streets for a second night. some demonstrators were arrested

charlotte's vibrant uptown area mounted, windows were mashed. >> justice justify everything. if you give the black man justice in accordance to the laws of the land, there will be no need for this. >> reporter: at one point a man was shot in the head by another civilian drawing raw emotion from this protester. >> we came out here for peace, this is not how we succeed. i was wiping off his blood. i was sitting right next to him. there was no life in his eyes. >> reporter: fueling the ut, led up to keith scott's death tuesday. >> i want people to know that we are going to make sure that our investigation is thorough and it is transparent. >> reporter: police say the 43 year old ignored repeated demands to drop a gun when they confronted him at this apartment complex. but family members insist he was holding a book, not a weapon. don champion, cbs news, charlotte. also breaking overnight,

motorcycle crash near the lawrence live. >> what can you tell us? >> reporter: well, chris you can see here behind me along route 114 it has the potential to be a pretty busy roadway here. it was completely shutdown for some time while authorities investigated and processed this scene here. but i want to get you right to some video of crews on the scene overnight. the crash happened just before 11:00 p.m. and while details are officials are confirming. one person is dead and two others were taken to the hospital with injuries. right now we know at least one motorcycle was involved. but the circumstances surrounding the crash are still unclear. and under investigation taking another live look here along route 114, the roadway is back open but again, one person is dead, two others injured, taken

investigation. we're live on the lawrence north andover line, nicole jacobs, wbz this morning. >> nicole, thank you. also breaking news in salem. fire tears through a home. this started around 2:30 this morning. crews saw heavy flames near the porch in the back of that building. one person was at that time -- taken to the hospital. cell phone video shows rescuers struggling to lift a wrecked suv off a group of that land rover and took it for a joyride. it started in jamaica plain yesterday when a woman called 911 saying those teenagers stole -- stole her suv. witnesses say police chased the land rover into roxbury. witnesses saw that land rover speed on to warren street and then flip. >> when he hit this corner, you can't drive too good, so he just flipped over. >> witnesses say one of the teenagers jumped out of the suv. they say he's the one handcuffed

for two potential witnesses from saturday's bombing in new york city. these are the two men that investigators want to talk to. they say those men took a suitcase they found on the street after removing an undetonated bomb from it. that was the second pressure cooker bomb in chelsea that did not go off of the investigators are not calling them suspected but they say they want to talk to them and they want that luggage as evidence. we're also getting look at the bloody journal police say rahami was carrying when he was captured. they say this notebook is full of terror-related rambling. rahami is still in the hospital this morning. we're told he's still not cooperating with police. officials say his wife will return to the united states soon. new this morning, another incident of racism being investigated at a local middle school. arlington school's superintendent says two students got into a fight at the otisson middle school last week and one of them started yelling racially

the parents were notified and punishments were issued. this is the third incident this year in march racist graffiti was found in a bathroom. in june, racist texting incident happened and it turned out to be a hoax. new this morning, a vandal attacks a boston landmark. the globe reports someone threw a rock through an original stained glass window. that cathedral is the mother church of the boston around a relic, a spokesperson says to the globe that repairs will cost about $3,000. the department of justice is fatting wheat ton college fort way they say they handled the rain claim. the school did not respond to the initial report, then it did little to prevent the suspect from contacting his accuser. and it did not stop retaliation

the student complained. the school has signed an agreement to now change its policies. a woman on a collision course with a duck boat, take a look at this. surveillance cameras show her walking right off the curb and into the path of a dung boat. wry anna is -- brianna -- duck boat. >> reporter: this happened at boylston. it appears to show the woman not looking at traffic o duck boats came under fire after a moped was killed one bun. since then -- killed by one. some say that nothing can stop poor judgment. >> i see cars and pedestrians running in front of them all the time. i see people trying to double park on this corner with cars whipping around the corner. >> that woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries. now this isn't the only duck

and then in july, a woman was hit in back bay. the company says she did not have a crossing signal. >> thank you. tonight, there will be extra security at gillette stadium. state police say this is in response to the bombings in new york and new jersey. meantime, the team forced to come up with a new game plan. the patriots may be springing in the back-up's back-up tonight. it looks like rock aye jacoby brissett could get the start. >> an ma mile ler is inside the stadium. a lot of talk about who will be the starting qb tonight. >> reporter: they lifted grasp low as doubtful on the injury report yesterday. meaning brissett will likely make his first nfl start here at gillette stadium against the texans tonight. but the coach hasn't made anything official yet. all eyes are on rookie

cooler air mass. high pressure in control of our weather for now means a dry day today and warm temperatures. 78 in boston. we'll call it right around 88 at the coastline with a little sea breeze. 84 bedford, lawrence. 86 in manchester. most of us in the middle 80s here through the interior. thursday night football good to go at gillette stadium tonight. are you tailgating, 5:30, sunny, warm. we'll be in the low 80s and then falling back once the sun sets with a clear skies, 72 for kickoff and then falling in the game. mostly clear tonight. 62 for an overnight low downtown. most of the suburbs will be dropping into the 50s overnight tonight. and then tomorrow will be another warm day into the 80s. but i want you to notice the shading here on the map see how it goes from orange to green color. cooler air is going to coming in. the front pushes through during the afternoon and evening. so clouds build in tomorrow. there may be a passing shower

that's leading into the cool air. temperatures in the mid-60s, lower 60s with sunshine on sunday. chilly morning on monday. could be a couple of areas of frost in the chilliest suburbs. >> we have some new information on that back-up happening on route two. there's an accident in the eastbound lanes. this is eastbound lanes, again, route two at route 62. traffic is backing uneastbound to elm street and baker avenue. there's also traffic westbound from drivers slowing down to look. that back-up is between route 62 and emerson hospital. we've heard that drivers are being detoured on to route 62. we also have some bad news if you use route 128 in the newton needham hear. -- area. part of the highway will close for the entire weekend. 128 and 95 will shut down from friday night, november 4th through the 6th. that's because crews will be tearing down the old highland avenue bridge. it's not safe for cars to be traveling underneath while

be detoured around the closure. kate. >> all right. thank you. new overnight a fire at a power plant knocks out all power to all of puerto rico. crews are working right now to get everything back on. some schools have already had to cancel classes for today as the largest hospital is canceling any eelective surgeries. a well-known travel expert fighting to legalize marijuana in massachusetts. boston mag reports funds. the issue will be on the november ballot. steves will tour the bay state for four days next month to try and convince voters to approve the measure. he has previously pushed for legalization in washington, colorado, and oregon. and steves isn't the only one weighing in. actress kate march row supported her support for a different ballot measure that would require farms and businesses here to only sell cage-free eggs.

news at 5:32. a state of emergency chloe claire in charlotte, north carolina. the national guard brought in overnight to deal with protests that turned violent. one man we're told is in critical condition after being shot. he was shot by another civilian. the unrest is in reaction to the death of keith scott who was shot and killed by police on tuesday. also breaking overnight, police investigating a deadly deadly motorcycle. it happened just before suck last night. one on 11:00 last night. all four lanes of route 114 near waverly road were shut down for several hours overnight while police investigated. police have identified the man who died after an officer-involved shooting at foxwood's resort. the suspect was 23 years olds. it's unclear if he was shot by police or died perfect a four-story fall from the parking garage. tribal police tried to take him into custody tuesday morning.

probation. they say that's when he pulled a gun on them. one officer fired and at least one shot at him. every man is being held without bail for allegely helping to lure a man into an ambush. he did not show his face in court yesterday. prosecutors say he's the third man involved in the deadly shooting of 19 year old omar reyes back in january. they say one of the men texted reyes and asked him to at the bike path where reyes was later found dead. police arrested him in june for an unrelated crime and say they discovered his flints -- fingerprints matched evidence. police searching for a man accused of stealing thousands of dollars in software. surveillance video shows the man here in the back corner of a store putting boxes of software in a shopping bag. police say he got away with more than $9,000 worth of the.

if you have any information, police want to hear from you. a rhode island man is expected to plead guilty toyed to conspireing with terrorists. they plotted to kill a conservative blogger. he's also accused of trying to recruit isis support from prison. one of the other suspects was killed by police outside of a cvs last year. david wright of everett is awaiting trial. police say what starred as an up-skirting cal the arrest of a man wanted for rape. james cull lers appeared in court yesterday. officers were first called out when a woman said she caught him up-skirting her at a porter scare t stop. after police arrested him, they learned he was a level three sex offenders who was also wanted for rape. a judge ordered cullers to wear a gps monitoring bracelet. police say they are searching for a man who scammed

million dollars. scott wolas set up shop at a real estate office under a fake name. he used a ponzi scheme to wrap up $1.6 million. right now police say they have 16 victims and they say wolas has several aliases. there are active warrants for similar charges in new york and alabama. he was last seen thursday at a u mass jfk. the catholic faithful lined up out the door and downtown street in lowell to get a glimpse of a sacred relic. this the has ever been displayed outside of italy. it was at the church yesterday and will be at the cathedral of the holy cross in boston today and tomorrow. feast day is tomorrow. massachusetts is being very good to hillary clinton, according to a recent federal election commission report, clinton has taken in more than $13.5 million donations from massachusetts residents. that's compared to just $1 million donated to donald

brought in overnight. following a second night of protests there. one man's in critical condition after being shot. police say he was shot by another civilian. the unrest is in reaction to the death of keith scott who was killed by a police officer on tuesday. >> reporter: i'm live along route 114 right on the lawrence andover line where one person is dead and two other injured. i want to get all of this is a result of a crash that happened just before 11:00 p.m. we know it involved at least one motorcycle according to north andover fire officials. those who were injured were taken to lawrence general hospital. no word on their conditions this morning. and exactly what caused the crash is still under investigation. taking another look here along route 114, it is unclear exactly what caused this crash.

the investigation took place. we know again one person dead, two others injured, as this investigation continues. we're live right along the lawrence north andover line, nicole jacobs, wbz this morning. also breaking news in salem this morning, fire tearing through a home on meadow street. this started around 2:30 this morning. crews saw heavy flames near the porch in the back of that building. one person we're told was taken to the hospital. four adults were displaced by that fire. police are investigating a officers say a 52 year old woman was hit by a car on main street yesterday. paramedics also took the driver to the hospital. police have not identified the victim. west ton police need your help this morning to find this man. they say someone overheard an odd conversation he was have with a boy. the person who called officers said the man asked the boy if he wanted a ride home and might have offered the boy money.
