sigliere. consigliere. . breaking news, a state of emergency, the national guard called in as more violent protests hit charlotte, north carolina. police fired tear gas at we know one person was shot. >> the protests were sparked we a -- by the police shooting. video of that shooting does not clearly show the man with a gun. kenneth craig reports now from charlotte. >> reporter: protests spiralled into violence for the second straight night in charlotte. vandals smashed windows and looted businesses. one person in the crowd was

flash grenades as officers tried to clear the streets. at least four officers were also hurt. >> we made a total of 44 arrests. charges range from failure to disburse to assault to breaking news. >> reporter: the violence -- assault to breaking and entering. >> reporter: it sparked -- bank of america and wells fargo to tell their employees to stay home for the day and avoid the the unrest follows the deadly police shooting of 43 keith lamont scott. police say scott had a gun, but witnesses say he had a book. >> he had a hands up. >> reporter: cbs affiliate wbtv obtained a picture they say may show a gun near the victim's feet. officials haven't released police video of the shooting. >> while it's an active investigation, we don't want to release pieces of evidence that don't make a full picture. >> reporter: but protesters are demanding it be released to help

that's turned the city upside town. kenneth craig, cbs news, charlotte. >> and we are following all the developments and -- in charlotte [ audio difficulty ]. . >> reporter: we just heard from minutes ago. he did confirm the facts of this incident. i want to get you right to some video from route 114 in lawrence right near waverly road. . the chief tells us the crash happened just before 12:30 this morning. he says it got called of people lying in the street. we know a motorcyclist actually hit two pedestrians in their 20s. 64 year old motorcyclist lost

mercedes-benz and never stopped. police believe it was a 2000, 2002 model. right now we know that farce those two pedestrians, one was med flighted to the hospital the other is at lawrence general hospital. and unfortunately we're told that motorcyclist was then hit by -- again, that black mercedes-benz, that motorcyclist has died. we know he's a 64 year old man from methuen. at this point, all of this still under investigation. we are right outside of the police department. so definitely a busy situation here as you hear the police sirens behind me. but again, this situation is still under investigation, a 64-year-old methuen motorcyclist killed after he apparently hit two pedestrians, lost control, and then was hit by a driver that never stopped. so, of course, they are on the lookout for that driver who the

someone. that's the very latest from lawrence, nicole jacobs, wbz news. new at noon, the braintree police chief is retiring as the department deals with an evidence scandal. the chief is stepping away from the department after 34 years of service. last week an audit are reels that guns and hundreds of thousands of dollars went missing from their evidence room. the missing items have caused the dismissal of several drug cases. john geils the founder of the j. geils band under on tuesday afternoon around lunchtime t he was arrested after a crash. guys was released without bail but has been ordered not to drive or drink alcohol. this is his second arrest for oui. we are getting ready for thursday night's showdown. >> there are lots of questions. and holes in the line-up right now. who will start at quarterback

north and west of, let's, say places like manchester and concord. the cold front has it slides south, brings pockets of rain in eastern massachusetts by late afternoon and evening. these showers and even isolated thunderstorms will push off the south coast by the time we get to 9:00. after that, one more warm day tomorrow, we take the plunge below average temperatures for several days in a row. a little something for everyone. we'll talk more about the weekend in detail few. >> thank you. a bizarre and creepy crime in westport, police say this man paul carmichael was naked when he approached a woman and her 10-year-old son. an off-duty state trooper nearby witnessed it and followed the man. carmichael drove away but was later arrested. he's facing lewdness charges. he admitted to similar incidents in the past. officers ask anyone with information to call them. well take a look at this.

off a group of teens they say stole that land rover and took it on a joyride. it started yesterday afternoon when i woman called 911 saying the group of teens stole her suv. witnesses tell us, police chased the land rover into roxbury but police say it wasn't a chase. witnesses saw the land rover speed on to warren street and flip. >> when he hit this corner, you can't drive too good, so he just flipped over. >> witnesses say one of the teens jumped out of the suv and was put into condition. i want to update you on the 2-year-old boy who was hit by the car. the father says he is in a medically-induced coma at mass general. but he says the boy has been able to blink his eyes. it could be several days before he wakes up though. the toddler was with his mother when he darted into the street and was hit by that car. the incident is still under investigation. so far no charges have been filed. today a rhode island man is

conspireing can with terrorists. two other men plot to kill a conservative blogger. he's also accused of trying to recruit isis support from prison. one of the other suspects was killed by police outside a cvs last year. a third suspect is awaiting trial. today is -- the search continues for two witnesses from saturday's bombing in new york city. investigators want to talk to these two men who they say took a suitcase they found on the inside. that, of course, was the second pressure cooker bomb in chelsea that did not go off. investigators are not calling them suspects but say they want to talk to them and they want that luggage as evidence. we're also getting a first look at that bloody journal that investigators say bombing suspect ahmad rahami was carrying when he was captured. they say that notebook is filled with terror-related ramblings. rahami is still in the hospital and we're told he is not

united states soon. a disturbing look at the opioid crisis and its effect on families. we want to warn you this next video is disturbing. police released it to show how bad this drug epidemic really is. a shopper at a family dollar store in lawrence shot the cell phone video. that is a mother whose overdose, she's lying unconscious on the floor, her 2-year-old daughter is crying and trying to get her mother to wake up. paramedics were able to revive th w police is worried this little girl has witnessed this before. >> it's very disturbing, you know, to see someone obviously, the matter -- the addiction overtakes someone to the point they're not able to take care of their child. >> tonight, the little girl is with the department of child and family services. that mother will be charged with child endangerment. another incident of racism being investigated at a local middle school. the arlington school superintendent says two students got into a fight at the middle

started yelling racial racially charged statements at the other. their parents were notified and punishments were issued. a vandal attacks a boston landmark. someone threw a rock through an original stained glass window at the cathedral of of the holy cross in the south end. that cathedral is the mother church of the boston archdiocese. today and tomorrow it will host a relic of saint padre pee yo -- pio. repairs will cost about $3,000. co a woman walks right into the side of a passing duck boat and the whole thing was caught on camera. why some say they're not surprised by this crash. >> also ahead, a closer look at the new safety precautions being taken for the recalled samsung galaxy note 7. >> a snazzy send off why dozens of disney characters were on hand today for one very special

i'm a public school teacher in massachusetts, and i've reviewed question 2. it will make public education even stronger, because question 2 would allow more access to public charter schools, so parents have more choices for their kids' education, and public charter schools don't take funds away from public education. in fact, question 2 will result in more funding for education in massachusetts.

of the rest of the eastern. the cool temperatures are coming. 76 in boston right now. 80 in nashua. we're in the upper 70s from concord down to jaffrey. 82 in lawrence. same in bedford. lower 80s knoll wood to taunton. 82 in new bedford right now. beautiful upper 70s in plymouth. we are 82 on the vineyard. this is like a perfect summer day. the hour by hour boston shows the sunshine is not going anywhere nor are the least for several hours. once the sun sets we'll cruise back in the lower 70s. that includes for kick off at gillette stadium. no weather-related issues. tonight will stay mostly clear. a lot of 50s in the suburbs tonight with a light southwest breeze. tomorrow we change. we have high pressure that's kind of crusting over new england. that's keeping leftover moisture from what was julia to our south. we have showers through the midwest and up to the great lakes. we're waiting on this cold front

back across northern maine. that front is going to sag southward during the day tomorrow, and that is going to usher in the cooler air. so there's some changeable weather on the way. let's time it out tomorrow. morning starts with a little bit of sunshine and then the clouds went out. there will be a couple of clouds in central and northern new england. so i can't rule out 1 or 2 clipping places like manchester. but i think that would be isolated. the bulk of the wet weather tomorrow comes in from north to south during the afternoon. we could have a thunderstorm in there. oranges. as this tron comes in -- front comes in, it slides south. let's say 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. from north to south so. so the evening commute tomorrow may be a little bit wet. have a back-up plan in mind or have the umbrella with you as well. the weather app is a great app to have to track this wet weather. here's the map at 10:00 p.m. tomorrow evening. partial clearing is already coming in.

let's look at temperatures now because this will be a change tomorrow, too. a 50s and 60s for the kids at the bus stop, by noon time, we're around 80 degrees so it's going to be another warm one tomorrow. as this front comes in, look what happens. we drop from the 80s to the 70s through the 60s. very quickly as that cooler air comes in. so you will want to have at least the long sleeve or light jacket for the changeable temperatures. high pressure builds right on in after that, though. provides us with a cooler lookses beautiful. sun and clouds. mid-60s on saturday. low 70s on sunday. that crisp air in place. monday morning there could be a touch of patchy frost in some of the typically cooler suburbs. we'll watch that closely. >> danielle, thank you very much. appreciate it. another recall today for our popular brand of ice cream, blue bell is recalling some of its chocolate chip cookie dough because of a possible listeria contamination. last year you might remember

every time a new charter school opens in massachusetts, it takes funding away from regular public schools in that area. this year alone, charter schools will take more than 400 million dollars away from neighborhood public schools. that's not right. instead of draining even more money from neighborhood public schools and giving it to charters, let's devote public resources to all of our students... not just a select few. ools.
