it's overwhelming. i love her so much so i was happy to be here. >> good for her. certainly a lost emotion on the field friday afternoon as a school and community rally around one of their own. in tewksbury, jim smith, wbz this morning. all right. it is 5:15. what a wonderful story. i love that bury burbank. and barry is here to tell us what's going on this weekend. temperatures, bare rest. >> she had a big heavy winter coat on and the hats and gloves and she had snow boots on. i didn't have snow 90 forecast yesterday. it will come soon enough. we're still talking about the drought, obviously. we did get some nice rain last night, it was so nice to hear that rain falling outside. and it's over with now but we still are left with this extreme drought. so we're looking for a lot of rain and the question is when
5:16 am
well, the rain probability over the next several days, there's just a 20% chance this morning of some -- it could be a little spotty mist or sprinkle or two around. and 0% chance. rain tomorrow. 0% chance of rain tomorrow. a 20% chance of rain on wednesday. so that's what we're looking at. certainly going to be drying out this weekend and cooling off, definitely a change in the air mass. that is f yesterday afternoon. these are the current temperatures which are in the 50s. and even 40s in western and northern new england. we have 40s here. we even have a few 30s in south central canada. then we go to the 60s off to the southwest here as you can see. so it is on the warm side off to the south. we've got dew points which have dropped right off. and we've got dry air for the next several days. that's for sure. and we've got 60s off to the south from the mid-atlantic states southward. so let's trek out the day and
5:17 am
day. around 8:00, we'll see breaks in the clouds. i'm not sure if it's going to be that cleared out as much as the model is indicating here. but in any event, it will be clear in parts of the region. but there's going 2:a lot of leftover cloud cover. even if it does break out for a while, more and more clouds will tend to fortunately. there's some moisture left over here that we have to get rid of today. so we'll call it changeable amount of clouds and sunshine. we'll have a mix of clouds and sun the rest of the day. then tonight will clear out cleat e. completely. the temperatures will start falling in the early morning hours. we have 52 in boston. 40s in most all the suburbs. but daybreak we seen have a few 30s out here where there is a frost advisory. but nothing around here. there will be a nippy breeze long the coast tonight. then tomorrow the temperatures go up. even at mid-day we're still in the mid-and upper 50s. we will top out in the afternoon around 3:00, 2:30, 3:00 in the
5:18 am
temperatures. so tomorrow will be a day which will be below average and that is unusual. we haven't had too much of those. the wind is going to be brisk tomorrow out of the northwest. and there will be a few patches of puffy clouds going by in the afternoon as well. all thanks to some high pressure in canada and the cool air on the east side of the high is draining right down in the northeast. so there is a disturbance up here in canada, may send a few clouds down tomorrow afternoon. but the clouds of last night, the rain of last night's offshore and here we tropical storm karl out here with top winds at 65 miles per hour. i'll have more to say about karl in the next half hour. some local events well we have the phantom gourmet today from noon to 4:00. it will be 66 to 68 with a mix of clouds and sunshine there this afternoon. and also tomorrow we've got the walk to end alzheimer's in cambridge starting 10:30. it's going to be about 58 degrees. a little cool tomorrow morning with just mostly sunny and a few

the areas of the northern mountains. and it looks like the color will be coming on quicker now in the next few days as we get deeper into september here. so here's the forecast for the mountains and the lakes for this weekend. it's going to be chilly up there. you'll see quite a bit of sunshine but turning partly cloudy there. only around 55 to the lakes and mountains for average high. up to about 66 to 68 for highs this afternoon aft 82 in boston. clouds giving way to some breaks and splashes and installments of sun sunshine. then tomorrow it's sunny much of the day. a phi afternoon clouds. monday is sunny, a very cold start. 30s and 40s and warming up to 68. then we have the rain late monday night, first thing tuesday morning. then it looks like rather cloudy weather. i'm not certain about next -- end of next week and over next weekend. one model is usually reliable is giving us lots of rain but
5:20 am
that forecast, although as much as we need the rain. >> yeah. >> -- maybe it's a good thing. >> do we want it to flip or flop? >> i haven't decided. but we do need the rain this model is going for a decent amount of rain the end of next week. >> oh boy, 58. that scares me. all right. thank you so much. well it was one of those ideas that sounded great on paper. but coming up, why target now admits kids-sized shopping carts

5:28 am
5:30 am
5:31 am
we started the a's. let's go right to the other end. almost to the other end, anyway. see what's happening in weymouth. 57. so good morning, everybody. let's see what's happening at these two high schools. 55 at the king philip regional high school. down there it's 53 degrees. we're starting out with lots of clouds in many areas. it's clearing out in western mass. there's a trend coming down from northern new england as wel breaking up somewhat to allow the sun to peek on through here. it's definitely on the cool side. it's actually cleared out a little bit around portsmouth, new hampshire. you can see the clearing line, which is coming southward like this, but even though it looks like it clears up this morning, it looks like other clouds may tend to reform during the day. so i can't say that it's going to be nice and sunny all day long. but there goes the rain the last night. so we'll call it, as far as the
5:32 am
are around this morning. sunniest weather is this afternoon. only 68 today. so the air mass has changed. tomorrow it's going to be a chilly one, especially in the morning. the afternoon high only 64. there will be a cold wind tomorrow as well. so probably put a jacket on tomorrow. >> all right. benny. thank you. all right. it is 5:32 now. we're following breaking news out of washington state this morning. ur during a shooting at a mall north of seattle. and now a manhunt is underway for the man who opened fire. police have released this video of the suspect that was taken by surveillance cameras. it shoot -- the shooting began around 7:00 p.m. the shots seemed to be concentrated near the macy's store. >> i heard about one, and then two, and then that's when i turned around and then that's
