suspect investigators say had a knife in her hand. the 46-year-old woman was hit in the stomach area by a shot. >> i came running out and i am like i seen her and she was on the ground her shirt was ripped opened and she had blood all right here. the bullet went in somewhere around here and then it went out the back. >> reporter: police say they got a 911 call from the woman's mother saying her daughter was trying to kill herself with a large knife. in a statement weymouth police said the officer was forced to back away towards the brandishing the knife ignoring his orders to drop the knife. but neighbors have hard questions. >> i just don't understand why it couldn't be diffused and i am emotional because i don't think she should have got shot but i am not in his shoes. >> reporter: this shooting saturday a time when police are under scrutiny in other fatal shooting incidents. one neighbor who didn't want his face shown is outraged. >> i would be in jail right now with cuffs i wouldn't be where

they haven't released the names of the boy or driver but say this appears to be a terrible accident acording to the worcester tell dram he was a kind he garden student. grief counselors will be at his school and another school where his older siblings go to school. a man missing at sea is on his way back. a crew of a freighter found nathan carman 100 miles off martha vineyard's he s he and his mother went fishing off block island previous weekend but never returned. the coast guard suspended the search for them on friday. nathan is expected to arrive onshore tomorrow. campaign 2016 now. the stage is set for the first presidential debate in new york. tonight's showdown between hillary clinton and donald trump could draw the largest television audience for a debate ever. >> both have been busy preparing for this one.

be limited the rest of the week. 50 in boston is the mild spot. same in chatham at 50. but we have got 40s and 30s on the map this morning and 30s are widespread in spots. 31 in plymouth new hampshire with a hard freeze going on. sanford maine at 32. mid-30sin concord new hampshire. 33 in norwood right now. same in taunton. so some patchy areas of frost likely in the spots that dipped down at or below the mid-30s. 40 on the vineyard. 50 on nantucket and most satellite and radar is quiet but as you zoom out we run into clouds. and then you run into showers. so this is is the band of rain that is -- this is the band of rain pushing through the great lakes that's going to cross the region tomorrow. before that aid crisp day today. temperatures -- it's a crisp day today. a little below average. clouds will come in overnight tonight. and rain will arrive after midnight. overnight lows drop back into the 50s.

7 people are recovering this morning after being stabbed in a late night brawl. two of the victims were stabbed in the neck. the fight happened near a bus stop in treemont street in boston theater district. several clubs were early sunday morning when witnesses say between 20 and 30 people started to fight. a tufts parking garage worker saw the whole thing. >> you see fights with the nightclubs but that was pretty wild. it was crazy. there was yelling and i couldn't make out anything. you know. couldn't even tell who was fighting who really. it was just gigantic mess. >> the victims were taken to area hospitals all are expected to survive. so far, police have not made any arrests. a house fire in greenfield

the city's mayor lifting the curfew after protests this weekend remained peaceful. the national guard is still stationed in that city. the sweek end police re-- this weekend police released body and dash cam of the shooting. the death sparked protest last week. tonight the miami marlins will take the field playing in honor of their star pitcher jose fernandez who was killed in boating crash on sunday. he and two of his friends were killed when their boat slammed into a jetty f police are investigating and say speed appears to be a factor in the crash. the team canceled the game on sunday teammates and fans gathered to remember the 24- year-old. david ortiz was a friend of fernandez and reportedly asked the tampa bay rays not to celebrate him but to honor fernandez ortiz emotional during the moment of silence there. he tweeted out i don't have the words to describe the pain i feel for the loss of my friend jose. good-bye my friend.
