. good morning to you. it is 6:00 right now. thanks for joining us. >> it is tuesday september 27th. we're following breaking news right now at 6:00. police on the scene of a deadly shooting in jamaica plains and they need help from first debate is history. so who won, the reaction from the candidates and voters. >> plus the young man rescued from a life raft 100 miles off the massachusetts coast is due to arrive in boston today, but there's new questions about his story. >> and tom brady showing off some skin. >> yeah, we'll have the details on that. but first, the forecast with danielle. make it quick because everyone wants to know what's up with tom brady.

rain pushing through west to east. it's going to be a wet commute in a lot of spots. the back edge is starting to come into western and central massachusetts. so be prepped for a wet commute. there's areas of light rain across northeastern massachusetts, extending back in through southern new hampshire. right along route 89 and back through concord. all the green in eastern massachusetts too. it's rain and light but steady for the most part. southeast part of the state dry for now. but it will be filling in over the next 30 minutes or so. the back edge does connell through 8:00, 8:30. in the city, 10:30. the cape and islands dealing with a few leftover showers. otherwise sunshine north and west of boston, especially with some peeks of produce sky right

that will help boost our temperatures oust of the low 60s to about 68 by mid-day and low 70s with those peeks for the ride home. gloomy for the rest of the week. we'll have the details coming up. >> okay. thank you. live look right now at the expressway. wow. it already looks like a parking lot pretty early on there. you can see lots of back-up. this is by the gas tank. you can expect that slow and go traffic all the way into the tunnel. breaking news overnight, a deadly shooting in jamaica plain for the public's help in this one. the shooting happened just before 1:00 on center street this morning. not far from the jackson square mbta station. a man was shot several times. police are now canvassing that area, talking to witnessing and looking for any surveillance video that might have captured this. if you have any information, you should call boston police inch also this morning, donald trump and hillary clinton go head to head, facing off in the first presidential debate. there were plenty of fireworks

play a major role in in election. the much-anticipated first presidential dee bait is now in the books. drawing in millions of viewers with massachusetts voters taking a hard look at republican nominee donald trump and democrat hillary clinton. >> i have actually gone -- >> rreporter: with vastly different approaches to lead the country, the man who leads the bay state and has been named one ofhe in the country, has held his support close to the vest but still saying he hoped the debate would be about the issues and not the personalities. >> clinton has a very uplifting, you know, hopeful message and trump is just doom and gloom. >> i really think that something that people do like about trump is the way he speaks isn't so polished. >> reporter: at a wash party some students like many other voters have made up their minds. >> i'm not sure that -- my vote

it's going to influence the country's vote. >> reporter: that doesn't appear to be the governor's case who has made it clear he doesn't plan to vote for trump, clinton or a third-party candidate. and leading into this debate, polls have been up and down, many showing a very close race between the two candidates. it will be very interesting to see how this debate impacts thospo what you think about the debate. you can head over to the wbz facebook page and vote there. we'll have some of the results for you at the end of the show. clinton and trump will meet in the second of three dates on october 9th at washington university. just like last night's debate, you can watch it live here. now to a developing story, the suspect in a shooting at a cvs is under arrest and due in court this morning. police say they caught a man

night. he will be arraigned on drug and gun charges this morning. then he will be transferred to stoughton where he is facing multiple charges including attempted murder in the shooting of an 18 year old. that man is expected to recover. police say they will test the weapon to see if it's connected to the shooting. and a mystery at sea deepens this morning as a young man found alone in a life vast about to arrive in boston. anna meiler questions surrounding his rescue. >> reporter: 22-year-old nathan carman is expected to arrive sometime today. and when he arrives, coast guard officials are hoping to get a better idea of what happened to his mother. >> he was found in a life raft with a life jacket on and food and water. >> reporter: nathan carman found alive after seven days stranded

with him. the two left from point jew das rhode island on their 32-foot boat for an overnight fishing trip ten days ago. they ran into trouble one day later somewhere off the tip of long island. >> it was reported that he -- when the boat started taking on water he got his life raft, he went looking for his mom to get in the life raft and conot find her. >> reporter: when the pair didn't return, a family friend reported them missing. >> he was my friend and the world is not right without fishels say it's unlikely linda survived and they won't be assuming her search. >> water temperatures the fact that she was unprotected from the elements. >> reporter: this isn't the family's first tragedy. several years, nathan went missing after his horse died. he turned up days later in virginia. in 2013 his grandfather was shot and killed inside his connecticut home, a crime still unsolved.

route 24. it will continue to slide east, back to marshfield, duck bury in the next 30 minutes or so. by 8:30 coming inside of 495 and eventually 128, few downpours leftover on the came by late morning. there will be one more batch of showers that come over cape cod. and then some breaks in sun, in fact, turning sunny north and west of boston with some breaks at the coastline. so some peeks of sun here or there. that boosts the the today. 70 to 75 for most of us. the clouds will return tonight with a few showers and patches of drizzle. overnight low 59. and look at this, we rise by a couple of degrees tomorrow. that is it. 61 for a high in boston tomorrow. low 60s for many of us. on-shore flow. that's just a start of our kind of dreary pattern here. so this shot of rain comes through this morning, but then there's a big upper level lower, you see that spin in the atmosphere here in central

investigation finds evidence of discrimination and harassment at boston latin school. the investigation found the school violated the civil rights act by mishandling its students' complaints that another student threatened to lynch her with an electrical cord. the investigation found that there were two other troubling incidents. the school's former headmaster calls the investigation purely political and it's why he says he resigned. >> there is no centimeter nation at boston latin s violation on a case that we did handle in which a student was actually punished seemed to me really reaching pretty far. >> officials have agreed to sweeping reforms, including training for students and staff, hiring a new diversity officer and conducting an annual survey of the reh climate. the superintendent says the

facebook page and vote. we'll have the results coming up. a mystery at sea deepens this morning as a young man found alone in a life raft is about to arrive in boston. anna meiler is live in boston with the new questions surrounding his rescue. anna. >> reporter: 22-year-old nathan carman is expected to arrive in boston today board the freighter that found him floating in the middle of the ocean. and when he arrived, coast guard officials are hoping t better idea of what happened to his mother. him and his mother left on an overnight fishing trip ten days ago from point jew das in rhode island. next day their ship sank. coast guard officials say one week later, crew members on board a freighter spied nate than innovating on a life raft with food and water. when his mother wasn't with him and coast guard officials say they will not be resuming their

unprotected from the elements, she had no food and water and there was no other life raft aboard the chicken pox. >> reporter: coast guard officials say there was never any kind of distress call made. nathan is reported to be in good condition, again expected to arrive in boston today. anna meiler, wbz this morning. >> anna, thank you. the suspect in the deadly mall shooting in washington state is now charged with five counts of confessed to those -- cetin con he is fessed to those shootings. cetin is being held on $2 million bond. his family says he has a history ever mental health problems. in houston, police shoot and kill a man randomly firing at drivers around 6:30 yesterday morning. nine people were hurt, one of them is in in critical condition. the suspect was described as a disgruntled lawyer. police say he was wearing military-style apparel. they say he had two weapons and

ammunition. new this morning, the wife of a man killed while being questioned about the boston marathon bombings is now facing charges. she has been charged with making a false statement to the fbi. the indictment accuses can her of lying about a man's whereabouts in the days immediately following a triple murder in waltham back in 2011. one day after she was questioned in 2013, her husband was killed by an fbi agent who a salem man sentenced to live in prison for the murder of an army veteran in boston, he was found guilty last week of shooting and killing stephen perez during a fight back in 2012. during yesterday's sentencing, the victim's family remembered him as a loyal son, brother and friend. braintree's deputy police chief is now on paid leave. the mayor put deputy chief wayne phos on leave yesterday over

. well a surprising find in dorchester. the animal rescue league was called to center street last night to rescue an iguana in a tree. they got the iguana down. it is not clear where it came from. but it spent the night in the warm shelter. imagine like going to shelters, have you seen any iguana anywhere? >> yeah, we found it in a tree. >> that's so funny. go for the iguana. don't have to sit out in the rain. nice warm shelter. i'm glad he was nice and cozy. >> we have rain on the map this morning. it's a wet morning commute in a lot of spots. the temperature right now is right around 60 degrees on average. rain yapping up in manchester. still some light rain in

right now. but one more batch of light showers from orange back down to amherst. you get into eastern massachusetts, you cannot avoid the rain. it's light but it is steady for the most part. that's coming out of a pretty good clip. most of us end up a quarter to half an inch of rain in some locally higher amounts. the steadest amount along route three. this is all going to be filling in on the cape and islands in the next hour or so. so it's a thin band that comes through the back edge, pushing east by 8:8:30 the city of boston. 9:00 a.m. we're drying out. getting breaks of sunshine. by 10:00 a.m., the rain is really confined to the southshore back down to cape cod. there will be some showers that linger until about mid-day to early afternoon on the outer cape of nantucket, especially. then we do see some breaking of the cloud cover. turns into a nice afternoon north and west of boston. some stubborn clouds linger a little bit longer. i do anticipate some peeks of

so where the sun breaks, we come in the 70s. 70 to 75 degrees today. that's actually slightly above average for this time of the year. the clouds do return tonight, the shower or 2, 59 for an overnight low, most of us in the 50s. tomorrow look at this, we don't rebound very much at all. kind of a dreary pattern for the middle and end of the week. clouds, showers, patchy drizzle, 62 for a high tomorrow. that's it. that wind off the ocean. 10 to 20 miles per hour from the northeast. that persistent o see that spin in the atmosphere, that low is going to dive southward, kind of stall out here and keep us in this blocked pattern of moisture coming in off the ocean. so tomorrow what does that mean for us? a shower or two, patchy drizzle. not a washout by any means. a lot of clouds around for thursday. perhaps a light shower or two. have the umbrella on standby. you may not need one. just pop up the hood for some of

from derby street to the split. tough right coming north and south. breaking overnight, a deadly shooting in jamaica plain. right now police are asking for the public's help. the shooting happened around 1:00 a.m. on center street, not far from the jackson square mbta station. a man in his 40s was shot several times. police are canvassing the area, talking to witnesses and looking for any surveillance video. they're asking anyone with information to come forward. 6:48 right now. the suspect in a shooting at a cvs is under arrest and due in court this morning enter police say they caught a man with a loaded gun in boston last night. he will be arraigned on drug and gun charges in roxbury this morning. then he will be transferred to stoughton where he's facing multiple charges in the shooting of an 18 year old inside a cvs. that shooting happened last week. the man who was shot is expected to recover. a young man found alone in a life raft will be questioned by the coast guard when he arrives
