grandfather's murder but prosecutors said there was not enough information to sign it. a 2-year-old is in the hospital this after police say she was run over by her 7-year-old sister. nicole jacobs is live outside boston's children's hospital where that little girl is being treated this morning. nicole. >> reporter: kate, that little girl is going to be okay. but many are questioning why the 7-year-old was handed the car keys in the first place. this is where it happened. >> i hav on the line? >> yes. >> reporter: a 911 call from south policy street. >> the call states her 7-year-old dorks i believe, ran over her 2-year-old daughter with a vehicle. >> reporter: with this green ford focus, according to salem new hampshire authorities, the child was allowed to go outside and start the car on her own. something they believe she's done before with the 2-year-old unknowingly following behind. the 7 year old somehow put the car in reverse. >> that's unacceptable. you know what i mean, the
6:05 am
>> reporter: it was early evening tuesday, these young girls saw the whole thing. >> i saw the baby trying to open the door and it wasn't opening so she's going behind the car and the car was going back and it hit her, and she got hurt really bad. >> reporter: leaving the toddler with a broken bone and ribs and numerous cuts and bruises. she was med flighted to boston while some neighbors are shaking their heads. >> which makes this even probably a little bit more frightening, it w preventible. >> the child is expected to survive but it's the possible charges for mom that could be next. >> reporter: salem authorities say they could seek child endangerment charges against that mother. we're live in boston, nicole jacobs, wbz this morning. >> thank you very much. this morning, burlington high's varsity football coach is on paid leave. the school says it's investigating claims of verbal misconduct by shawn ma guy. not physical abuse.

6:07 am
massachusetts public charter schools have provided an option for families dissatisfied with the conventional unionized public schools. thousands are on the waiting list to get into them. but the teacher unions and their allies see charters as a threat and they're pouring millions into a campaign to stop question 2 which would allow the state to authorize up to 12 new charter schools each year. but the wbz umass amherst poll says 700 likely voters found near majority support for lifting the current number of charters. 49% for yes on question 2 39% oppose. 22% undecided. that's good news for a procharter campaign that also enjoyed extensive financial backing. but a closer look inside the poll suggests the final outcome may well be linked to voter turnout in this presidential election year. a yes vote on question 2 okaying more charter schools draws some of its strongest support in the
6:08 am
from age -- the prime dem graph i can. and from independents who are the largest block of registered voters. the the strongest opposition to charter expansion comes from liberals with 64% opposed and democrats with 49% voting no. now activists and partisans tend to be reliable voters and the polls suggest a strong democratic turnout could at least erode that procharter edge turnouts across the spectrum. so stay tuned, kate, this is going to be some battle. >> reporter: john, you'll be back tomorrow morning with the results from this exclusive poll, is that right? >> yeah, tomorrow get ready for this. this -- i think it's going to be a great interest, to a lot of our viewers. first of all, we polled governor charlie baker's particularity. he's been riding high since he
