. >> breaking news at 5:30. federal investigators getting to work trying to figure out why a train at full speed crashed into a new jersey station. one person is i'm paula ebben. >> i'm liam martin. lisa joins us live -- louisa joins us live from hoboken. >> reporter: the ntsb should be briefing us pretty shortly. in the meantime, you can see the rings of law enforcement and investigators here outside this historic station. thousands of commuters come through this terminal every day, and they are trying to

train to barrel into the new jersey transit terminal at a speed much faster than it should have been. around 9:00 this morning, the nj train pulled into the hoboken terminal and did not stop. blowing through a barrier and into a wall bringing down part of a roof of the terminal and live wires. passengers worked with first responders to pull people from the twisted metal, a very chaotic scene. governors chris christ jersey and governor cuomo of new york briefed the media today and said it was too soon to speculate what happened. of course that's what investigators are going to be briefing us on and looking into, in the next few hours. we do know the operator of that train is in critical condition but is reportedly speaking with investigators. we also know at this point that engineers are looking at the structural integrity of part of that terminal because the

should have been able to tell about the sexual history. a man accidentally shot and killed during a s.w.a.t. team drug raid's family is getting a settlement. back in 2011, he was shot in the head while lying on the floor with his hands up as officers executed a search warrant. his stepson was the actual target of the warrant. the family su violating his civil rights and just settled the case. >> it appears a member of the new england mafia would plead guilty to obstruction of justice. robert deluca is accused of lying to investigators looking into the 1993 murder into the boston nightclub owner. his remains were found in march. former mob boss frank salemme pleaded guilty to that murder.

this surveillance video will help them catch a thief. a burglar broke into a home, stole a gaming console, and based on his actions there, it appears the man knew where the cameras were. so he might have been in that home before as you see him covering his face. right now, we go to new jersey where the ntsb arrived and giving an update on the accident this morning. >> once that is done, then we will be able to cars. we will continue that investigative process in that aspect. we can currently access the locomotive, which is at the end of this train and we'll be pulling the event recorder this evening. from the event recorder, we hope to get information such as speed and braking. we know that there were three passenger cars and a locomotive in a push/pull configuration.

called the controlling car. we also know the train had outward facing video recorders on both ends of the train, and we also will be recovering both of those. are the ntsb will determine the probable cause of the accident and issue a report of those determinations. the investigator in charge i have with me here today, and his name is mr. ji with the ntsb and over 35 years of experience with railways operations. he is leading a multi- displainary group of experts, and they will be examining the following areas. untiles, survival and track

east. a whole other deck of clouds is moving right in here friday saturday and sunday and monday. we need it big time so this will be a big one for us. breezy, very cool temperatures in the upper 40s to low 50s. you notice the cloud deck moving in as we hod through the overnight. tomorrow morning, i think the rain will also be especially toward the cape, the south coast and island commute and the rain will spread northward and it can be rather dreary, breezy and cool. and heavy rainfall, and it still looks like saturday will be the wettest day of the stretch. lingering clouds will be here on sunday. gray skies will dominate over the next few days. tomorrow's highs again in the 50s to low 06s across the area. no -- low 60s across the area.

bush. temperatures aren't changing and so there's not a lot to lee lab rate on. this weekend, areas of rainfall, breezy, 50s. sunday it's cloudy, a few showers and low 60s. right now, it doesn't look like sunday will be a washout day. high temps, 58, 57 degrees to 65 across into the middle of next week. no really warm days and no cold days going to be expected any time soon. if you are heading up toward the white mountains, expect bouts of rain and showers moving through. i don't think either saturday or sunday will be raining the teen tire time. it will be cool and rather gray. checking out the foliage, good color around the white and green add adirondacks. september has been a really warm month. we haven't had many cold nights, only a few. that makes the season move

here comes hurricane matthew. where will matthew head. we'll have a good idea where this will go. close to jamaica turning north and come up across cuba, the eastern tip of it as we head toward monday and the bahamas. the bottom line is we continue to watch it and there is a chance that you could come up the eastern seaboard. it's not even on the seven-day forecast. so a long time to watch. otherwise, a along the healthwatch, no rest for the weary. the new study finds the majority of the people around the world say they need more rest. i think we can all agree with that. dr. mallika marshall has the details. >> i need more rest, you need more rest. there's little doubt that people are busier than ever. according to a new worldwide survey, more than two-thirds

structural issues with this historic station behind me because part of the canopy collapsed on top. train. federal investigators are trying to get in there to get a data recorder. that records how fast the train was moving and how much it was braking. cell phone video shows a scene of chaos. moments after a new jersey transit train went plowing into the busy hoboken terminal just before 9:00 this morning. >> the lights went off and people started screaming. like, it wasn't a jolt. it was like completely thrown from one area to the next. >> i observed it coming at a high rate of speed. it went over the bumper block, basically through the air and traveled another 40 feet and came to a rest. >> reporter: it barreled through the barrier and left a

parts of the ceiling of the terminal collapsing as a result. >> there were folks hobbling around, people holding their limbs, holding their backs and things like that. it was definitely some bad injuries. >> blood kind of like around their faces. people were, like, holding onto each other. >> we have no indication that this is anything other than a tragic accident. >> reporter: one woman standing on the platform was killed, new jersey reporters. christie and cuomo commended people for helping first respondersp. >> we're not going to speculate about the cause of the accident. >> reporter: the train operator is said to be in critical condition but cooperating with investigators. there is also video footage that may have been captured.
